No, the word apparently is not beside the point, it is the point. As danny himself has come back and said, the fact is he was present when Cowan provided this information and is the author of Wiki. I doubt actually that Danny is paid "to be a journalist", he is paid to provide interesting articles in his newspaper that help to sell the said paper. And anyway whoever told you that a journalist is only interested in substantiated facts. have you actually ever read a red top national newspaper, one thing you will discover that it is difficult to find any facts in them whatsoever. There are a lot of stupid things in this world, but having a go at a local newspaper reporter for making use of available resources to make an interesting story is just plain silly. Especially when the content of the report is allegedly factually correct, as in this case. We live in the UK in the 21st century, get over your pedantry and try to enjoy life a little.

If you read the article again it says "apparently the stadium was built to allow expansion to around 50,000)" The word apparently should give you the clue that it is not being stated as a fact. I don't see anywhere where he states this is a fact, and does at least provide the source of his "information". As I understand it, what he states is also true, I remember this was discussed at great length some years back when apparently we were in the Premier League (I checked this in Wikipedia) LOL I bought a national Sunday paper last weekend, I don't think it contained any facts. I do recall it referred to Saints as "relegation threatened" and thought that was amusing.

Was it Pulis?

Was WGS counted in the number of away fans recorded?

What on earth would be the point of having a reserve keeper and then go and get a loan in, I guess that would make Bart feel good. Some people really do need to get a grip. Bart would have played anyway in the JPT and FA Cup I would think. We don't need a loan. Only issue is who to stick on the bench, would rather have Poke than Forecast, but suspect we cannot recall Poke from his loan at Torquay (is that correct?).

South World Cup bid 2018 Portsmouth City turn it down.
VectisSaint replied to derry's topic in General Sports
Don't think the UK are bidding. It is Engerland only. -
The reason he turned West Ham down was because he wanted to play and not be a bench warmer. KD is a great shot stopper. In many other respects his abilities are hugely overrated, such as coming for crosses, distribution and command of his area. Don't know if he is best in L1, though I would consider Kuypers (sp?) would give him a run for his money especially based on his performance last week for Brighton.

I did on Shanklin beach, not sure what the connection is with Hartlepool, I guess they are both cold (Hartlepool and ice creams)
-
I guess you meant Saga is our only international striker apart from Connolly (49 caps for Ireland). By the way I can confirm that Hartlepool is a dump, I was there a few weeks ago, quite pleasant round the old docks area, nice museum and some smart looking housing near the ground, but get away from that part and it makes Pompey look up market.

Yes, but its not "simples" is it. If he gives away a goal and we score 2 then he hasn't cost us 2 points. He may have put pressure on us to score a second, but we had best part of 45 minutes and we did score so don't go blaming James for costing us 2 points. Simples.

What a knob. Pray tell what is a football people? Is Markus Liebherr a football people? You seem to think so as you mention him in your "location"- would have though that he was a bit too middle class for your liking. For your information middle class people don't go to Tesco, we tend to frequent M&S and Waitrose (or Fortnum and Mason on the odd occassion), Tesco is for chavvies LOL

Trotman - is he as good as we first thought?
VectisSaint replied to wessex saint's topic in The Saints
I guess people would moan about his lack of pace if Usain Bolt played for us. Sheesh, some people are getting ****ing stupid around here. Then to suggest Murty being back is good, I think I know where my money would be in a race between Harding and Murty. We drew with Norwich yesterday folks, not a bad result against one of the top teams. We didn't lose we scored 2 great golas, yet it seems people on here are at the wrist slitting stage already. One thing to bear in mind at all times, it is an indisputable fact that we are currently watching the worst Saints team for over 50 years (possible exception last year's team as they were relegated to this level). You need to remember that we have level 3 standard players now that we are not in the Prem. The best we should hope for from this squad is that many of them would be OK in the Championship. We probably have the best squad in L1, and we certainly have one of the best coaching setups now. -
Probably something to do with him being fit, whereas Murty may be back in contention now but it remains to be seen for how long. Still I like your criticisms of Lambert, Davis and Hammond, makes a change from the tossers lambasting James

You still don't get it do you. Try reading what is written. If you had any undeerstanding of the history of Saints you would know that these were the words of the song we used to sing for Ron. Of course the view is biased towards Saints, butr actually in this case I think you would find that anyone over the age of 10 would actually recognise that Ron was one of the greatest proper centre forwards ever seen - Sir Matt Busby was a good judge and that was what he thought when he tried to sign him.

Waigo - the next Camara or Ali Dia in disguise?
VectisSaint replied to Huffton's topic in The Saints
I wasn't there so did not see the incident, but from your description this possibly says more about Mellis than Waigo. If Papa was blatantly offside then Jacob should not have passed to him and gone alone. -
I accept I wasn't at the game today but how did James cost us 2 points? Was he directly to blame for the 2nd goal, most seem to be blaming Davis. He may have given away a penalty but we were still winning before their 2nd goal went in. As I said last week it seems James has become the scapegoat for those who feel the need to have someone to blame. Its a team game, get off the lad's back. he has been asked to play out of position due to unavailability of Murty and has done a decent job from what I have seen.

Thought he missed a few handballs personally, and with Henry in the stands he should have done better.
-
We can honour who we like, we are talking here about honours being bestowed by Solent University, I suspect they will not consider George as being worthy of an Honorary Doctorate of Sport.
-
I would like to think that Ron would "complete the set". I really don't think anyone else (given that this sort of honour is for living legends) would merit this status, and more would devalue it. Of course Sir Ted could have been rightly honoured in this way, but sadly that is not possible. Think its great that some of my heroes are becoming fellow alumni of Solent Uni (OK, OK, it was the College of Technology in my day )

2018 World Cup bid - Time for Saints to step in
VectisSaint replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
Cowes. I'm sure Westwood could be brought up to a better standard than Nottarf Krap... Come to think of it, I'm sure it already is. -
Good man, and thanks for taking the time to do this. I'm not a particularly sentimental bloke, but I really do hope this eventually happens, it would be particularly fitting in my opinion, for both of my football boyhood heroes, Ron and Mick to be honoured in this way.
-
Accepting that you really meant disrepute, then isn't this one of the most blatant examples of "bringing the game into disrepute"? The game is clearly now in disrepute, action must and should be taken to ensure that this does allow the game to be tarnsihed.
-
I guess you also don't know then that Channon played for Saints before Ron, and like Channon also played for Norwich. This hatred of Pompey that you seem to know so much about is a relatively new phenomenon, in the days when our great players moved down the road (pre M27) to play out their careers at a lower standard club was in the days when there was a rivalry, rather than hatred. The two things are very different, rivalry is healthy, hatred is not. Many many supoprters of Saints in those days would also slum it in the intervening weeks by going to watch Pompey (and vice versa of course). I used to regularly watch Pompey (though I did usually have the sense to stand in the away end). We were almost always in different divisions and so it was quite Ok to support both. In my time the real rivalry was with Spurs, not Pompey. It is a reflection on sad people like you, not the players that you would find it difficult if a Saints legend player for Pompey. Just in case you are unaware by the way, I'll let you into another little secret, Bobby Stokes not only played for Pompey but he was a Pompey lad. While Bobby is not in the same league as Mick and Ron (in legend statsu) he is still something of a Saints legend primarily down to that one moment of glory - but I guess you would have had a problem with that as well. Ron Davies, the greatest centre forward the WORLD has ever seen. FACT.
-
As I suspected all along you have very little knowledge of Saints if you think Big Ron was English. You also clearly don't recall the song and if you had seen Big ron play you would have great difficulty in naming a better CF in the world. I'll stand by what I said.
-
As I said on the Big Ron thread, Solent Uni should be looking to complete the set of Saints Legends by honouring Ron Davies in the same way. Mick deserves such recognition as does MLT and Lawrie, but I think Big Ron would be just about the ultimate - the greatest centre forward the world has ever seen.
