Why do people get 'jumped upon' every time they ask a question that "doesn't matter"? As we're a random collection of molecules hurtling through the universe at over 47 mph, you'll find that nothing actually matters. Not one thing. Thus, I hereby declare that ALL questions are banned on the basis that life itself is irrelevent. Ok? Bugger...broken the rule already. That's well and truely buggered up the space time continuum. Thinking out loud, why haven't the Football League intervened in the Sol Campbell purchase by Notts County? We know from bitter recent experience that they come down on clubs like a ton of bricks when, in the Football League's view, the club has sought a competitive advantage by 'overspending' on players (for example) - i.e. they dock them points if they then can't afford to pay the bills at some point in the future. If the Football League was genuinely interested in preserving the integrity of their Leagues by clobbering clubs that overspend why do they seemingly turn a blind eye to clubs, like Notts County, who are sowing the seeds of such an eventuality? In other words, why do the Football League operate in an 'after the horse has bolted' fashion rather than instigate a pre-emptive system that prevents clubs putting themselves in potential jeopardy in the first place? This is a semi-rhetorical question really, as no doubt their hands are tied by some European freedom of business law or such like - "innocent until proven guilty" and all that - but to preside over a club setting itself up for a big fall seems somewhat at odds with their overall 'financial prudence' policy....no?

My Uncle's a part time 'freelance' scout (West Ham and Burnley in recent years) but tends to get attached exclusively to one club at a time. But I doubt he would show up on your average club supporter's radar so I'm assuming this is how it 'worked' at St Mary's - i.e. one named chief scout with unnamed scouts working for/with him on a 'supply and demand' basis

It could be that our scouting set up was "ok" up until administration and that the state of 'disarray' has happened very quickly as a result of administration? I've no idea how good our set up was, say, this time last season? In other words, was it Lowe & Co that wound down the scouting operation over a period of time or was it given the chop by the administrator in April?

Jeffers transfer-listed by Owls Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws has placed former England striker Francis Jeffers on the transfer list. Jeffers, 29, was sent off for a head-butt during his side's 2-0 Carling Cup defeat by Port Vale on Tuesday. Laws told the club website: "His conduct was totally unacceptable and something this club will not tolerate. "We have therefore enforced the heaviest punishment available with immediate effect and transfer listed the player."
