Liverpool v Saints starting lineup...
Matthew Le God replied to Unbelievable Jeff's topic in The Saints
Because if Forster decides to join for £7-9m and big wages he's unlikely to sit on the bench. What it would do is provide genuine competition for the keeper spot, with both Boruc and Forster knowing they can't be complacent and if they lose form they'd be replaced by the other in the starting line-up. Something that is unlikely to happen at the moment with Boruc as there is a big drop in quality to Davis/Gazzaniga. -
CONFIRMED - Steven Caulker - DONE DEAL (loan)

How many more times do we need to go through this? Shaw, Lallana, Lambert (and it looks like Lovren) have all gone to 2 of the biggest clubs in World football; a better chance of Champions League games and a wage increase. That is why they left. -
Are they? There is a huge gulf in quality between Boruc and his current replacements Gazzaniga/Davis. Forster and Boruc fighting it out gives us better squad depth in that position than ever before.

Although it would be nice to send him a message, putting him "in the reserves" is like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
-
They are only guessing and the article explains how they don't actually know the reason for certain why he has left... http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/manchester-united-transfers-stefan-de-7472751 Plus it is talking about de Vrij and Hummels. Would they want to buy both? If not, its likely Hummels will be their first choice.
-
We do need another keeper, but as we already have one that is more than capable at Premier League level there is no need to rush negotiations and pay more if we don't need to. Sends out a bad message if we overpay to rush deals through. He was 3rd choice at the World Cup.
-
As we already have Boruc, there is no rush to sign Forster, so it makes complete sense to negotiate the price as low as possible on Saints side rather than just give in and send out a message to other clubs we want to buy players from that we give in easily in transfer talks. Signing Forster is to put pressure on Boruc that he doesn't get from Davis/Gazzaniga. If he signs Forster would likely be first choice, but Boruc as back-up/cup game keeper is a big improvement in depth for that position and Forster would know any loss of form and Boruc would be in the team. Thats a better situation that last season as it would give the squad more depth in a position.

English Premier League side Southampton have launched a bid to buy Celtic's Fraser Forster, but their £7.5m valuation of the goalkeeper is not enough for the Scottish champions who value him at £9m. (Scottish Sun: print edition)

So that isn't "at the moment" then. Lovren won't leave if we don't get an acceptable bid and so far we haven't. If/when he does leave do you honestly believe we won't sign a replacement? -

You say "at the moment", but Saints haven't sold Lovren or accepted a bid for him and he is still a Saints player. So I'd prefer Lovren and Fonte over Caulker and Ferdinand. -
They are on a XXXXXL shirt... TractorSaint @TractorSaint · Jul 19 My word. Usually an xxl but the #saintsfc shirt is a 5xl!! Is this in preparation for @Veho bringing out a techie diet pill?!
-
Utter nonsense, I've never said that. You've made it up.
-
Exactly, but only if the club recruits their replacements well and invests the money back into the team. Heisenberg >>> Glasgow_Saint

Posting pictures of commissioned stadium design and training ground updates is not in itself evidence of me being "convinced" we could challenge for the Champions League. You are jumping to the conclusions you want there to be from that. As I said before... twisting, taking out of context and exaggerating.
-
When you claim I said things like this it hard to have a discussion with you. Like with Batman you are twisting, taking out of context and exgarerating what I've previously said and seemingly convinced yourselves I actually said it like you now claim.
-
Did I? I don't remember being "convinced", I think you are twisting my words somewhat out of context.
-
Its a combination of factors... a big pay rise, playing for one of the biggest clubs in World football and Champions League football. Really not sure why you keep using it time after time as a stick to beat Saints with.

Crafty edit Mr Bewildered!

Sinisa Mihajlovic is their manager.
-
Its not complicated, we had a number of players good enough for the clubs that came above us in the table last season and the players want the larger wages on offer and better chance of Champions League football. Saints don't want unhappy players at the club and have negotiated some large transfer fees for them.
-
Then why are you the top poster with 171 posts in it which are largely moaning about the club rather than rumours?
-
I'm lost as to the relevance of that in the context of what I said. That image was publicly revealed after Markus Liebherr died and may even have been commissioned after he died. The training ground plans certainly were significantly upgraded in scale and size after he died.
-
So if Markus was still alive and Cortese was still at the club, do you honestly think if Man Utd and Liverpool came in for our players with £30m/£25m/£20m offers and offering them £100k p/w wages we'd keep them? Saints can't offer players the wages and level of football they'd get at some of the biggest clubs in world football.
