Its not merely "tiredness", as Koeman says he has been playing for a long time with small niggles, which if we had a bigger squad he would have been given time to get over it. Its all now catching up with him and making him fatigued.
-
It still appeared Saints are interested, Koeman said similar things about Alderweireld before they signed him. If Sneijder doesn't get an offer from a huge club in January, perhaps he'd be willing to compromise on wages to play in the Premier League with us.

On what is any of that based?

Saints took 22 players north both Burnley and Sheff Utd game and stayed over the weekend. Included in that 22 players squad is... Tadic - Koeman said was not fit S.Davis - injured Pelle - suspended Hesketh - injured That leaves Saints with 18 players in the travelling party and I guess they haven't bothered naming Cody Cropper as another keeper sub along with Kelvin Davis, so down to 17 players.
-
What is better for the development of a young keeper...? a) sitting on the bench every first team league and cup game, like Kelvin Davis has this season. b) sitting in the stands every first team league and cup game as the 20th man of the match day squad, like Coddy Cropper. c) getting gametime for the under 21's, like Paulo Gazzaniga has been. I wouldn't be sure enough to say Gazzaniga playing for the under 21's means he is behind Davis and Cropper, it is beneficial for him to be playing games, which is not something Cropper and Davis are getting. If Forster gets injured/suspended perhaps Koeman would prefer a keeper who has been getting gametime to play and Gazzaniga might be used.
-
He now appears to be behind Davis in the pecking order. But is he behind Cropper just because Cropper is the 3rd keeper on 1st team match days? That was the point I was responding to. Cropper and Davis aren't getting any gametime (which is particularly notable for Cropper for his development), where as Gazzaniga is by playing for the under 21's.
-
- Gazzaniga has been getting game time for the under 21's. - Cropper goes to first team games home and away just in case Davis/Forster are injured, but doesn't get any game time. Its therefore debatable which of the two is favoured. I'd still suggest it is Gazzaniga as he is getting matches to aid his development, Cropper isn't as he is often an unused man of a 20 man Saints match day squad and is only there in case of a rare emergancy.

Michael Oliver is now the ref.

"yes it is"... what? What are you suggesting I've said that is wrong?

If the winners of the League Cup qualify for Europe through another route then the League Cup's European place goes to the Premier League, not the runner up of the League Cup. Man City for example won the League Cup last season, the European place didn't go to runner up Sunderland, it went back to the Premier League table. It is the FA Cup where the runner up gets into Europe if the winner has qualified another way, like how Saints did in 2003.

Schneiderlin travelled with the squad yesterday and Koeman said he could play against Sheff Utd.
-
Even if United win tonight that doesn't mean you were right. No away wins in other Premier League games this weekend is completely irrelevant to what happens at St Mary's tonight.

FA Cup 3rd Round - Ipswich (H) - £10 tickets
Matthew Le God replied to Wiggles31's topic in The Saints
The same as every cup draw... the worst team left in the competition at St Mary's to give Saints the best possible chance of winning the competition. -
I don't see why if central midfielders are injured there is a need to switch from one system that needs 3 central midfielders to another system that also needs 3 central midfielders. How is that a solution to a problem of a reduction in central midfielders available?
-
I'd rather have... Clyne Fonte Alderweireld Bertrand over... Valencia Smalling Rojo Young Its not really even a contest as to which is better defensively and actually offensively as Valencia and Young aren't even particularly great going forward compared to Clyne and Bertrand.
-
Their defence tonight vs Stoke City is... Valencia Smalling Rojo Young ...that wouldn't fill me will confidence. Two wingers shoehorned to play fullback plus Chris Smalling who is out of his depth at Man Utd. If Smalling was at a mid table club I'd doubt he'd get remotely near the England squad, he is a disaster waiting to happen in every game as he is very limited technically.

Southampton U21 vs. Manchester United U21 Streaming tonight
Matthew Le God replied to ART's topic in The Saints
Well they won't start, but that is not a surprise as neither of them has started a Premier League game before. Doesn't mean they won't be on the bench and potentially come on as a sub though, which is "playing". -
Southampton U21 vs. Manchester United U21 Streaming tonight
Matthew Le God replied to ART's topic in The Saints
Why would that mean they won't be traveling with the first team squad vs Arsenal? Reed and Targett aren't starters for the first team, but if they didn't play for the under 21's they'd have very little in the way of competitive football to help their development. Saints have used a number of youngsters over the years in the under 21 games and also had them travelling and in the match day squad for the first team. Reed and Targett have done just this on a number of occasions already this season. -
Although there is a benefit to that as he is injured anyway for the Arsenal game, there is also a negative in that it adds to his total and moves him closer to the 10 yellow card total which would see him suspended for 2 games.

"Morgan blames Chambers" Is a very misleading thread title! ART, how have you managed to twist that into the thread title "Morgan blames Chambers"? Those quotes do no such thing, Schneiderlin doesn't personally blame Chambers.
