It's a photo of London. Technically, it's a marvel but the choice of subject is also important.

I was born there. I suppose it has some importance, it's just that Londoners think that it's the centre of the universe and anything outside is not worth a mention.

The comment that I read said that she would probably have got nothing in court. I guess that he felt he could afford £2m out of over £50m just to avoid the bother. My son got divorced recently and insisted on no spousal maintenance. I know of one woman who went to the judge complaining that she couldn't make ends meet and when the judge looked at all the details he said he could not award her any more than one penny a year extra. But it's a gamble.

When we went there a few years ago we parked in the residential streets up the hill about half a mile to the south. What I normally do for a strange ground is get there early, then drive away in the direction you would take to get home and park in the first available space on the left-hand side.

It has to be 'fair' so if some members of staff get an extra day off work and others don't then that cannot be 'fair'.

I would have though that in the interests of fairness your wife should have an extra 0.8 of a day to be taken at her discretion.

It's all to do with treating 'part-time' workers the same as those who work full-time. Whatever system is used, it must be 'fair'. Bank Holidays must be added to the basic entitlement before applying the ratio that is used for the part-timers. So, Bridge-too-Far, since your daughter is full-time I would have though that she should get an extra full day like everybody else, unles her contract specifically excludes this, although that may also be 'unfair'???

There are other complications. I have a member of staff who works 4 days a week, Monday to Thursday, so Friday is not a normal day of work. The standard Bank Holidays are included in the total number of days of holiday entitlement that full-time members of staff receive, and so for reasons of fairness his person gets 80% of this overall total. That presumably means that they will be entitled to an extra 80% of a day off work. Our holiday year runs up to April 30th so that means they will get this 80% of a day during the current holiday year. I shall be losing 3 person-days of work. Why can't they get married on a Saturday like ordinary people?

I agree with you in the case of British Rail, you can't have competition on the railways, if only because one train can't overtake another. BT is a vast improvement but has a long way to go. British Airways no longer soak up our money and when they are working do a pretty good job, if only they could get rid of the old ingrained public-sector working practices. In order to serve the interests of the shareholder then you must first serve the interests of the customers. But these are only a tiny fraction of the Public Sector Monster. Health and Social Services are where it's all draining away.
