FM 2010 hints, tips, cheats & gems of players / tactics

Yeah, that is the Jose Goncalves from Hearts. He's a good back-up defender, he's versatile and is pretty pacy too. Worth a look! Despite having a pretty strong squad (easily one of the best in the division) i've not started too strongly, currently sitting 6th after about 8 or 9 games. Starting to pick up form though, hopefully we'll still be in and around the same position at the end of the season! -
Oh christ, I can't stand U2. Better have some good alternatives lined up Eavo!
-
I really rate him, think he's very good technically, but lacks the pace to beat his man. Having said that, his set-piece delivery is top notch, and that's definitely something we're missing at the moment.

On a lighter note, BadBoySaint has been released from prison this week.

Just about to start the second season, Markus gave me a very nice transfer budget (£8.5m for mid-table, yes please!) so i've managed to get a few prem quality players in. First XI: ------------Hart------------------ Wilson--Shilla--Goncalves--Mulgrew -------Crosas--Gibson------------- Pennant---------------------Petrov ------Lambert--Zaki--------------- Subs: Davis, Harding, Martis, Schneiderlin, Lallana, Ze Rui, Saganowski I did change ML to a Foreground Chairman in the editor, hence the hefty transfer budget! -
If it happened to Saints though, say in the FA Cup Semi-Final, you'd be p*ssed off too right? While ROI isn't a home nation per se, it does happen to be geographically situated next to all of the home nations, therefore one could presume that people have lots of ties with the country, and I would put money on there being at least one Irish ancestor in your family tree. Myself, i'm 1/4 Irish, but don't really follow the team. However, I did watch both of the France legs, and I felt that Ireland were the better team over the two legs. They showed far more commitment, hard work, teamwork and determination than the French did, and for that I think they deserved to go through. The French thought they could just turn up, put out an under-strength squad and waltz through to South Africa (which in the end, they did). However, I don't think that the match should be replayed. What's happened has happened, and that can't be changed. In the end, it was the referee's call, and you can forgive him for not seeing that incident through the crowd of bodies that blocked his view. The linesman on the other hand, failed to spot the 2 French players that were offside when the ball was played prior to the goal, which does raise questions. You could bring the whole FIFA/Seeding argument into it, but that just turns it into a conspiracy theory.

No, that was Alladeine (sp) Yahia, this is a different guy. Common name in Algeria i'm led to believe.

Every single iota of respect I ever had for Thierry Henry has now gone.

You are an ignorant moron to believe that's the calibre of degree that all students study. I presume most of those students are currently studying at Southampton Solent University (ranked 111th out of 114 institutions by the Times University Guide 2010) as opposed to the University of Southampton (ranked 15th out of 114). Lazy journalism to pick on obvious dimwits in order to prove a point, the vast majority of the student population are studying at the proper university, which actually requires relatively high grades to get in to. Fact of the matter is that students make up 10% of the Southampton population, therefore they also make up (at least) 10% of the Southampton economy. Whilst the behaviour of some students isn't necessarily perfect, don't tar all students with the 'lout' brush, because they simply aren't all out until 5am drinking in pubs and clubs and being sick on old ladies. I'd be more worried about the astoundingly high mugging rate in the city before i'd be worrying about a few students having a good time. And as for the students 'having their say', I doubt they'd be given half as much freedom of expression by the journo's as a 'worried resident' such as yourself. Grow a f*cking pair and get some common sense ffs.

Skintsaint, can't reply to your PM because i'm only a registered member. The formation I use is a good old fashioned 4-4-2, with the right and left midfielders pushed up into AMR and AML positions. One central midfielder is set to 'ball winning midfielder', and told to defend, while the other is set to 'advanced playmaker' and told to attack. I find that this gives good support to both the defenders and attackers. Instead of me explaining the whole formation, i'll upload it so that people can use it as they wish, and manipulate it. http://www.mediafire.com/?nzg32mknljz -
Burley Sacked as Scotland Manager
SuperMikey replied to the saint in winchester's topic in The Saints
Thank f*ck for that - he shouldn't have been appointed in the first place. As Walter Smith and Alex McLeish proved, we do have the potential to be qualifying for major tournaments, and nearly did that under them, beating France twice and drawing against Italy in the process. This time around, we couldn't even beat Norway. Hopefully the next manager will be at least half as good as Walter Smith - he'll still be miles ahead of GB. -

I think that's called realism mate Consistency for me is achieved by motivation, if your players are motivated to perform well, then they will. Squad rotation is also quite important, because although certain players are key to a team and how they play, they can't play every single game. Make liberal use of the Rest function on the Training settings, especially as you near the end of the season. In my game, i've just started the second season now, and i've gone a bit nuts with transfers. I've signed: Delron Buckley (Anorthosi) - Free Jose Goncalves (Hearts) - Free Charlie Mulgrew (Aberdeen) - Free Amr Zaki (Zabalek) - Free Marc Crosas (Celtic) - Free Darron Gibson (Man Utd) - £1.8m Robbie Brady (Free Agent) - Free Martin Petrov (Man City) - £1.6m Joe Hart (Man City) - £2m Jermaine Pennant (Zaragoza) - £900k David Jensen (FC Nordsjaelland) - £5k -
Only good player out there today was Lallana, Antonio looked dangerous in the first half but petered out in the second half. Lloyd James put some good crosses in, but nobody attacked them, and his free-kicks and corners were p*ss poor. The team really need a huge kick up the ar5e after today, we were completely abysmal.

Just finished the first season (i'm a slow player). Blitzed the league, finished miles ahead of anyone else, and only lost 2 games (to Dirty F*cking Leeds and a last minute penalty against Oldham). Got Marc Crosas, Delron Buckley, Charlie Mulgrew, Amr Zaki, Jose Goncalves and Darron Gibson coming in June, hopefully them with a few more signings will construct a team that can reach the Championship play-offs next season, or maybe higher. Any suggestions for people to sign anyone? I think you can forgive a little negativity from a fan after the past few years this club has experienced!
-
I think we need the teams in and around our area in the table to be losing matches, it'll make it easier for us to move up the table. Let's be honest, we're not going to get automatic promotion, and I personally think that the play-offs are still a distant shot. I think we'll finish between 7th and 10th this season, and we should be happy with that. I couldn't care if the teams at the top keep winning, because we're not going to be troubling them anyway, so lets hope all the top teams beat out table neighbours!

MLG, i'm having trouble installing a skin that i've downloaded (vitreous). I assume that the directions are the same as in previous games, but the skins aren't showing up on the list in the Preferences screen. Any help is appreciated guys. PS: All the steps have been correctly followed, but the files aren't showing in the screen, that's the only problem. -
We need to start thinking about CB, because Jaidi isn't going to be around forever. We should definitely look at getting Trotman in permanently, and we should also be looking at adding a little pace at CB. Is Izzy Iriekpen still available, or has he been signed by a club? He would be ideal imo, he's experienced at this level, strong, good in the air, and pretty bloody quick too. We need to be looking at Antonio as well, I wouldn't jump in and immediately sign him, because he's only had a couple of months at the club, and most of his appearances so far have been cameos, so i'd extend his loan until the end of the season and take it from there in July. We also need to get rid of some of the dead wood at the club, namely Pulis, Perry, Forecast etc. As AP has said, he wants to reduce the squad size, and we certainly do have a lot of players that have no future here. On that topic, do people think that Simon Gillet should leave? Obviously he has no part in AP's plans and Doncaster will be interested in him, but he is Saints through and through, and loves the club. It's a toughie, but I don't think there's any point in keeping him here if he's not going to play - simple as that. We'll take £250k from Doncaster and use that to invest in the squad (and getting some decent beer at SMS!).

I think prices have gone back up since the initial release, but Amazon will probably have it cheaper than anywhere else. I would recommend downloading it from Direct2Drive or a similar site (links for downloads are earlier in this thread, posted by MLG), and although you pay slightly more, you don't have to wait for it in the post and you can download your game directly onto your hard drive. You don't need to patch downloaded versions either, they patch automatically (I think). -

I'm currently finishing off my A-level in French, and I really enjoy that. It's not spoken in many other countries in the world, but it's a good 'starter' language to get you ready for learning other languages. Spanish is going to be a really important language within the next 10 years as well, with the Latin American countries growing a lot in business stature over the last few years. Mandarin and Arabic are probably good routes to go down as well. I'd love to learn Japanese though, that and Russian. But there are hundreds of languages in the world, so find one that interests you, because learning a language is a bloody long process, so you'll need a lot of patience and find it interesting to keep you going!
