I hope this isn't true - we need stability and I'm confident that AP will deliver promotion next season. Although I have had some gripes about some of his team selections (far too timid at times) overall I think he's done a good job - certainly good enough to have another go next season.
-
Really can't see a problem myself. AP has got the luxury of a couple of games to take a good look at some of the lesser known players and that's exactly what he's doing. Besides, RL could do with a rest after all the graft he's put in this season.
-
LOL. MLT was one of the most gifted players on the planet in his prime - comparing any player against him is pretty unfair. Rickie Lambert is doing a superb job for us and I'm really enjoying watching him smash the goals in........but comparing him (and > 99% of all other Saints players) to Le Tiss is crazy talk.

Great result today and great to be still in it. Looking at the fixtures I hope Exeter play like they are on fire at home over the next few weeks......
-
You've gained a lot of points on us by being a lot more consistent away to the lesser teams but on the other hand we have done much better than you away to the top teams. I think if you go into the game against Exeter needing a victory you will come unstuck. Exeter are a fully paid up member of the league 1 awkward squad - just the sort of team that will stick a spanner in your plans. I'm happy that they are your last opponents and not ours.

Wow, had this one as the banana skin and we blew them away. Absolutely superb result. I'm wondering if Huddersfield are starting to wobble - they came agonisingly close to messing up on what I thought was going to be one of their more straightforward fixtures. They still have to play a Millwall team on fire who are also fighting hard for auto. Exeter and Colchester will be tricky games too. Not the kind of games I'd want to go into under pressure to get wins. Huddersfield must now be feeling SFC breathing down their necks - the question is do they have the bottle to hold us off? If Saints can keep on playing like this it may well be a photo finish for 6th place.
-
We were well beaten by them at SMS last season but the team this season is completely different. 3-1 or 2-1 to us.
-
Well this is a business and every player has his price. However the good news is that SFC can now dictate the terms if Wolves want him. Although Lallana is a decent player at this level he could be replaced if needs be. That said I personally hope he stays as I think both club and player would benefit if he remains at SFC.
-
So - we need Brentford to do us a real favour and win on Sat, then we need Millwall to go up there (fighting for an automatic place) and get a win, then we need Colchester to get a draw against them then we need to win all our games............. ...I won't bother to check out the ticket prices at Wembley just yet.

9/1 is very generous, I'd have us at anywhere between 20/1 and 25/1 to get to playoffs. Can't see us winning all our games and even if we did I can't see Huddersfield dropping enough points (but I live in hope). The difference between them and us is that they seem to be able to turn over the lesser teams on the road. It's something we have to improve on next season.
-
If we were to have any chance of playoffs then we had to win all our games - draws or defeats were utterly meaningless to us - it really was a s**t or bust situation. Therefore why play 4-5-1 and have one of the divisions top goalscorers on the bench? I'd rather we went out all guns blazing and lost than playing defensively and scraping a draw. AP is more concerned about not losing than winning and it's that mentality that's sunk any promotion aspirations that we harboured.

...and then there is the infamous quote: 'I liken the situation to that of the Starship Enterprise. The shields are up and the Klingons are shooting at us every time they land a punch they sap our power.' What a muppet.
-
I love Lambert but sorry - there's absolutely no chance of an international call up - he may be able to do it a lg1 level but he would get absolutely nothing out of international defences. That said, I suspect he might be able to do a job for a lower premiership team especially as he takes a mean penalty - he wasn't out of his depth against pompey after all.

I can remember a friend of mine telling me that the KFC in Harlseden served him food through a perspex hatch......mind you that was a good 10 years ago so maybe it's changed.

Thank heavens the JPT journey is over this weekend

Would love to think that they will get another chance to play there at the end of this season -
Martin Samuel, Daily Mail on Coretese: "self serving" and a "buffoon"
Cabrone replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
I don't care what Samuel says, as far as I'm concerned NC saved this club by getting his rich friend to buy us and then went on to persuade him to give us sufficient funds to hire a decent manager and rebuild our team with some good players. We haven't had as good a season as this since arguably the 80s and it's basically down to NC. This ambitious guy is a total breath of fresh air as far as I'm concerned. Long may it continue. Now just enjoy it and stop obsessing over what some irrelevant hack spouts off. Wembley is what you need to focus on. -
Money talks in this game and if the right offer came in then he'd be sold. However I think a winning bid would have to be pretty big (£4M+) and who of all the clubs that might be interested has that kind of cash?
-
Great win today but playoffs are a fanciful idea now I think. Whilst it's still mathematically possible then of course we should go for it but I'd say it's something like a 25-1 shot now as we need at least 2 teams to implode and us to win everything. Looking at our fixtures I can see definite banana skins at Bristol Rovers and Gillingham but that said, we are definitely capable of winning the lot if we have the will to do it. Whatever the final outcome we should attempt to knock everyone over and harden up for 2010-11. I'd also like to praise Ricky Lambert - what an awesome goal machine the guy is. Without his enormous goal power we wouldn't even be talking about the playoffs and we must make sure we have him fit and ready to start in our team next season, the guy is absolutely key to our chances IMO.
-
No, too much to do and too few games to do it in. We just need to pick up as many points as possible and keep on developing the ruthless streak we will need next season for a top 2 place.
-
That would give the new stadium a capacity of around 300k. You could fit the whole population of Southampton in one end and most of the population of Pompey at the other. Now that's what I would call a derby.
-
I hope Leeds go in at half time 3-0 up. Then we score 4 in the 2nd half.
-
Seabourne just stands his ground, nothing wrong with that - it's what I expect a CH to do. TBH if we had been awarded a penalty like this then I'd have considered it a very lucky break for us. Unfortunately the rub of the green was against us this time but we've had our fair share of rubbish decisions too (some absolute Uriah Rennie shockers at SMS spring to mind).
-
Yes, we didn't get the rub of the green on that one as it looks like Seabourne just stands his ground. That said refs are only human and you are always going to get dodgy refereeing decisions - both for and against - that's just the nature of the game. No excuses - we lost - if we had played at 100% the pen would have been an irrelevance.
-
Not acceptable to be turned over by another team that cost tuppence. Playoffs are over and if we don't learn how to get ruthless then we are going to be spending a lot more time in this league than we'd like. Lallana needs some finishing practice too.

Just read that Leeds have signed [sarcasm]my favourite[/sarcasm] player Dickov till the end of the season. Another reason (if I needed another one) to kick their sorry asses when they come to SMS.
