  1. Getting to the business end of the season now. Got tickets for the Challenge Cup final on Saturday, hoping the Wolves batter the Rhinos so they struggle to field a team at the KC the following Saturday.
  2. Why are the English so precious about this. I hate the flag of convenience thing but TBH most other countries have 'foreigners' playing for them and our cricket team and rugby team have done this for years. If Arteta wants to play for us and the rules state that he can, then surely he should be up for selection along with every other qualified player.
  3. .....
  4. Most Brazillians seem to qualify for a Portuguese passport.
  5. I think he's a decent player but he was pants yesterday.
  6. TBH he was stagnating at Saints'. He was always a better player than Beattie but never had his hunger (apart from burgers) or desire. I think Strachan (with some help from Allardyce, of course) actually saved his career by bombing him out.
  7. Blimey, that's good!! I've never managed to get a pint of Tetley's at St Mary's (or pretty much anywhere) that has been good enough to have been described as average.
  8. I don't know why Hammond is being singled out for criticism here. I thought the back four (or 5 if you include the keeper) were terrible, both individually and collectively. Hammond wasn't very good but no worse than Schniederlin and he was a damn sight more affective than Puncheon. Only Lallana and Barnard (who was our best player by a country mile) deserve any credit from that performance.
  9. BTW agree with Antonio. Not that I thought he was a particularly great player but in him and Papa Waigo, what we had last season was pace and unpredictability in abundance and players who could run directly at the opposing defence. We missed that badly yesterday.
  10. I know Cortese has reassured us that the Liebherr family are going to carry on running the football club and carry out Markus's wishes but I wonder whether his death has tied up transfer funds until all the legalities of his will and business interests have been dealt with?
  11. I agree but after hearing that interview I tend to think FF is right TBH. When asked about players coming in, it wasn't a "hope to get one or two in by the close of the window" or "we've identified a few targets" or even "as I said earlier in the week, we are keeping our cards close to our chest and seeing who becomes available" it was a straight NO COMMENT!!
  12. Jon Sopel, BBC newsreader and Chris Packham, naturalist.
  13. Don't really know what to say, really. I'm devastated, the guy had become like one of the Saints family and although there were rumours about health problems, I don't think anyone expected he wouldn't be here to see his plans come to fruition. I would presume the ownership of Saints and Mali would revert to the Liebherr family but what plans (if any) they have for us, is anybody's guess.
  14. I think Stenson ahead of Harrington on the last year's form.
  15. Off soon then!!!
  16. About the first post I have totally agreed with in months!
  17. TBF I think Lowe would have won more friends if he had taken on the Premier League rather than massage his ego by getting himself cosily on the board. The FL chairmen were a flock of frightened sheep, voting in favour of the extended parachute payments, Cortese told them so and I fully support his stance on that. Whether or not, the original post is accurate I haven't a clue and to be honest, couldn't give a toss!
  18. Has this already been posted?? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1299052/Saints-Hull-target-Arsenal-youngsters-Preston-talk-Russell.html?

    Beer

You'll be lucky. We'll probably go from the toilet water Carlsberg and Tetley to the equally unpalatable Fosters and John Smiths!
  20. That was a different team, Southampton Women's FC. Although they claim otherwise on their Pitchero website, Southampton Saints were only formed in the late '80's/early 90's as Red Star Southampton or RS Southampton (not to be confused with Road Sea). They play in Waterlooville FFS!!
  21. Wibble!!
  22. But if the club is not in the best financial position and are desperate to sell, the closer we get to the transfer window closing, the less they are likely to accept.
  23. Shouldn't that read "beyond Portsea Island"?
  24. Agree 100%!
