Slightly off topic I know, anyone else read Germaine Greers column in yesterdays London Evening Standard where it is questioned why anyone would want to lay down the best part of a million quid to buy a flat in such a godforsaken place as portsmouth. The article goes on to quote the time a minister compared an Iraqi city to Southampton only to be corrected by a soldier who said "theres no beer no prostitutes and people are shooting at us. its more like Portsmouth"

I thought were now supposed to be self financing, so I would say it does matter as whatever comes in would be available for reinvestment in the team!

Why all this talk about AFC Southampton, if Saints have been liquidated surely the title Southampton FC is available?

I visited Southampton yesterday for only about the third time in the last five years, and I was amazed at the decline in the place - I was quite upset to see just how trashy and chav it is becoming (bit like pompey really). Boaded up shops , shops that were upmarket replaced by cheap shops and markets - could be the recession I suppose, but I cant say I have noticed any where else I occasionally visit (including pompey) declining on this scale.

Everybody talks about QPR being one of the richest teams in the world, I don't see it. Just because a club have rich owners does not make the club rich, unless those owners intend to splash the cash like Man City's. On this scale of measurement Cheltenham Town would be one of the richest in league 1 - just relegated to Lg 2!!
