  1. I'd personally swap Seaborne for Jaidi and Otsemobor for Thomas (if fit) but otherwise that looks like a great league 1 team. Certainly one that could and should challenge for top 2 next season if we are still in this division.
  2. Tough, tough game but looking on the optimistic side they only just scraped a win at Brighton (maybe the start of a dip in form?) and we should have taken great heart from our performance against PFC (despite losing). We've won there before and there is no reason why we can't do so again. If we could win this one and results go our way elsewhere then maybe that little crack of light called the playoffs may open again..........................????
  3. I think that picking up 9 points from 30 in our first 10 games was what killed us off more than the -10. Overcoming -10 in 46 games was achievable if we'd have had a decent start. 4 points above the relegation places after 28 games is not what I would have expected by now. We need to be picking up a lot more points even if playoffs are out of the frame.
  4. I also think it's too much now. Maybe if they win the next league games on the trot we might get back into contention but I can't see it myself. PS: Great performance today, I thought they did themselves proud.
  5. Unfortunately finances dictate that I won't be there this time. Shame as whenever I've seen the pompey games (home and away) there's always been a bit of extra edge\energy which really adds to the occasion. However local rivalry + a load of distressed PFC knuckle draggers out for one last jaunt in the 'enemy' camp could spell trouble. I hope not.
  6. This wouldn't surprise me atall. I'd imagine that from the perspective of a PFC knuckle dragger if you think this is going to be your last ever match then what better occasion to cause trouble could you have than this one. I hope the police are on their toes this Saturday.
  7. Funny really, with a 7 day stay of execution allowing them to play this weekend the last memory that any Pompey fan may have of their club is getting tonked by Southampton. What a fitting finale for them.
  8. For the first time this season I think the playoffs are too far away now. The team may surprise me but in my heart this particular aspiration is over. By the time we play Norwich the teams above us will have played........ Millwall (+15 points) playing 1 game = 30 played Swindon (+15 points) playing 2 games = 29 played Huddersfield (+12 points) playing 3 games = 30 games played MK Dons (+12 points) playing 1 game = 30 games played Bristol Rovers (+5 points) playing 2 games = 30 games played Brentford (+3 points) playing 1 game = 29 games played Orient (+1 point) playing 1 game = 30 games played Saints = 28 games played Walsall (same points as us) playing 3 games = 30 games played ....which will probably bring an end to our promotion aspirations. Never mind, still been a good season in a lot of ways and we still have the paint pot and FA cup games which have taken on a whole new significance as of today. No excuses next season though.
  9. I don't think you can argue that the 25 game record isn't very impressive, however I'm more interested in the next 3 weeks in league 1. By the time we play Norwich the games played by our immediate rivals in this period will be: Huddersfield (currently 12 points ahead of us, playing 4 games) = 30 games played MK Dons (currently 10 points ahead of us, playing 2 games) = 30 games played Bristol Rovers (currently 5 points ahead of us, playing 4 games) = 30 games played Brentford (currently 1 point ahead of us, playing 2 games) = 29 games played Saints (playing 1 game) = 28 games played Carlisle (currently same points as us, playing 4 games) = 30 games played Walsall (currently 1 point behind us, playing 5 games) = 30 games played Depending on the results of these teams over the next 3 weeks we may either still be in the hunt for a playoff place or out of it completely. Looks like the next 3 weeks could turn out to be the pivotal period for our league campaign.
  10. Playoffs by a mile but don't see why we couldn't have both?
  11. Shame to see him go as he looked promising but chuffed to bits to get Barnard who will give Lambert and Connolly serious competition for places.
  12. I think that we will get close to the play offs but whether we get top 6 is anyones. A big unknown is injuries. With half the season gone its going to be interesting to see how injuries start to affect those teams above us with smaller squads. One thing is for sure - if we do manage to get our noses into that magic top 6 then it will be a hell of an exciting 2nd half of the season. As for the cups, (although I couldn't care less) Wembley has to be a good bet in the paint pot.
  13. Although it looks very tough at the moment things could change quite quickly if we get another winning run back on. However we have very little slack to play with now, consistent wins are a must. IMO we have around a 25% chance of getting into the playoffs at the moment.
  14. For me it's got to be another striker to challenge\cover for Lambert and Connolly, preferably a bit of a bruiser. Although we have arguably the best forward line in the division all it needs is 1 injury and we look vulnerable.
  15. Well, the guy is a natural right back - a position we needed cover for, we got him for nothing and only for 6 months so if he doesn't live up to expectations then it's not much of a loss for us. Very importantly he also has pace, lots of it. You can coach a player to be able to tackle and move forward but you can't coach pace so maybe we have a rough diamond that with a bit of care and attention could become the finished article. For me this signing fits into the category marked 'potentially decent'.
  16. Well if he could produce form like this then he'd be a excellent signing.
  17. I'm hoping we can do it this year via the play offs.
  18. But what would the new hybrid team be called? I just threw saintspompey into an anagram generator and got the following: Meaty Spin Ops FC (boy, would you need a load of spin to get this one through) Papists Money FC (is Herr Liebherr a catholic by any chance?) Passion Empty FC Meany **** Pot FC LOL
  19. Packing the squad full of wage sapping mediocrity is what we had when we got relegated from the prem and then the coke. I'd rather stick with Patterson than buy mediocrity. Surely we can do better than this.
  20. Is he better than what we have? I don't think he is - so why sign him?
  21. We have the better strike force but Leeds definitely have a better defence and midfield IMO. You have to say they have regrouped very well in league 1 having had an even more spectacular fall from grace than us over the last 6-7 odd years. It's a good tight knit team they have there. Unless they lose a substantial number of key players (not going to happen) or have a catastrophic loss of form (can't see it happening) I see them in the top 2 at the season's end. If they can then keep this team together I'd also quite fancy them for a CCL play off spot next season (like Leicester this season). Who knows - they could be knocking on the prem door in 2011. However with their obnoxious mouthy support and dirty history I dislike them just about more than anyone else - including the lot down the road (they just give me a good laugh these days) so I'd be more than happy to see the wheels come off this particular run of theirs.
  22. I'd be happy to see this bubble burst, anything to make the playing field more level and end this utterly tedious procession of league tiles for Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea. Maybe then we'd get back to a much more competitive top division like it was in the 80s when teams like Ipswich, Saints, Norwich and even Watford had a crack at the top spot. Back then the likes of Man U still had an advantage over clubs like Saints BUT it was in proportion to the size of their fan base and was therefore not totally overwhelming. If one of the smaller clubs ran itself very well it always had a chance to successfully compete - now there is no chance whatsoever and top flight football is massively dull as a consequence.
  23. Well done on the win however being as we're not going to win this cup I hope we can get a big gun away in the next round and bow out with our heads held high. Arsenal or Spurs away would do me just fine.
  24. Was there a beer wielding queue behind him?
  25. I'll always remember that game as when our season ended and we started our downward spiral - right down to administration and almost going out of existence. I thought at the time that Redknapp had put a remarkably good team together (despite L**e only giving him something like 90k) and we were doing OK, looking promising for at least a play off spot. However after that defeat confidence went, Redknapp left along with key players like Quashie and the whole season slipped down the pan. Despite the play off season (which never felt particularly sustainable) I think the big slide happened that afternoon and I truly think that its only now that our trajectory is finally starting to curve upwards again. Hopefully tomorrow will be a bit of revenge.
