Indeed, I don't understand why the press and fans in this country are so hung up on Michael Owen. Strikers in his mould just aren't effective at the top level anymore.
-
When was the last time he scored against a top class side? aside from a decent hat-trick against Wolfsberg he hasn't scored against a top 4 side since he left Liverpool. Gets the odd goal against the likes of West Ham, Everton, Sunderland etc. He's not even half the striker he was. I would much rather have Emile Heskey in the England side. Even if Owen was 100% fit I'd still rather take Heskey, Rooney, Cole, Crouch, Defoe, Bent and Agbonglahor, Owen if past it.

They could have made themselves a hero right there. Infact I'd probably have Antonio's name on the back of my shirt if he had nutted the scouse ****.

Are we as fans now obsessed with Pompey..?
Andy_Porter replied to Thedelldays's topic in General Sports
I don't really care if people think we're obsessive. If some plonker pulls out a Pompey flag after thirty second you're going to start with the anti- Pompey stuff would be exactly the same if a fan pulled a Spurs flag our infront of Arsenal fans or a Liverpool flag infront of some mancs, it's just football and the intense passion that comes with rivalry. FWIW I was actually in my seat early for once and the 15 minutes before the game kicked off and it was all pro Southampton chants and getting behind the players. We're no more obsessed than any other set of fans with their rivals. -
We won't take five strikers, Owen isn't a big game player and Capello wouldn't pick him. I don't know what the obsession with the little scouse midget is, he's been cack for about five seasons. I was actually quite glad to see him get injured so now the press won't keep banging on about him going to South Africa, we will be a lot stronger without him. Rooney, Heskey, Crouch and Defoe. Walcott will probably go as well if we take Brown as he takes away the need for a fourth centre back.

We where out of the running for play offs as soon as Milwall got their equaliser against us in January. If we had won that we would have had confidence going into a very important part of our season and would be flying. That goal cost us dearly imo.
-
That referee was never going to give us a penalty, not a chance. Fonte went down too easily under the challenge, it wasn't a penalty but it shouldn't have been a yellow card either, if it was Seaborne who had gone down like that it wouldn't have been a yellow... Barnards was a clear as day penalty, wasn't at all suprised that the referee didn't give it he was just shocking. The ref had it in for us for whatever reason, can't believe Kelvin went the length of the pitch to shake his hand. I think everyone else refused and walked off.

SWF Football Flemming Park - 28th February 1700-1830

Well there was only six of us! Are we playing today? or giving it a break for a week? -
That's very strange... Can't see any reason to take him off other than injury he wasn't even having a bad game.
-
That referee was terrible, he didn't have a hold of the game at all and disrupted the flow of the game every thrirty seconds blowing his whistle for nothing challenges. We where crap though, lost the game in midfield. Lallana and Puncheon where both rubbish, should have taken one of them off far sooner it just wasn't working out for them. Even our set pieces where shocking, just nothing came off for us all day, it was the complete opposite of the Huddersfield game. Was Dan Harding taken off injured? I really hope not he's probably been our most consistent performer this season. Davis and Barnard where the only two players who played anywhere near their best, not sure why we took off Barnard would have preffered to see Puncheon and Lallana come off instead. The only positive was the clear roads for the drive back.

There's no way we've covered our expenditure with our income... The training ground will be a few million, 1.2m for Fonte, 1m for Lambert, 400k for Hammond, 400k for Seaborne, Jaidi, Connolly, Murty, Harding, Pardew etc won't come cheap. Leibherr will have dipped into his pockets a few times this season.
-
Still seems strange to use the reserve side as a youth team when we've got such a big squad. Probably got something to do with the awful level our reserved are playing at since relegation.
-
Molyneux is just terrible as bad as Pulis. Ben Reeves is ahead of him for the reserves at left back and he's doing well. Not sure what's happened to McLaggon I suppose his injury last season must have really caused him some problems which is a shame because he looked brilliant at times last season. There are a few players who don't get a run out for the reserves and are no where near the first team. Gillett, Gobern etc they must get so bored.
-
We had better win. I ****ing hate the Liverpool area and wasting a day of my life there for anything less than a win would be depressing. Reckon we will beat them but it won't be quite so convincing as the last two. A Lambert free kick and a Jaidi header after going a goal behind.
-
Must pay more attention when posting, at least you got there before Scott...
-
Worth a try. It's midweek and you need to write a letter which will put loads off. I've already wrote my letter can't wait for this one need some revenge after they beat us and released a DVD.
-
You can be sure he will be attracting interest of other clubs. Just hope he's on a decent contract and settled so we don't lose him cheaply.
-
Jaidi? He's been one of our best performers don't see any reason to replace him.
-
Annoying but can understand why they've done it. Also it's a far better system than the one used for Exeter, should ensure the right people get tickets.
-
He wouldn't have been throwing himself in front of the ball like that last season now he dies it at five nil, credit to Pardew for getting the best out of him. I wouldn't swap him for any midfielder in the League. When he's on form he's a class above. All he needs is a goal
-
He's playing with so much confidence at the moment, like the rest of the tram he was a joy to watch.
-
Fair play to the lad must be highly rated to get a place on the bench ahead of Gobern.
-
Can't single anyone out as motm they where all superb. The front six are all on form and working superbly as a unit leaving the defence with very little to do, the full backs get forward and support while Fonte and Jaidi clear up any lost balls. First time we've had such a balanced team who all work so hard for eachother since WGS side. Pardew will take us to the Premier League. Special mention to Schneiderlin as well when he's playing with confidence as he is at the moment he's a joy to watch on the ball. Throwing himself infront of the ball at 5-0 shows quite how much he's come on over the year. I really hope he's still in our side at the start of next season.

How many of our players are CCC standard ?
Andy_Porter replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
Guess I should probably give up trying to defend Lloyd James Im firmly In thr minority who rate him. We went to pieces against Brentford and had quite a few other games where he played well in midfield (Wallsall, Charlton, Hartlepool) to judge him on just the Leeds game is a bit harsh was only really two centre halfs who done anything decent that day. I don't think he's a terrible right back either but then I don't rate any of our right backs.
