  1. Just looked at the table and I've now got a nosebleed. It's now all about who can put a run together and we should be well capable of doing it (even if we have lots more away games). After these last 2 games confidence must be high and we should fear no-one. No excuses lads, it's in your own hands now.
  2. Anyone who can put a decent run together will win this league and I see no reason why that can't be us. Ricky Lambert is the key, get him back to last season's form and we will be top 2.
  3. Really depends on what we bought with the proceeds. If we sold AoC for circa £5M and got say Papa, Antonio, Austin (or equivalent) and possibly Danns in exchange + signed Chaplow on permanent then I think we'd have a much improved chance of CC football next year. Once out of this league we then get more money which would soften the blow. In a perfect world I'd like to keep him but if he was to go and we replaced him with several decent players I'd be OK with that.
  4. Harsh reality is that £4M + is very good money for a kid who has only played a handful of games in league 1. Please note that I said at least £4M. Also £4M, if spent wisely could all but secure our exit from this division - something that is far from certain at the moment. Then you'd have to factor in the extra revenue from promotion which should go a long way to negating any potential revenue we could get by holding on to the lad. I like AOC, he's been a breath of fresh air in what has otherwise been a fairly disappointing season to date but we are league 1 and if one of the big boys does come knocking he'll go I'm afraid.
  5. Every player has his price and I'd sell at anything north of £4m for the lad. If £10m was offered I'd throw in Pulis as an added bonus.

    Strikers

I was a big BT fan, I thought he was excellent for us. I also think that at 32 he's still got a few miles left in the tank and would pulp this league but I cannot see him coming here. He's far, far too good for league 1 but I'd be delighted if we somehow managed to snare him.
  7. Ricky Lambert is NA's no.1 conundrum, get him to start scoring and we go up the table, NA is a hero and everyone goes home with a big happy grin on their face. If NA can't get big Ricky up and running then we tread water, NA is a zero and all the moaners come out in the virtual world. AP got Ricky scoring and we did well, NA's yardstick has already been set. At this moment in time he hasn't managed it but I'm still hopeful because I like the guy.
  8. Totally agree with him, it should always be an aim to create as many 1st team players from within as possible. Not only is it desirable, I'd say it's essential that we pursue this path as much as possible and serious investment should be made available to development. Of course we will lose the best ones - that's life I'm afraid - but if the club is careful they will get a pile of money for them. That money could then be re-invested into more scouting and youth development. If the conveyor belt is working well there should always be another youngster waiting to fill the gap and go on to become a decent player themselves.
  9. Even more reason to fear the worst. If his body can't cope at 23 then I think it's over for him. Real shame as I rated him.
  10. For me it was 2/10 pre NA and 8/10 post NA. Overall I'd say 6/10. Biggest disappointment? Apart from our **** poor start it has to be RL's relative lack of goals. He was, is and will be the key to this season. If he can get back to last season's form we go up, if not then it's in the balance. Come on Ricky - we need you to start banging them in! Biggest pluses? There are 2 for me..... i) NA as manager. I like the guy and his football vision. Really liked it when he declined Saints till he got some compo for Scunny, shows he has some integrity. ii) AOC, looks to be a real find. I hope we can keep hold of him for a few seasons yet as the lad looks like he could be very good indeed.
  11. That's wierd..............seriously wierd. Made me laugh though.
  12. Indeed, requiring 24 games to make one assist does not make my pulse race. Square passes into safe areas is the easy bit, picking out goal scoring opportunities is much harder. Does anyone have Chaplow's and Hammond's stats as a comparison?
  13. If Brett plays for them I hope he gets a decent reception. Should be a good game and I wouldn't be disappointed with an entertaining loss, something like 4-3.
  14. A fit and motivated BT would tear this division up but I can't see him coming here. Shame about Holmes, I've always rated him as a good crosser but seems his body just isn't up to the rigour of pro football. Time is running out for the lad. That was a good win albeit against lowly opposition, now it's back to the real action.
  15. Sorry, Anders was ordinary (except that Spurs(h) game in the FA cup 3rd round when he was superb). Didn't he go back to Sweden? Was it Gothenburg? I'd have thought he'd have been snapped up by Man U\Barcelona\Milan\Real Madrid going by some of the gushing praise he got on here. Back to Morgan......I can remember someone on here a few months ago describing his performance in the previous game as (and I quote) 'world class'. That gave a me a right good laugh and just about sums the delirious reaction he seems to engender on here. Looking at his stats again: Appearances as starting in the lineup - 72 Goals - 1 Assists - 3 Shots on - 21 Shots off - 38 Hit woodwork - 1 Fouls - 121 Yellow cards - 16 Red - 1 = Very average. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike him - he's an OK league 1 midfielder but that really is it. I guess you'll have your opinion and I'll have mine. It really doesn't amount to a hill of beans as I'm sure NA wouldn't listen to either of us anyway .
  16. The guy is an average lg 1 midfielder, good at square balls in areas that cause no damage and makes the odd useful tackle. He doesn't make defence splitting passes because he can't - if he could he would. Yes folks, this emperor really has no clothes. He really reminds me of Anders Svensson, people always going on about him even though he did next to nothing (can't remember a host of clubs offering him contracts when he left us - they knew he was very mediocre). I bet you if Chaplow made 10 sublime defence splitting passes in a game and Schneiderlin made just 1, people would be banging on about how brilliant Schneiderlin was whilst completely ignoring Chaplow.
  17. Colin Clarke's debut was the most electric for me, he scored for fun that season. A very underrated player IMO. I also witnessed Shearer's debut which was amazing too but for some reason the Colin Clarke performance electrified me more at the time.
  18. The good news is Brighton are a decent outfit so they will come to play rather than defend. That definitely suits us. We will be right up for it and after Saturday's performance we are hitting the straps at just the right time whereas Brighton are stumbling. I can see us putting in a similar type of performance to Huddersfield at home last season - besides which we owe them one anyway. 3 or 4 - 1 to Saints.
  19. Just thinking about the talent the club has nurtured over the years, how about this lineup as a Saints trainee XI: ST: Mike Channon ST: Alan Shearer LM: Gareth Bale CM: Steve Williams CM: MLT RM: Terry Paine LB: Wayne Bridge\Steve Mills CH: Nick Holmes CH: Mark Wright (not technically a trainee but signed very young) RB: Jason Dodd GK: Tim Flowers (not technically a trainee but signed very young) What a team! Goals all over the place. How much would that lot be worth at today's prices?
  20. .....and not the first time (or the last) that Saints have had to let go of some of the best talent in the business. Going back 20 years I just wish we could have held onto Alan Shearer and Rod Wallace for a couple more seasons. What a devastating forward line that was and it would have only got better. If there was a league table of 'clubs that have contributed the most quality players' then I'm confident that Saints would be right up there, to think of the fantastic talent that we have had to let go of over the years...........it's gutting.
  21. Great results and things seem to be going very much like last season...............Oct\Nov was when we finally found our feet after a fairly dodgy first 5-10 games. If this season pans out like last then we'll be there or thereabouts for automatic - and if RL gets back on form we should be aiming for top.
  22. Great 3 points and current record looking good. Just looked at the stats and defensivley we are 3rd stingiest in the league. However attacking wise we are 20th= in the goals scored table (alongside thse free scoring legends Hartlepool and Tranmere) Another striker needed?
  23. I think he's brought in enthusiasm, energy and positivity which have resulted in increased morale and motivation amongst the players. He's also brought in intelligence, the ability to react flexibly to opposition during a game. He's got a good quick passing strategy which is both pleasing to watch and delivers an end result. The players appear to have taken to it fairly quickly. Finally he's got probably the best bunch of players in this league thanks to AP's shrewd signings (APs greatest strength IMO).
  24. Chaplow and Hammond by some distance.
  25. Oct\Nov is often when we have a good run and this year looks to be shaping up that way. I think we'll get at least 15 points out of that lot and may go on to even get a bit more. Huddersfield (a) will be a good litmus test of where we are though I'm sneakily confident of a win.
