Yep, you are one of the few. Anyone with even a hint of an issue with Lowe gets lambasted by Numpty Canteen. Agreed, WGS is not really a legend in the true sense, but he was one of the better managers, and one of the very few good decisions that your lord and master made. Given the last 10 years or so some of the younger element will think very highly of him because they have little to compare him with, the Duck hunter saw to that. What WGS relies on is workrate/fitness. You cannot introduce that mid-season, it requires a proper pre-season. WGS will bring in a couple of players in January, ones that will run themselves into the ground for Gordie (bit like Telfer and the other guy he brought in for us whose name escapes me), and will start a transformation. Like the aftermath of Burley, what Strachan is dealing with is the aftermath of Gareth Southgate. Players who became lazy due to having a manager who had stopped caring.

Main reason for more saves is because keepers are allowed to move nowadays. In Peach's day keepers were strictly not allowed to move until the ball was kicked. Not sure how many of his goals were pens but it was a large proportion of them, as far as I know he never missed one for Saints.

Because it will help keep the World Cup campaign on the rails

As always, play the best team you have. Messing about with resting players is a recipe for disaster. If professional players cannot play games twice a week then they should find a new job. It is bad enough that we will have to shuffle the pack to deal with loanees. The best way to be a successful is to get into the winning habit every game.

I think they should get David Peach to coach the England team at taking penalties.

Yep, as was Northampton. Its 8 away league games unbeaten, or 10 away in all comps.
-
During the game on Saturday our home and away records were identical, but we messed that up by scoring a 3rd and failing to keep a clean sheet.

Slightly surprised, I thought we invested a lot of money in Staplewood when SCW was around. Clearly apart from the Dome the changes were not as extensive as we were lead to believe (surprise surprise). Does anyone know what will become of the fish tank? Will it be upgraded to a new Sea World attraction?

I don't understand why you think it amazing. If this is true then I find it amazing that no-one has done this before. I have no idea whether this culture amongst the younger lads (I know SG is not a kid) is prevalent or not, but if someone at SFC allowed such a culture to develop then it is absolutely unforgiveable. If true I have my own idea when it would have started of course.

Doubt Lambert will top Big Ron's 37 goals in Division 1 in 66-67 or Derek Reeves 44 in 59-60, but would be great if he did.

Alf Ramsey did OK Lets not forget Surman, also left too soon, hardly getting a sniff at Wolves - unused sub for team in bottom 3 of Prem.
-
You're right of course

OK, if you ignore Gillingham, Exeter, Brentford, Orient and Oldham. Relegation is not an issue, just remember we have scored 10 points more in 20 games than the teams on same number of points as us. If that form is carried on, we will be 10-20 poinys clear of them at the end of the season, and that takes into account our crappy start to the season. Our only view now should be upwards, and I don't care that swindon won today, being 15th already is such a huge boost to our confidence, and Swindon will fade away as they always do. 9 points off the play-offs, with 26 games to go, it is becoming a perfectly realistic target now.

The Sky not live table - we're 15th
-
10 away games unbeaten, how good does that sound?
-
Up to 17th, Swindon 1-0 Orient
-
As things stand our home and away records are identical 10-4-4-2-17-12 Very tidy
-
I think they already did when they announced his appointment as Skates manager, how much more humiliation is there?
-
I don't think Rickie has been up for it in the last few games, I suspect the after effects of the flu he was suffering

If it means getting him off the Radio Rodent commentary team then I would support that, I might even then re-subscribe to Sainst Player. Serious question, do we know for sure that the post of Club President no longer exists? I was quite surprised to find that the OS seems to be missing any details of who is who at the Club (except for players and coaching staff of course). There is no mention of ML or NC or anyone of that ilk. Unless I am missing something (quite possible, lots of people think I am missing something). As I haven't been to a home game yet this season I have not see a programme - this information used to be listed on the 3rd page of programmes. Club's should have a Club President, if only as an Honorary position, no reason really why John Mortimore should not still hold that position. Lawrie is the other blindingly obvious candidate (awaits incoming from Mr 19C), but I'm sure that there are others who would be willing to fulfil the role. This is nothing to do with the running of the business, it is not a directorship, so should not be controversial for ML/NC to appoint. Its really about meeting and greeting on home match days.

-10 was down to the Football League, not the Football Association. When will people understand the basic strcture of football governance in England (I'll accept that you are in Scotland, but surely its the same there with the SPL, the Scottish Football League and the SFA - not Sweet Fanny Adams in this case).

Portsmouth fail to pay their players again...
VectisSaint replied to Daren W's topic in General Sports
Yes it is. Rules for Premiership teams are from the Football Association (FA). Rules for Championship/League 1/League 2 are from the Football League. Football League teams are additionally subject to FA sanctions (as evidenced by Luton's points deductions for irregular payments). The Football League and the Football Association are completely different entities, the FL is affiliated to the FA like every other league in England. -

But the kids were played under JP, not Wotte. Try to keep up. Wotte reintroduced some of the older players and changed the style completely. I would love to see the evidence of him being a perfectly capable coach, his CV is not very good.
