Your argument makes the whole idea of competition outside the Prem meaningless. The be all and end all being in the Premiership! I really wanted Saints to be champions. I think we have one less league titles( Just the one in 1960) than almost any of the other current 92 league clubs. Surely the whole point of entering any competition is to win it, or it always used to be. I'm sure in the EPL Arsenal, Chelsea etc wont be comforting themselves with the worthlessness of winning the title, just becuase they all get a slot in the Champions league next season!

The Yanks ( owners/ shareholders whatever) would lose money, they have actually ploughed ("Invested") 140 mil of their own money into this pit. Something that doesnt even seem to register with the scousers, who were even blaming the Royal Bank of Scotland for lending them the money in the first place. Apart from Sturrock, struggling to think of another Saints manager winning his first match in charge going back nearly 40 years to when McMenemy took charge(and I'm pretty sure he didn't win his first, I'm sure we were about 5th when he took over in December 1973 and ended up relegated)
