Welling isn't that far from Southend, so it is possible he was in Southend 2 hours ago and joined up with Saints at Welling. But would be an odd build up for a game to be away from the squad, would Southend be watching him play tonight before rubber stamping the deal?
He is in Welling playing for Saints tonight...
Southampton FC @SouthamptonFC 31s
#SaintsFC XI team versus @wellingunited: Cropper, Young, Mugabi, McCarthy, Targett, Curtis, Moore, De Ridder, Sinclair, Lee, Forte.
As the media team and 1st team manager have offices at the stadium, their presence at their place of work doesn't necessarily mean anything significant.
Still a month of the transfer window left for Saints to sign a striker, lots of indicators that is a position they are looking to invest in heavily. Its not like we desperately need one for the opening game, would you not be happy with Lambert playing vs West Brom?
Not sure why I bother asking as I'm expecting another WUM response.
Did he? The season before he joined Saints he scored 29 league goals for a team that came 11th in League 1. The next season under Pardew he scored 30 goals for a team that finished 7th in League 1 (5th in terms of points earnt).
He didn't. The 3 North East friendlies was solely under 21's players and the Eastleigh game had Forte, Sharp, Tadanari Lee, De Ridder, Martin, Barnard but not Hammond.

Glasgow_Saint, are you the missing source?
Of course they could feasibly play 45 minutes tonight, but in modern sport it would be highly unusual for a sportsman to go from starting full training after a break to playing in a match within days.
Why? They have only been in full training for a couple of days after extended breaks.
The rest of the squad have had 4 weeks of training and tactical work in build up to this game.
