Jaaskelainen is just as likely to have kept a clean sheet as Adrien. Must be great to have such a good backup keeper on the bench.

Uprising (the chorus), Knights of Cydonia would be better, but it is very good. Problem is that getting an atmosphere going is not aboutplaying music, its about people being in their seats (or standing) 10-15 minutes beforehand and making a lot of noise. But doesn't happen with modern football, people are too busy trying to get another drink of fizzy **** or cardboard burger rather than getting into the ground early to get some atmo going. So the Club, like others play music to try to get something going. The music we play is pretty good (most impressed with the person that got Smoke on the Water included), but in the end no music will ever create an atmosphere (unless we are Liverpool).

Safety hazard. With the numpties we have at St Mary's who can't even get to their seats by the time the game kicks off, it would be carnage on the stairways (OK, I was late on Wednesday, but only due to traffic).

Saints' future success may be coming from.. the class of 95.....
VectisSaint replied to david in sweden's topic in The Saints
Scholes was not amongst the players that won the Youth Cup in 92, despite this he is considered part of the Class of 92 for some reason. They gloss over the fact that another member was Lily Savage (or was it robbie?) -
They're better without old man Gerrard anyway, so not really good news.

Same here, absolute nightmare. That was after terrible journey to the game in the first place (sounds like West Ham were caught up in the traffic as well). The M3 and M27 is just ridiculous, did they really need to start preparing for roadworks at around 10pm last night on a night when it was clear it was going to be very busy? Really beginning to wonder whether going to midweek game is worth it any more. Southampton also seems to have the worst traffic lights anywhere in the country.

Posted yesterday on the Mirror: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/southamptons-disastrous-record-transfer-dani-5147054 Also Boruc wants to stay with Boscombe in the PL.

I really think Sherwood should be the manager at Forest.

Probably something to do with their different positions. Much harder to blood a young CB in 1st team in PL, than a left/right back or midfielder. Putting the pair of them in a good footballing team like Swindon and them being first choice has given them the opportunity to gain valuable experience not just individually but as a pair, working together learning each other's game. I've seen them a few times now (on TV) and they are both very good at this level. Wouldn't surprise me if their loans continued next season especially if Swindon get promoted to Championship (which they should do either directly or via play-offs). The Club must see them as longer term, unlikely to push out Fonte, Yoshi or Florin (and hopefully Toby as well), but another year or so and they should be ready.

We played our 3rd choice LB who is also our 3rd choice CB. I know we were not in trouble. Just pointing out that if anything happens tonight to any of our defenders we don't have anyone on the bench to take their place. We also don't have u21s coming through, other than McCarthy, except for two good ones who are on loan and doing very well at Swindon. Its not a problem if everything goes well, we have been lucky so far that we have managed to cope, what if our luck runs out?
-
Yes it would have an effect, but "most teams" in the top half of the PL would not have no defenders left (or as in our case 1 youngster with 1 league appearance to his name). Very promising youngster mind you. Sorry if pointing out that we are down to the bare bones does not suit your "everything is rosy" outlook.
-
Assuming that Yoshi plays LB tonight it will be interesting to see what defensive backup we will have on the bench, if any. As far as I can tell the only defender available who is not already slated for a starting place is young McCarthy. We don't even really have the luxury of dropping Wanyama into the defensive line if something happens to one of our recognised defenders, given that Morgan is likely to be unavailable (and we have dispensed with the services of Jack Cork). I guess Steve Davis could drop back into one of the full back berths in an emergency. Once again the lack of depth in our squad is being shown up, lets hope we can get away with it once again.

Saints reunion at Oldham tonight, Mills, Mellis and Forte beat Stephens and Turnbull 2-1

Well he wasn't training with the first team, and Ronald said it would be a few weeks at least before he would be back with the first team squad in training. Reckon he will figure in a few more u21 games before we see him again in the PL.
-
He gets that from the fans whenever he comes on the pitch.

You've written almost exactly what I said, but I still don't think you get it. We will be limited in the size of our PL squad next season unless we bring in some new home-grown players, assuming that one or two of what we have will go, e.g. Morgan and Clyne, we could be down to 4 or 5, in which case we will only be able to name a squad for the PL of 21 or 22 (not counting under 21s). We already have a very small squad, if we qualify for Europe we will need a bigger squad, and you can't just get that by buying or loaning new overseas players. Despite all the hype that we are renowned for bringing through players from the home nations the fact is that we currently have very few senior professional home grown players.
-
You discussed the European rules in your Blog (and very interesting and a good read it is). But you are missing the point that we also have to comply with the PL rules for the vast majority of our games. yes, we can name different squads for PL and Europe, but it is the PL where the bigger issue arises, because we will likely have a very small number of home-grown players (PL rules last time I looked did not distinguish between club and association trained). If we only have, say 5 home -grown players then that will mean 3 slots in a 25-man squad would need to be left empty (this has no effect on u21 players, as many as you want can be named). But it does mean we are limited to the number of overseas players. The issue is that I think it highly unlikely that we will sign some overseas players who are then only eligible to play in Europe. Why would we sign someone who might potentially only play 2 matches? So this summer, if we qualify for Europe, the club would need to bring in one or two home grown players if we are going to have a decent sized squad ready to cope with a European adventure. We can't just bring in players from Eredivisie which is what this thread is all about (unless we can find some Brits playing there).
-
not to mention three times as many goals as JWP in considerably less appearances
-
I think we would be struggling with the home-produced rule, especially if we lose Morgan and Clyne in the summer. We seem to have gone from a club that was lauded for all of the young British players we were bringing through to having hardly any senior home-grown players (Kelvin, Clyne, Bertrand, Morgan, Steve Davis, J-Rod, Forster, think thats about it, unless Shane Long counts. Of those none have come trough our much heralded Academy and only Morgan has come through the Youth set up in any way). Take Clyne and Morgan out and that will limit our squad size to 22, which is going to be a problem if we qualify for Europe.

Pellé getting some stick from our fans.....fair or not?

True, we might be in 2nd. -
You should sack your editor.

From the original link below to the Treatment of Head Injuries: "Concussion is a brain injury. There is no blood test or scan currently available that can diagnose it." So having a scan is not really of any benefit, other than to ensure there is no other injury. It also says: The player should undergo a period of physical and mental rest for at least 24 hours after the injury (which includes the playing of video games or similar) I hope it wasn't Matty himself that was Tweeting. Matty will not play On Wednesday, and probably should not even train this week if the guidelines are followed.

Perhaps he would have struggled with Matt Mills playing CF.

He is, just not yet.
