I regularly hear people quite distinctly using 'of' instead of 'have' as they seemingly have never been taught or told that it's incorrect. It's very common to read 'of' used in posts on here as well. Just poor education I guess.
-
And on the flip side of that, I always find sentences that begins with "I'm not racist, but....." invariably turn out to be actually quite racist.
-
"At the end of the day....." Why do so many important things happen at midnight FFS!?
-
That quite literally gets on my tits. (No, it doesn't - because being a bloke I don't have tits, but it sounds good dunnit?)

No more than Senegal deserve really. A nicely placed through-ball but the defending from GB was shocking.

When someone is telling a story and says "So I turned round to him and said..." Either you were having the discussion with your back turned up until this point, in which case you're probably a bit strange, or you didn't 'turn round to him' at all and are talking codsh*t.

MODS!!! Any chance we can get this or something like it embedded at the top of this thread? http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?iso=20120810T00&p0=1329&msg=TOAST+TIME

Global warming really is happening... (well, duh!)

That's not entirely accurate. Many western countries are already working hard towards their CO2 reduction targets, and China are slowly coming round as the environmental devastation caused by their economic boom becomes clear within their borders. The main problem in China is massive increase in consumerist attitudes in places such as Shanghai, as people have become addicted to the lavish, materialistic lifestyles that have become the norm there now, and this will make it very difficult for them to reverse the trends of the last 20-30 years. Any initiatives aimed at reducing emissions and creating sustainable development needs not just technological changes but drastic behavioural shifts as well. This requires involvement from the state, the private sector, civil society and the individual. If the whole world buries its collective head in the sand with the attitude of "Nobody else is bothering to do anything about it so why should I?" then we truly are f***ed. Whereas if everybody made some simple changes at the individual level then it will make the issue very difficult for the authorities to ignore, and the problem of the government failing to implement policy changes because it might affect their support at the polls would be seriously lessened. -

No, but he was on the Today program on R4 this morning repeating everything we have already heard.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/18946719 So Vettel spits his dummy out when Hamilton does something he is clearly entitled to do within the rules of the sport, while maintaining that he did nothing wrong in overtaking Button while clearly outside the boundaries of the track. Oh dear. I used to like Vettel but he doesn't appear to be a very good sport when he isn't miles out in front like he was throughout last season.
-
Could be a double penalty for Vettel then. Can't see how he will escape a penalty for that overtake on Button.

Got sent this yesterday. Geek-tastic!

Hmmmmm. You know how they usually put all the funniest bits in the trailer? Well I seriously hope that's not the best they could come up with otherwise this is going to be even worse than that so-bad-it-was-cringeworthy Back to Earth mini series they did a few years ago. I have to admit to being a massive fan of the original RD (series 1-6 at any rate) but I have no expectation of this actually being any good.

Here's a really interesting article if you have a spare half an hour... http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/global-warmings-terrifying-new-math-20120719 -
Duly cancelled. No way I'm paying that to listen to Merrington talk his usual rubbish when we're going to get much better coverage in the wider media this season. And much better quality video on the BBC highlights as well.

Saw them at Optimus Alive festival in Lisbon last friday, and got pretty near the front. All the criticism of Ian Brown's singing has been justified IMO, as he was quite badly out of key at times, but the crowd were drowning him out most of the time anyway and you could see how much he loved engaging with the crowd. He even had a go at rapping at one point while the other guys were jamming at the end of a song, and sounded great. Overall though, I thought they absolutely smashed it and it was probably the best festival headline set I've ever seen. Even Radiohead, who headlined the sunday night and were brilliant, didn't come close.

Sounds entirely feasible to me as well. Hoddle said that he organised the 'B' game against Russia so that players on the verge could stake one last claim to get in the full squad. MLT scored a hat-trick and set up the other goal, and still got ignored in favour of David f**king Batty. Hoddle publicly slated Chris Sutton for refusing to play for the B team, but his subsequent snubbing of MLT proved that Sutton was absolutely right when he claimed it was pointless.

I've had to get accustomed to the stuff as my GF is veggie, but I actually prefer using quorn mince now when making chilli cos it soaks up the flavours better IMO.

If you can ignore the slightly cheesy music, this guy's time-lapse photography of the Aurora Borealis really is quite special...

Isle of Wight Festival - Oops - Anyone stuck?

True, but the OP said it was about the same size as a pigeon, and buzzards are much bigger than that. Most likely a sparrowhawk IMO. Used to see them in my garden from time to time when I lived in Bitterne Park.
