Ouistreham used to be a lovely little seaside port where you could wait quietly for your ferry by the riverside until boarding started. Then a few years ago the migrants arrived and started living in tents and trying to force their way onto lorries and that’s when the fences and razor wire were put in place. There are armed officials patrolling the dock area too. These migrants are all of a similar demographic and in my opinion regarding unlikely to become doctors or university lecturers any time soon. They are without exception young males and my guess would be from somewhere like Somalia or similar.

I think it’s a mental thing. They are not quite as aggressive or adventurous once they have grabbed a lead. Not much in it but ay be just enough to make a difference. It’s like just after you’ve eaten when you’re not quite so ravenous.

I have a theory about this. Ralph likes a high pressing style which is likely to get us a first half lead but this is difficult to maintain for 90 minutes both physically and psychologically. Once we have won a lead the players are more likely to defend it than go chasing more goals. Just a theory.

Paul Jones? I was at Liverpool in 1999 when we lost 7-1 and we Saints fans were chanting “dodgy keeper” and at Tottenham when we lost 7-2 and he wasn’t very good then. Mail Taylor was a much better keeper but Dave Jones had promised Paul that he would bring him along from Stockport County.
