    Toby

    He's not a Saints fan.
  2. Aha another hick seaside town like Boscombe:lol:. Actually, much like Southampton, not "by the sea" at all, but a major port city with a waterfront based on an estuary/drowned river valley/ria.

But Ted knew Micky Channon was coming through and Chivers would not be greatly missed, he was already playing second fiddle to Big Ron. He was successful at Spuds eventually but actually won very little despite leaving for a "bigger club" (UEFA Cup and 2 League Cups). Have his autograph which I got at Highbury when he sat almost next to us when he was recovering from his broken leg.
  4. Think its more to do with appointing young English coaches who have recently been international players. None of the above were really failures, they were all inexperienced and like almost all coaches paid the price for lack of out and out success within a couple of seasons. Not many coaches get the opportunity to develop for longer than that these days. Southgate was not even a qualified coach when he was appointed manager of Middlesbrough and did very well for them in his first season in charge, despite a shaky start. 2nd season they were relegated after a good start and an appalling run, and third season he had them 4th in the Championship before Steve Gibson pulled the trigger, probably rather prematurely. Bit harsh really to call him a failed club manager. Gary White will probably be next U21 coach.
  5. Well, shows how wrong you can be, doesn't it. The city is not by the sea. If you want to be geographically accurate, Southampton Water is a drowned valley, or ria formed by the Rivers Test, Itchen and Hamble that flow into it.
  6. Thought it was very strange when I read it. There are 2 things wrong with referring to Southampton as a "seaside town". (1) It's not a town, (2) it's not by the sea side. Think those down the road will be laughing thinking of us being referred to as a seaside town. If you want a seaside town, think Boscombe.
  7. It could do with elict of paint.
  8. Could do worse, local Hampshire player, will add to our Home Grown roster, would do well if we played at Mansfield Park. On the negative side, even older than Kelvin and hasn't been credited with an assist for a few years.
  9. New design revealed by council http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-33187732 Apparently Portsmouth's Liberal Democrat opposition said the saga had made the city the "laughing stock of the country". I've got news for the Pompey Lib Dems, your city was already a laughing stock due to your ramshackle football team.
  10. Yep, more obvious than Yoshida. Seems odd to me Clyney pushing Henderson, the well known 2nd choice England Right Back.
  11. No, no, no. Former Chelsea and England centre forward Kerry Dixon. Nothing to do with us guv. Its a bit like claiming Redkrapp as our former manager. These claims should only be made when they are good things. As far as I know Dixon never played for Saints. Next someone will be claiming Speedie was a Saints player, laughable really.
  12. Nope, didn't even enter my head. Who gives a flying **** about Stoke?
  13. We signed a 2012 Champions League winner. KK is on the banner because he is part of the Saints folk lore, he may not have stayed long, but this is how players become legends. I think Jose is a top player, but really he isn't and never will be one of the outstanding legends of this club, unless he leads us to a CL Final or something. Still irritates me that Big Ron is not on the banner.
  14. Of course, I looked it up in a dictionary
  15. They don't. If you had read the original link you would have noticed it referred to Bologna's return to Serie A, the whole reason for the speculation in the first place.
  16. Also known as All Saints Eve. "Hallow" = Saint or holy person. Can we be sure Hallowe'en is on 31 October this year?
  17. There's something odd about us having been away first game now for 4 seasons running. Its not supposed to be pot luck, they always were supposed to even it up, can only think we have requested an away game for one or more of those seasons (not necessarily this one). That said the fixtures are decent, don't have any problem with the first fixture, just odd. I wonder exactly how many of our home games will get changed to Sunday or Monday, not that I care any more since I will be retired after this week.
  18. Its certainly harder playing for a team "coached" by Brenda and having to cover for a geriatric midfielder.
  19. First mow after 2 weeks (21st) http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/20150606-st-marys-pitch-renovation-under-way-2484431.aspx
  20. Doesn't inspire, guess this is the Toby fall back option.
  21. If you assume its a random selection. Its not, it is supposed to work out to be fair over a 2 season cycle. It is odd already to have been away first three times.
  22. Nice bit about MLT talking up Morgan to United.
  23. Kevin Davis as well. We should also remember Phil Boyer and Charlie George gained only 1 cap, and at present Jay Rod. I hate to mention him but our very own CB Fry is also singular in terms of caps. Not Saints related but the brilliantly named Segar Bastard gained his only cap in 1880 against Scotland. I remember the game well, chanting his name, apparently later he became a referee, hence the origin of the expression, "the referees a jolly nice chap". http://www.englandstats.com/players.php?pid=85
