  1. The noise when Camara scored the 4th was the loudest I've heard at SMS, absolutely electric atmosphere and one of the best home games I've seen. Funny that Norwich would be strong contenders for the best home and away games for me. (midweek cup replay at Carrow Road 1992 - amazing atmosphere that night).
  2. I support what NC is doing to the club but episodes like this make him look like an uptight ass. NC, just let the players go to the dinner and stop behaving like a petty control freak. It's supposed to be a bit of fun for god's sake. PS Those who are slagging off MLT just remember that he kept us in the prem for years when he could have easily clicked his fingers and left. He stuck by us when we needed him and gave me some of my greatest football memories, I just wish some ungrateful fans would remember this before they start their rants.
  3. Why is this such an outrageous article? Seems to me that if someone posts something that the posters don't like they just put their fingers in their ears and dismiss it out of hand. The fact is we are now owned by people who didn't buy us in the first place and as far as I know haven't really showed much interest in us since ML died. We are also an extremely attractive investment to someone with pots of money who fancies buying a football club that has massive potential. I really really hope the Liebherr's stay on at the helm as they have been nothing but good news for SFC but football clubs, just like everything else, have their price and they will sell if offered the correct amount. To dismiss this fact just because you don't like it is childish. PS: Lawrie Mac was our greatest ever manager and just because he did an interview with the Mail pre the Man Unt game it doesn't mean anything. The unsubstanciated slagging he gets on here from certain 'fans' is disgusting.
  4. MoM for me was Chaplow, superb as usual. Why couldn't we hold the ball for the last 5 mins? Just run down the clock. Too many hoofballs to the front men which were hoovered up by Posh and sent straight back to us. Eventually we cracked, what a surprise. This is also going to sound funny being as we got 4 but Lambert and Barnard should have scored more, Lambert spends too much time on the wings for me and I didn't think they looked sharp enough. That said a draw at Pboro is still a reasonable return.
  5. You can forget your 6-0 away day canters........I want to see some mental toughness and this ugly, gritty, hang-on-in-there, hard fought, mentally demanding game last night was just the ticket and possibly the best win of the season for me. Make no mistake, Exeter are a really *****ly, spiky, awkward outfit at home and will take plenty of scalps over the rest of this season. It's credit to them that they have managed to carve out this reputation with such meagre resources available to them. For us to go toe to toe before finally driving the dagger home in the 90th minute is the kind of champion performance that I've been wanting to see for a long, long time and finally shows me that we really can do 'ugly' when we need to. Will last night's result be looked back as the fulcrum around which our season rotates? We'll see.
  6. Decent player when he can be bothered, better than league 1 for sure. Just keep him perpetually on loan and he'll be great, as soon as you make him permanent he'll lose interest and throw a strop. PS: I think you made a good signing with BT, still plenty of goals in the lad yet. Shame we couldn't get him.
  7. Forget the pre match waffle, lets see what old red nose has to say about us after the game. I hope he'll be fuming..........
  8. Just to remind those of you who think that we can't possibly catch Brighton between 13th Nov and the end of Dec their results were: Hartlepool 3 - Brighton 1 Brighton 2 - Bristol Rovers 2 Saints 0 - Brighton 0 Huddersfield 2 - Brighton 1 Brighton 1 - Charlton 1 That's 3 points in 5 games. If they have a similar run again they will be caught. I'm much more concerned with our players who 'gave up' on 3 points last Saturday. They must be strong from now on and fight for every point, not limply wimp out when they come up against another set of players who are up for it. Can they do it, do they have the balls? Well we'll see.
  9. Yes we can catch them and I still think we have a fair chance of doing it - provided we get our heads in the right state. I think Brighton will feel the heat at some point and falter - all it will take is for them to lose a couple and we could be right back in it. My biggest concern is our own players, they must go into every game wanting it more than the opposition and if they do then they have every chance of going on a big winning streak. The big question in my mind is are they mentally strong enough? We simply cannot afford another pathetic performance like Tranmere.
  10. I thought he was a great manager although I do remember him getting moaned at quite a lot at the time. His teams had goals all over the place but they shipped them at an equally high rate, great entertainment. I'd put him 3rd in my best Saints manager list, behind Lawrie and Ted Bates (WGS might have broken into the top 3 but he wasn't around long enough for me). Whatever he does I wish him the best of luck. One of the decent ones.
  11. Absolutely, it's a big plus for us and the reason why the Wallaces, Shearer, LeTiss, Bridge, Walcott, Bale, AoC et al came to us in the first place. OK, so we can't keep them forever but that's life I'm afraid. There will always be a food chain in football and there are bigger fish than us swimming around. The real crime is that the money from these players was spent inefficiently, especially under that idiot Lowe.
  12. The most disappointing thing is that Tranmere won because they wanted it more than us. If we'd have had their hunger then we would have walked away with 3 points. You'd have thought that with our position in the league we'd be raring to go out and give it everything but we didn't. If Saints have pretensions of top 2 then that was not good enough.
  13. Massively, massively overrated IMO. Didn't notice a queue forming for his signature after he left us despite his 'world class' reputation on here.
  14. Colin Clarke - considering the amount of goals he scored I always thought he was underrated by fans. Neil Heaney. Gerry Forest. Andy Townsend - was decent for us but seems to get a bit of stick on here.
  15. We really should be good enough to cope with both with the resources we have at our disposal. Other teams will get injuries too. That said, I think this years cup run will come to an end against Man Unt anyway. Win, lose or draw - I just want to see us come out of the game with our heads held high.
  16. I agree, it's a big bonus for us. Our reputation probably means that talented kids would see SFC as one of the best clubs to start off with. OK, so we lose them eventually but in the process we get to see them develop and then get a pile of cash when they go. I'd imagine Saints would have to be in the top 5 clubs for producing international standard talent. Chivers, Channon, Williams, Wright (got him v.early), Wallace (Rod & Danny), Shearer, Le Tiss, Bridge, Walcott, Bale, AoC.................and then you have a whole load more who have turned out to be decent pros too. Just as an aside I wonder why we seem to have produced some of the finest strikers\attacking midfielders but not too many defenders?
  17. You might be taking the p*ss but even if they had shown us some sympathy when they sent us down I'd still laugh if we kicked them out. The fact that their fans were actually gloating about sending us down that day makes me want to see their asses whipped even more. Roy bloody Keane, what a tosser.
  18. I think County will park the bus so a tight 1-0 for me. Colchester will get at least a draw against Bournemouth so we should go above them. Brighton will get at least a draw against P'boro so we'll still be 2nd though we might be closer to top than now.
  19. I thought we could get a scratchy 1-0 or 2-1 result but 6-0 was not on my radar. Brilliant stuff and a real pleasure to be a Saints fan at the moment. The key for me was\is and will be Ricky Lambert. Keep him on form and we'll get top 2. He may not be our best technical player (that's Lallana for me) but he is the most important. It's no coincidence that the goal tap has really opened since he's rediscovered his form. I really, really hope he gets the chance to play at a higher level (for us of course), he richly deserves it. Also it's going to be really interesting to see how we cope after these results. We will now be seen as the ManU of this league and the opposition are going to park the bus infront of their goal, both home and away. We are definitely good enough to break down even the most stubborn of defences but the other teams are going to make it much tougher to score from now on in. Still, no-one ever said winning a league was easy and Huddersfield\Charlton\Sheff Wed will push us all the way (Brighton will fade to play offs IMO).
  20. He's firmly behind the genius that was Brian Clough and the perenially overlooked Bob Paisley IMO. That's because his European record (considering the size of the club and how long he's been there) is very middling.
  21. Yes, Shearer scored and we won on penalties. I think it was a 4th round game and we went on to play Norwich. I went to the replay at Carrow Road and despite the fact we lost it was one of the most memorable away days I've been to.
  22. I wouldn't hold that against him, Austin played in the lower level Wessex league and look at him now. If NA thinks he's worth a shot then I trust his judgement.
  23. Arsenal\Spuds (a) would have been my top draws but this should be a good one. I think we'll give them a good game this time.
  24. LOL, we must be doing something right.
  25. What a great weekend. AL signs and we beat prem opposition. Top performance and result, especially as I thought Blackpool would nick it. Well done the team. Onwards and upwards.
