It was touch Rugby. You're supposed to stop when touched not pancake the opposition I like Boris though, he gives it a go and puts himself in situations where he knows he might end up looking silly but does it anyway, which many politicians avoid.

I don't think you can underestimate how much the need to for Britain to pay off massive war debts affected levels of investment in new models and modernised production. There was also a feeling that we were owed something after six years of hardship and having won WW2. which of coursed the Germans and Japanese didn't have. The wealth of the Americans during the 1950s and 1960s was largely due to a lack of manufacturing competition and it took 50 years for that to fully unwind.

A few still try. Manchester Grammar school has gradually built up an endowment that lets them offer the high standards whilst prioritising kids from poor backgrounds. Its an exception though.

I went to KES when it was a Grammar school, just before it turned private. It was a good education, if pretty old fashioned with lots of rote learning. I'm not sure though how much of the improved standard was due to the fact of being selective and how much was to do with the increased funding they got, some 30% more than secondary moderns. I understand the argument against selectivity, that it consigns 90% of pupils at an early age to the idea that they aren't good enough based on one exam on one day. My son's comprehensive school streams based on ability so it isn't that different. Maybe if they were given the same resources as the grammars used to get they would achieve the same results. The biggest problem is oversizing classes. 24 to a class instead of 32 would transform things.

My daughter is 10 too and my son 12, so sounds perfect, thanks. I've left it a bit late for this half term so will probably look to go next spring. Ive been to Sorrento and Capri but never made it round to Almalfi coast stretch so its definitely on the list. Taormina in Sicily is great too - especially if you want something a bit further south and warmer out of high season.

That article was written in 2007 and was referring to when he started out his coaching career in 1994 so no more relevant to him than any junior coach. Why ignore the fact that he managed at Bolton, went back to Liverpool as Assistant Manager and was trusted enough to be caretaker manager there? I dont get the point of putting down a part of the club's recent success without any kind of reason. Weird huh?

Well done Saints. You haven't even waited a decent time to see if there is a letter. They are unlikely to make a refund without any written confirmation of it. That said , when I moved to MoreThan this year Aviva came round and gave me the bumps as a thank you and goodbye.

How old are your kids Johnny? Ive been thinking about taking mine but wasn't sure they were old enough to appreciate it. The other option is going to Sicily seeing the mummies and climbing Etna.

Is that the one using a sweaty hand?

Several different US friends have said soccer is already the preferred curriculum sport in smaller schools and colleges. Its easier to organise and coach for and requires less equipment.

No-one good is going to want the Dutch job now - out of Europe and nothing to look forward to. I imagine they'll keep Blind on until next Summer and appoint someone new then to take over for the WC qualification.

A friend of mine used to run the bodyshop at Fords Dagenham in the 1980s. He got hauled in by Ford US senior management one day demanding to know why his line was less productive than Genk in Belgium. He gently reminded them that Genk was fully re-engineered three years previously and then pointed out of the office window to his presses stamped with date '1929'.

Agree with all of that. Must be a first on the EU thread.
-
Its a nice idea but I don't think there would be much support for it elsewhere. Most countries are overall content with EU. They might chafe about a few things but wouldn't leave.

I thought he usually had a bell?

Hard to know if that will ever get signed, and if it does what will be dropped along the way.

the EU has steadfastly refused to negotiate with Bern, insisting that free movement is part of a package deal also granting Switzerland preferential access to the single market,
-
Big difference is Switzerland has a bigger trade deficit with the EU than the UK does. Its helped them this much. 0.

Im pretty sure we'd be able to bully the US too.
