If Rickie Lambert came out of retirement...

Sorry, that job has already been offered to Neil 'Razor' Ruddock. -
Hughes Hyperthetical Summer Transfer Window

Shaqiri is a good player, true, and would be worth the reported £20M asking fee. However, where would that leave Tadic and Bouffal, who are similar types? -

If that's a done deal, then he wouldn't need Luke Shaw as well?! -
Two games against Chelsea, which is more important?

If this was a choice of 'win the FA Cup' or 'take 3 league points', then I would say 'win the FA Cup'. However, as you said only 'get to final of FA Cup' or 'take 3 league points' I will say 'take 3 league points' as they may be crucial and I would be pessimistic against Tottenham in the final. Mind you, I was pessimistic in 1976, and we won that one against the odds. -
Try not to open the wine bottle before 6pm, Whelk! Love that "Man City - we beat Wigan who beat City so we are clearly better than them.." There's optimism and there's lunacy

I thought the same. Would Tadic - or Boufal - or anyone - have finished so cooly? I was majorly impressed. Great to see us looking for a second goal in injury time. -

This. If MH motivated the second half display, then well done MH. Under Pellegrino, nothing would have changed. -
WBA lose, Stoke lose ... Palace win (doh) Let's get after Huddersfield then.
-
Over here, Sky Soccer Saturday says deserved and that he gets away with such conduct in other games. You win some ...

- We must win the league games, not focus on trying to take a point That's the line I want to hear. Please, a few wins and I can accept the losses while trying

New manager 2018-19 season thread

Another vote for Jakanovic of Fulham, especially if he can bring Sessegnon and Tom Cairney as part of (ahem) "coaching team". We'll have Matt Targett on staff, so hopefully this can happen. -
Official..Southampton appoint Mark Hughes.

That was my thought too. Assuming he's living in the Stoke area, he would need to sort out accommodation etc. Review in the summer when he knows how long he is staying. -
Pretty accurate then. BTW, I'll see your Kaley Cuoco and raise you the even better looking one, Melissa Rauch.

And if we stay up, he is made a Saint, has the fanbase behind him and calling for him to be given a permanent contract PLUS there's that £1M success bonus sitting in my his account. If he isn't invested to get that reward, he has a problem. -

Butland going to Liverpool, and Stoke want McCarthy to replace him. -
I don't understand why in football managers are given fixed term contracts. I'm on a rolling contract at work, most of us are. If the employer wants to release, there is a notice period in my contract. It would save all these redundancy payouts. Yes, give Hughes a rolling contract and if either party want to bring it to an end, they can by giving notice.
-
Yes, it's that for me, too. We need some pazzazz and sparkle, a little spring in the step. Hughes is more your 'build a solid base, tough to beat, grind out results' type of manager. I want Prosecco, not a Guinness.
-
That may motivate the club to have the manager signed up today, and on the train to Bradford later. (As if managers travel by train!)
-
Meh, Hughes. Would have preferred Silva or Strachan or Pearson as an interim. But let's hope he can keep us up and then we can pull in a right-fit manager in the summer.
-
If so, this is a bit of a coronation. Only interviewing one candidate to see if the shoe fits, it seems.
-
Oh good, then I change my vote to 'Hughes IN"
-
I've said before that doesn't matter, if the 3 in the 4-2-3-1 support the 1. Look at Tottenham, Man U etc. They support the front man when attacking. Our 3 just go sideways or back.
-
Our Ops Director is a Hull guy and big Hull fan, said Silva was excellent, worked hard to keep them up and nearly succeeded. They were sorry to lose him but had to accept his notice. He said (at my desk 10 mins ago) if there's any chance we can get him, we should not hesitate. Also joked with me that Adkins is not much kop.
-
Depends if we are looking for an interim, or a permanent appointment. My preferred choice will be Jakanovic but I doubt we can get him at this stage. If Fulham fail to get promotion, then maybe we can attract him in the summer. If we're appointing now, and clearly we are, then we have choose from the redundants. Silva or Rowett would be good, still think WGS have something to offer, I can't get excited by Hughes, but accept he may be the one selected.

Is there anything good we can say about Pellegrino?
the saint in winchester replied to whelk's topic in The Saints
No, can't be the same guy. "I want to win matches..." Didn't see that in practice. If he had said "my philosophy is retain possession, don't let opposition have de ball, then we can draw matches" then yes, we got what it said on the tin. But huge discrepancy between what he said and what he did.
