Funny enough I was in Boston just after we moved from the Dell (and just before this bloke took over the Red Sox) and when I visited the stadium I remember thinking it had a lot in common with The Dell (although on a U.S. Scale obviously). Interesting that he managed to make a tiny stadium work and even deliver a league title for the first time in 70 odd years, whereas we got a shiny new stadium and League 1, and now he's apparently looking at us for inspiration!

He reminded me of a young Ferenc Puskas. Slightly better in the air tho. He really came of age on Saturday. All credit for Adkin's for Guly's dropping earlier in the season.

About the same time we signed Speedie - I reckon they will score more goals than Shearer.
-
Not quite. Pretty sure Luggy didn't make this point when he took over from WGS.

Agreed. I think changing a line, permanently, would be a fitting tribute. Oh when the saints, go marching in. Oh when the saints go marching in. Marching on, with markus liebherr. Oh when the saints go marching in.

When was the last time we won our first game of the season
Stud mark of doom replied to spyinthesky's topic in The Saints
I think the last home win was 1988 v West Ham, despite the fact that nearly all (c20?) of our opening games have been at home. It was 4-0 tho, with a great 4th from MLT. -
Interesting comment in response to this, which I had never heard before "I lived in Mexico in 1994 and on south American ESPN during each adverts they used to show El Le Tissier 'alto cinco' (top five) goals on TV." Matt's best goals in every advert break? Perhaps something for ITV to consider.

Installment plans cost the club NOTHING
Stud mark of doom replied to StuRomseySaint's topic in The Saints
Just a thought: I remember reading somewhere the ML never borrowed any money for his businesses - very unusual I would have thought in the world of business, especially engineering. I wonder if he's not keen on encouraging fans into borrowing to pay for their season ticket? -

Are you saying there are companies out there who are willing to 'lend' someone money and make a profit by charging that person a 'fee' or 'interest'? This could catch on. -
Reading friendly at St Mary's - 31st July 2010
Stud mark of doom replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
On whether we will get a prestige friendly, didn't AP make some rather disparaging remarks about whoever set up the Ajax friendly last year - along the lines of "God knows who had the bright idea of playing matches against the likes of Ajax - it is not going to help us winning matches in League 1." Are the season tickets prices really that late? I seem to remember it was always after the end of the season when we were at the Dell and it seems to be quite a recent thing that the date has got earlier and earlier. One reason is the perilous financial state of many clubs. I suspect we are waiting for the ideal time because we can afford to. (Crystal Palace were selling season tickets for 2010/11 in October 2009!!!) -
Probably eh - you didn't go yourself then? If so, slightly ironic.

Last time we made the play offs we were 5 points behind the team we caught (Preston) with 3 to play, and we didn't even have to rely on our superior goal difference in the end. http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/league-championship/2006-2007/table/2007-04-20 Prior to Tuesday we had a reasonable chance. No we have an outside chance and still a chance. Things could look very different if Stockport get something tomorrow.

Good idea - let's all go as Alpine Saint

Honorary Lions Fans for Friday Night..?
Stud mark of doom replied to St Landrew's topic in The Saints
Agreed - in those fixtures we only picked up 3 draws so it's still possible..... just. -
Pardew out anyone?
-
That's what I think - when the fixtures first came out I thought our easiest run was the last few games. And we'd then be going in to the playoffs with 11 wins in the last 12. Probably our hottest streak of form in over 100 years. If we win on Tuesday we will be very well placed.

Have we finally lost the chip on our shoulder?
Stud mark of doom replied to wimbornesaint's topic in The Saints
Not sure I agree with this - we were well established and the move to St Mary's cemented this. We hadn't finished below 12th in the previous seasons since moving to the new stadium - and that was 14 points above the relegation zone and after having been 4th during the season. -

Burnley v Citeh. Would you leave early if it was Saints?
Stud mark of doom replied to lordswoodsaints's topic in The Saints
The only time I have left early was the previous round that year. We were six nil up against Luton and I was 3rd in the queue for the White Hart Lane tickets. The ticket office wouldn't start selling till the final whistle! You never know.... -
We decided to walk from our Hotel to Waterloo this morning, to clear our heads after a fantastic day and great evening. As we passed St Paul's we noticed a single white balloon on the steps - which obviously called for a brief game of 'keep it up' - only to discover on the first kick that it had the club crest on the other side! I have a feeling that there will be quite a few Saints balloons in London over the next few years.

For the avoidance of doubt, I confirm this was an attempted joke.

Every proper club is built on its fan base. If Saints had gone completely bust last summer I have no doubt we would have been back at our natural level well within a generation. MKD are unique in having stolen someone else's club (or league position anyway) and moved it to an area with no football supporting tradition in the hope of making a nice profit. PW might well be a great bloke but I hope his business continues downwards through the leagues until they reach the natural level of MK to discourage similar ventures in future.

Paine v Lallana anyone?

I wonder if they have thought of a few thousand concrete fans?
