What should happen now? The PL to require all clubs as a condition of membership to reduce all ticket prices by 20% across the board for season 2013/14 and by a further 20% the following season. This would recycle some of the TV money to the ordinary punters who do so much to make the 'British' game what it is and to widen access to what is increasingly an entertainment for the well to do, more so in that home and pub subscriptions will have to raise sharply to pay for it all, and it wouldn't weaken the relative status between different clubs (domestically) if it was applied unilaterally. The PL also needs to find a mechanism (prize money?) to re-cycle some of the money into Divs 2, 3 and 4 which produce some of their players and provide the foundations and culture on which their 'greatest league in the world' is built. What will happen? None of the above. Clubs will be given the lot and will spend the lot on players and agents who will see their already obscene salaries inflated further which will in turn provide further disconeect/disenchantment between the game and the fans. The bubble may not have burst yet but all bubbles do burst eventually.

I we were playing tomorrow. KD FR JF JH DF JC MS GDe RL AL JR That'll do (depending who we are playing), probably good enough to stay up. If we are playing hard ball we can do better at GK, RB, CB, LB, holding Mid, RM. What wedge have we got left? Interesting times.......

That's a helluva statement: 'Newly promoted Saints start with record £6m signing on the bench'.
-
Who was the last genuine box-to-box midfielder we employed? Jimmy Case? In that case a) they are quite rare, or b) we've rubbed along without one for quite some time? Sign him up! (Did anybody else think Grant Leadbitter, Ipswich, looked good at SMS?)

Bet they were wearing mini-skirts too?

Summer 2012 HCDAJFU Thread - Premier League Special Edition
sandwichsaint replied to Jimmy_D's topic in The Saints
Out: Lee Barnard to Watford £700,000 .............. possible at 300k Jason Puncheon to Birmingham £1 million .......no way will Brum be spending 1m on anyone Dan Seabourne to Charlton £400,000.......... plausible move but sounds a lot of money (?) for someone of DS's experience Ryan Dickson to Leeds £200,000............. doubt it, Colin be wheeler dealing at a much more experienced level. Col U with Lloyd James would be more his level. -
I have 2 tickets, row 9 in the stalls for Elvis Costello at the Albert Hall this Thursday for the 'Revolver' tour. They were an Xmas present and I would love to go but unfortunately due to personal circustances can no longer make it. Can anybody use these at short notice? I can post out first class today or tomorrow. Face value is c£75 the pair, I don't want anything for them but I would like a reasonable donation (£20-plus) to a charity of my choice (will confirm the charity if anybody wants them).

MPZ? Small prize available. -
LOL, Interviewer: you are 18, you have played 26 times for Arsenal's first team this season, you have done really well in the Champions Lge and the PL, you are financially secure for life (as is your skate father) and you have just made the full England squad for Euro 2012. Don't you sometimes think you should have played another 40 games for Southampton? AOC: Err, not really, no. Alternative ending - Interviewer to AOC 'Where did it all go wrong?'

Maybe they'll need a record of our past games if we get to the final of the Texaco Cup or the Watney's Cup? I did LOL at someone on the ST thread who said they would make up their mind whether to get a ST 'once the club releases details of away tkt allocations for next year'. At the moment the ticket office struggles to release this information accurately on a game-by-game or a week-by-week basis; the chances that they will release this information before the season starts, and then stick consistently to what they say, are somewhere less than zero.

Anyone know anything about putting up a new light?

There's a light that never goes on... -
Totally agree, can't wait to be wallet raped myself. Those of us who've seen 15-20 games a season home and away for the last 7 years should feel privileged to pay the JCL Prem Lge prices next year. As Bob Marley nearly sang: No ST, no cry.

Walking out of Notts Forest and absolutely lording it over the former European Cup winners. One big club and one middle size club and one on an unstoppable upward curve. Nice.

I'm not sure Wotton took 'the easy way out'? His first touch and his positional play were so poor he often took the only way out! He was a player of his times, Lge one and his legs had gone, right signing, wrong player! I loved his commitment (Southend away, Watford away, JPT final etc), I enjoyed the journey, I'm sure he did too, I wonder if he still worries about us as much as we still worry about him?

A steward told me we were going to have 'greener grass' next season, and he's been right more often than some on here.

Well reminded ... this game was the re-arranged one from the death of Markus earlier in the season?
-
I was there, problem was we just weren't 'Saints fit' in those days; Lambert clearly wasn't fit and we were pretty pedestrian everywhere that night. Seems crazy looking back .... 1500 fans away midweek in Lge one when we were off the back of a pretty ropey start to the season.

What a season! Countless professional performances, and that's what many of them were, 'performances' rather than out-and-out thrilling games, though we still played plenty of good stuff as well. I saw about 15 games and can't remember seeing a bad one, I saw lots of good ones, lots of perfromances, and when we didn't hit the heights we usually ground out something. I only saw us lose twice all season, Palace in the Lge Cup and Middlesborough away right at the end. Best games? Ipswich away is head and shoulders above anything else, West Ham away was a 'big game', Pompey home was a great game and a great occaision (tho not a great result!), I also thought P'boro away was entertaining and a great come back by the team from the disappointment of Reading; I also enjoyed Forest away massively. Dellhurst 2 was also a very solid performance from the team, great numbers but not sure it quite hit the heights off the pitch in the way that we thought it might. I saw routine home wins against Brum and Doncaster and Palace, a very determined effort against Hull who on the day were maybe the best 'team' I saw in the league(?), an interesting and tight duel with Cardiff at home, and a slightly below par effort against Ipswich at home (how we missed Lee as an option from the bench in the run-in). Reading looked good at their place but we scrapped a tough point and I had them down for second (!) from there on in, Derby away was similar as we scrapped a decent point, Palace in the League Cup it was good to see the youngsters and the strength of our support, awesome effort; and with the bonus ball of Coventry at home to come I wasn't too deflated by the reult at the Riverside as the travelling away support again showed itself in fine numbers. A terrific season to be a Saints fan; real value-for-money stuff and so good to see a bunch of players who really do look as though they are as proud to wear the shirt as we are! COYRs!

Where do you predict we'll finish next season?
sandwichsaint replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
Saints to finish above Newcastle? I'll give you 5-1. -

None, HTH. -
Does that mean that 90% are doing it right or 10% are doing it wrong? I think we should be told.

Not really, I'm surprised that you're surprised that anything online to do with SFC is Bob-a-job standard.
