  1. I was sat in Block 38 (Row OO) and heard the remark too - but couldn't see who said it. Shouted back in the direction it came from and told him where to stick his racism. Some bloke standing near me for the Leicester game was talking about throwing bananas at Neil Danns too, but again I couldn't tell who it was (mostly because I was seeing through a fog of booze). I think it's disgusting that people still think like that nowadays, and of course the usual idiots (Turkish and Dune, i'll give you the attention you so desperately crave) come on here and take the mick. If they were black and were racially abused, I don't think they'd find it so funny - but unfortunately they're the typical idiots that give football fans a bad name. If Marvin Bartley was working in a shop for example, and he dropped a loaf of bread, would you shout "Give him a banana!" at him from across the shop? No, because you'd be arrested straight away for racial abuse. The type of pr!cks that do it are complete cowards that prefer to hide in a crowd of 30,000 others so that they don't have to face up to what they're actually doing. It might seem like a petty offence to some people, but it means a hell of a lot to others.
  2. Haha! Well, my co-host was particularly enthusiastic tonight so he took the reins for the show. Thought it went ok, bit sloppy but we usually just go Song-Chat-Song-Chat so talking over music and playing music continuously took a lot more concentration that we usually put in! Glad you enjoyed it though mate!
  3. Our first show starts in 30 minutes - we've got an exclusive mix from a well-known Manchester DJ to be played in the last hour as well as a selection of the choicest cuts of current and classic club tunes. Tune in from 7-9pm on 87.7 FM or on Facebook or even www.surgeradio.co.uk!
  4. I've just taken on a job working in a convenience store, and I have an interview on Monday for a junior position at a Southampton-based radio station. Hopefully I can build a career in radio from these seeds - I want to be secure and in a career job by the age of 26 really... Might be an ambitious goal given the state of world finances at the moment but in 5 1/2 years time things will hopefully be brighter...
  5. And you've got a ponytail you f*cking yuppie
  6. Brilliant that the club is in such peril over £1.6m when they were splashing money all over the plaice (pun intended) during their 'glory days'. £1.6m was peanuts to them when they had drug and gun money running through the club...
  7. My dad and little brother saw Bon Jovi at SMS a few years ago. I wouldn't like to see any gigs there though, because it'll f*ck up our pitch.
  8. Started up a game with Scotland, took them from second bottom in the Euro qualifying tables to second top, finishing comfortably ahead of the Czech Republic. Unfortunately our Euro group was Portugal, Germany and Ukraine and we got absolutely smashed, our only point came from a 2-2 draw against Germany (after being 2-0 down at HT). Ukraine went onto the final and Portugal in the Semis so not too upset to get knocked out by teams like that. Going into 2013 we're top of our World Cup qualifying group, Belgium are in second. Croatia and Serbia are lagging behind quite badly, Wales and Macedonia propping up the group.
  9. Martin has been superb, but he's looking quite tired now. I'd start Jos on saturday.
  10. On our way back from school, me and my neighbours who also went to my school (2 or 3 years older than me though) would push each other into a deep ditch at the top of our road which was covered over by a load of overgrown thorns and branches. I pushed my mate in there one time after school when he got his ankle caught on a vine on the floor, snaring him, smashing his glasses and making him bang his head on the concrete bit where the ditch had been dug out. Needless to say he was concussed and we had to wait with him until he could say the alphabet backwards, then we f*cked off home! The ditch was about 5ft deep, so it was a big fall but the trick was to land with your arse on the bank and bump down from there. I must've been about 9 or 10 when we did that. All the other usual stuff like chucking deodrant cans on bonfires, wrecking hay bales in fields, getting p!ssed up (when I was a bit older, mind) etc. My childhood wasn't that long ago, don't know why I feel nostalgic now.
  11. Not surprised he's gone tbh. The FA undermined him, and he's not the type of character to take that kinda thing lying down! Dream team of Mourinho + Beckham?
  12. Not sure if anyone's still using this thread or not, but thought i'd give it a bump anyway. Just finished watching 50/50 - wanted to see this film for ages but couldn't find a copy on the internet and cinema prices were extortionate... The film is basically a buddy movie about cancer. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a young journalist diagnosed with spinal cancer, and Seth Rogen is his best friend who has to care for him through the disease. Some great performances in it, I have to say - especially from Anjelica Huston, who plays JGL's overbearing mother. Rogen does his usual thing of cracking jokes and smoking weed, but there's a depth to his performance (especially in the second half of the film) that you don't get from any of his other movies. Despite dealing with a really heavy topic (and getting very emotional in some places, even the blokiest of blokes will have wet eyes in some parts), the film manages to carry off a lot of very funny scenes without neglecting the plot. There are few superfluous scenes tacked on for emotional or comedy value, everything is relevant to the plot. In short, it's got something for everyone. There's tears, emotion and romance for the sensitive types, and there's ball gags and weed smoking for the lads. Very, very good. 8.5/10
  13. Exactly my squad too. If Hooiveld isn't match-fit, play Martin and put Jos on at around 65 minutes.
  14. What's happening to us is similar to what happened to Leeds in our first season in L1 - they had a great spell, established themselves at the top of the league and then had a blip and fell away. They still finished 2nd. I think that's what we'll do. We need to pick up a few wins in a row over the next month to breed confidence. It would help to get Sharp and Lee scoring as well, if Rickie, Sharp and Lee are all in form then we can outscore anyone, especially with Guly too.
  15. First one I got: [/url] Sandra Osbourne Fiona MacTaggart Help me...
  16. Back home home now, with a meal in my belly and a nice cold one to sip from as I write this - much better! Overall I thought we were decent, apart from the first 25 minutes of the first half (where we were f*cking dire) and the first 30 minutes of the second half (where we were great). Too much hoofing in the first half, with no physical presence up front (especially when Guly switched to the tip of the diamond) and not closing down properly. Second half we were much better, knocked it around nicely and controlled the game, our passing was much better as well and the long ball was reserved for counter-attacks. Bart 7 - Made some very good saves and claimed a few corners and crosses under pressure, but his distribution was a bit nerve-wracking! Some more work on that in training, but overall a decent performance. Richardson 6 - Got down the flanks well and made some good interventions, but really needs to get his crossing sorted out - not a shade of what it was earlier in the season. Whether it's a lack of fitness, who knows? Harding 4 - Absolute horsesh!te in the first half, got turned inside-out and his passing was very sloppy, but second half he was better. Again, perhaps a lack of match fitness, but needs to improve if he wants the LB spot back. Fonte 6 - Good in the air, passing was good as well. Often it was left to him to launch the ball from the defence to the attack, which was more of a problem with the midfield but it's not his best role. Martin 5 - He was okay, nothing special really. Made some good tackles but also some sloppy passing and was exposed a few times due to poor positioning. He's been excellent the last few months, perhaps he needs a rest. De Ridder 8 - Thought he was excellent, zipped around and made some great runs with the ball. Perhaps made some wrong decisions with passing when cutting inside, but he's a winger. Caused their defence trouble when up front. Lallana 7 - Took his goal very well and some good link-up play, but disappeared a bit in the second half. Again, perhaps some work on crossing, but overall a good performance from him. Getting back to his best. Hammond 8 - Solid, made some good tackles and looked assured on the ball. Looks very comfortable in the DM role in a diamond, covers his defence very well indeed. Obviously out to impress tonight. Chaplow 6 - Looked a way off match-fitness, wasn't making the bombing runs forward that he usually does. Looked much better when he played wide in the diamond. When he's match fit, he can be the key. Guly 5 - Showed glimpses of his talent, but again he didn't look very fit. His tackling was atrocious (rugby tackling almost!) and gave the ball away a few times. Left Lee deserted up front often, looked better in the diamond. Lee 7 - Made some great runs off the ball, but our midfielders preferred to switch the ball instead of playing it into channels for him. Was making the kind of runs that Chaplow does when he plays wide, looks handy. Subs Lambert 7 - Great goal and looked very comfortable on the ball. Passing was good but seemed a bit confused by his role when we brought Barnard on and seemed to go 4-3-3, not sure whether to drop deep or stay high. Reeves 8 - Very impressed by him. Passing was great and made some good tackles. For a little lad he certainly puts himself around a lot. Looked very good out wide in the diamond, picked out some lovely through-balls. Barnard 6 - Got stuck in but not much else to say. Didn't match the speed of the game when he came on and looked a little lost. He's been out for a while though, so unfair to judge him too much on a cameo like today.
  17. Sitting in the KA now, absolutely seething about the result. Some will say it doesn't matter but it was a chance to get a win and build confidence. The reffing for their third was appalling, ball was still rolling and Feeney was offside. F*cking hope we get a result against Burnley otherwise I worry about the psychological effect it will have on the boys. I was embarrassed by ournsupport in the Northam as well, absolutely sh!te. Will post up ratings when I get home.
  18. Apparently the game is going to have live commentary on 5 Live, but i'm not sure if it's on telly anywhere.
  19. I was actually quite impressed by the halftime show, they certainly know how to do it big in the States. M.I.A. flipped the bird at the camera as well I think, which is brilliant!
  20. I guess I worded that wrong - it's more what they represent. They hold power, but they don't use it. If they did use power, they would be a lot less popular, i'm sure.
  21. Anybody tune in today? I listened for a few hours earlier and I was actually quite impressed by just how good some of it was! We had a session from local band Ideawake live in the studio today and they sounded great. 87.7 FM if you want to tune in, alternatively you can listen at www.surgeradio.co.uk/listen or on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/surgeradio!
  22. Republican. Amazed that we still count ourselves as a first-world nation considering we still live under a monarchy... The Royals do a lot of good work tbf to them, but it's more what they represent that I disagree with. Being born as a 'subject' to somebody who nobody voted for is akin to a dictatorship imo - even if they hold no real power now.
  23. A fantastic advertisement for the human race, what a guy. On top of that, he wrote some of the best songs known to man. RIP - I hope there's mary jane in heaven!
  24. Hadn't watched the build-up videos on SaintsPlayer before posting that up, now fixed. Will be great to see Chaplow running his arse off, hopefully he'll grab a goal as well!
