I flying down from Ayr to Bournemouth next season to get to home games, when I'm not working. Not much help to anyone on here really. I'm another one hailing from Lincolnshire, so if I ever end up back there I would be interested in sharing a journey with someone.

Saw him at Hull when we got stuffed 5-0 a year and a bit back. He was absolutely class, even in that Hull team. Reminded me of Theo at times. Trouble was, so did Henrik Pedersen, so maybe that game wasn't a true reflection of his ability. I'd say £5m was a bit steep, but more has been spent on worse players.

As long as it's not the ABBA tribute band they had before the Villa match in '05, I don't mind.

F**k no! For a start I am just pleased we still have a club to support even if it is in the third tier of English football. Secondly, I am looking forward to next season MUCH more than last, even if we haven't signed any players yet. The club is on a much more stable financial basis and I expect a much more competant manager to be appointed than Portaloo or WTF. Thirdly, Lowe is gone Forthly I am genuinely excited about visiting some of the tin-pot grounds next season, even if the football wont be anything to write home about. I went to Scunny two years ago and it reminded me of what the Dell must have been like (never got to go to the Dell ) So close to the pitch with the corregated iron roof and all the fans packed in. Fifthly, Lowe is gone Sixthly, I am pretty sure we will win more games next season than last. And lastly, Lowe is gone.

I'm definitely suffering from a good news overdose here. Saints saved from the brink of oblivion New billionaire owner All debts wiped out Lowe completely gone Wotte gone Kelvin Davis staying I think if Strachan was appointed there'd be a lot of creamy knickers on the South Coast, and certainly one pair in Ayr.
-
Kelvin signing up for another 3 years reminded me of a discussion on MOTD when Utd signed VDS. I think it was Hansen who claimed having a class act in goal would bring them another 10 points a season. As it happened Utd scored 6 points more than the previous season, but have won the League every year since. My question is, do you think Kelvin could have a similar effect here and therefore negate our -10? I.e. We're as well as having Forecast in goal and starting on 0.

I think a few people are getting a bit carried away with words like honour and integrity. All he has done is keep his mouth shut, which is what I'd expect. Personally I'd have been p*ssed off if he had done anything other than keep out of it. I wish him all the best in the future, but I'm not surprised he wanted to stay. Even in L1 Saints are well above his managerial capabilities. Loyalty??? What, for sticking around when Real Madrid came after him. Let's not kid ourselves here, however he left Saints, he wasn't going to move on to better things. Thanks Mark, but no thanks.

Davis signed on long term deal Wotte gone. A fantastic start to the MALI regime. Wotte has conducted himself well in recent months, but I think it's only compared to the Lowe/Admin/Pinnacle/no Pinnacle/maybe Pinnacle/Leibherr farce. In reality I wouldn't have expected anything less from a manager than to shut up and get on with pre season as much as possible. I haven't ever seen anything to suggest Wotte is up to the job, so this is a wise decision IMO.

Don't Leibherr make fridges amongst other things? I think calling him our "fridge magnate" would be pretty apt.

Lancashire was a bit 'ruff' last season.

Maybe that's where we've been going wrong.

I don't see how Matt spending his career here can be interpreted as a lack of ambition. Let's not foget he was showing his mettle in the toughest League in the world (IMO) playing for Saints. He played the likes of Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal et. al. every week and there is no higher level than that. He was easily good enough to play for England. The fact that he only got 8 caps reflects far worse on Hoddle and Vennables' judgements than Matty's. Had he gone to Spurs, he wouldn't have been playing at any higher level. At Chelsea he'd have had to make do with the odd UEFA Cup campaign, back in the days when they were getting knocked out by Viking Stavanger. It seems some people confuse ambition with the persuit of money. Sad IMO.

I have to completely agree with all of this, although given choice I would like to keep Lallana. Especially seeing as how we're not strapped for cash any more. (Feels so good saying that ) Lallana has potential but really has flattered to deceive. I'm baffled how Chez managed to bash Skacel for not delivering, when he was always good for a few decent crosses, a handful of assists and the odd goal. Yet at the same time he can sing Lallana's praises when he hasn't delivered anything of note since October. A bit of fancy footwork, some nice dribbling... no delivery on the end of it though and shoots like a fairy princess. For most of last season is was like watching Hammill the year before in my eyes. He has got potential, but other than that one goal at QPR, nothing he's done has really given me a semi so far. Schneiderlin, yeah maybe playing in the French U21s suits him, but the middle reaches of English football don't. A few fancy touches, but 0 goals, 0 assists and when the going gets tough, he just loses all interest. I'd take any reasonable offer for him. The only difference between him and Griffitt was the price tag.

Apparently the deal completely fell through when the prospective new owner visited Portsmouth. Gaydamak was hoping to keep him away until after the deal had been completed.

I've heard Senderos and Vonlanthen are having a medical tomorrow. True story* *I made it up. May not actually be true.

And just to put the sugar on the icing on the cake... Rupert is gone!! For the first time in over a decade we can categorically say he wont be back. He owns no shares. The club is owned by a single wealthy benefactor. There is officially no chance of him coming over the hills in a white horse (or lame ass) with an army of local businessmen to bring Total f**king Football back to Southampton.

Markus, I wish to bear you children. Unfortunately I do not contain the nescessary equipment for such a task, so a heart-felt thank you will have to suffice.

Midfield looks a bit weak to me. Lallana is a supporting striker if anything. Wouldn't play him on the wing because he couldn't cross a road. Gillett is like a terrier, but pretty short and his passing lets him down. No goals yet either. Schneiderlin contributes nothing to attacking or defensive play. Holmes is always injured, lacks pace and doesn't track back. WOuld be suicide playing him ahead of Mills. Me, I'd go with: Davis Murty Thomas Size Fish James Gillett **** **** Lallana Rasiak We desperately need some decent additions to all areas of midfield IMO.
-
I have yet to see anything of Wotte which would suggest he is capable of running a succesful League 1 campaign. ARGH!!! NOOOO!!!!! WOTTE OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! etc. To answer the OP: If any of Rasiak, Saga, Davis or John honnestly WANTED to be here, I'd be delighted to keep any of them. Euell and BWP can p*ss off. I'd also be pretty pleased if Fulham did offer good money for Schneiderlin.

Not the measure of Lowe's tenure IMO. Yes he made a good choice in appointing Strachan, I will give him that. However WGS and the squad take a much larger portion of the credit IMO. WGS bringing in Killer and Niemi for £2m each was quite possibly the best transfer window in our history. Add to that great seasons for stalwarts like Beattie, Bridge, Claus, CMFG and Oakley. 8th in the League is pretty good going for Saints, but we did get to the final by being drawn at home to lower League teams (and Spuds) in every round. Yes it was an excellent season, for which Lowe takes some credit, but I doubt all the Man U, Villa and Everton fans will be telling their grand kids about it. Burley aiming low doesn't excuse him for under performing IMO. He took over a squad in 13th, spent £10m and left with us in 12th. Not good value for money IMO. He took over a squad containing Jones, Fuller, Bale, Baird, Surman, Oakley and Lundekvam, spent £7m on more players and just barely scraped into 6th place on the last day of the season. Sorry, but that's not good management IMO. I remember £2m on McQ and a few loans. Where did the other £4m go?
-
I didn't want admin, but I'll sure as heck be glad of it IF we get bought out by Swiss billionaires tomorrow. If they appoint a decent manager and invest sensibly in the squad, I reckon this set up would EASY score 10 points more than anything Lowe could have put together. I don't think I could stomache another summer of selling the few remaining decent players, bringing in complete rejects other clubs don't want, bringing in the cheapest manager in Europe from the Dutch equivalent of Bognor Regis FC and labeling the whole package, "Total football". I hate how Lowe has run the club in the past, but I also feel genuinely insulted that he thought I'd believe such extreme bullsh*t. I don't care about the -10, as long as the club exists, that's better than another season under Lowe IMO.
