  1. Chaplow + Cork for me. If Cork does the defensive duty it should allow Chaplow to go forwards a lot more. Hammond and Schneiderlin kept as backup.
  2. For the large majority of the season that was the only difference between us. Really is about time we improved on our pattern of woeful starts.
  3. I think we should only sign players who are committed to the club. The question is, is he committed? Doesn't sound it to me.
  4. I think it's far too early to be concerned. Cortese will be currently looking at good quality championship\premiership players and being as these are decent players they will probably have several irons in the fire. Duds are easy to buy, we should know - we've bought enough of them down the years. Nothing happens overnight, everyone is dancing around looking for the best deal and this will continue right up to the end of the window. Besides, being as we have a squad that is good enough to perform solidly in the champ I'm not sure why there is so much panic. One thing I do want to see us improve on is our pre-season preparation and our usual rubbish start. It's high time we started a season with a few wins.
  5. Crouch made me eat my words as he turned out to be a brilliant signing. Delgado was the most overhyped flop for me and Anders Svensson was also one of the most overrated players we've ever had.
  6. £3M for Sharp would be too much IMO.
  7. Well I'd rather lose out than have to again go through the kind of torment that we went through just 2 seasons ago. I want promotion but NEVER at the cost of financial instability. If nothing come along then that's life. However there is still plenty of time yet so let's see what the manager and board can come up with.
  8. I would have thought that after the financial mismanagement which almost extinguished this club that supporters would be weary of paying silly money. Seems I was wrong. This is how it works: 1. Posh want OTT money. 2. Saints make low bid. 3. If both parties are still interested then they meet somewhere that is mutually agreeable in the middle. Obviously in this case the two parties could not agree. I'm just glad we have a chairman that doesn't pay OTT knee jerk fees which the club lives to regret - been there, bought the T-shirt. Just trust the guy - he's no mug.
  9. Cortese was absolutely correct making a low bid, good to see that he isn't going to get mugged off by some of the clowns that run clubs in this country (just take a look at football finances if you want confirmation). For example how much are Hull paying for Jimmy Bullard?? Forget about the BS words, it's all about Saints to paying as little as they can and Posh getting as much as they can. That's the dance and Cortese appears to know how to tango.
  10. It certainly did. Instead of hitting the ground running and taking control from an early stage we spent the entire season playing catchup and it wasn't until the 2nd to last game that we finally overcame our usual crap start. The difference between us (got there eventually) and Brighton (won at a canter) was our start. Anyway, what is wrong with wanting a good start for once?
  11. In an ideal world I'd like to see new signings come in early but I think it's more to do with pre season fixtures than new signings. We need a string of fixtures against British teams, gradually increasing in intensity, that will give us the kind of work out that we will face in the Champ. Ideally the aim during these fixtures is to formulate a team for the start of the season, ready to hit the ground running. Last year we had a Swiss jolly playing teams that we'll never face competitively and a half hearted set of fixtures back in the UK with a shifting team. Hardly surprising the start was poor.
  12. Shilton Golac Svensson Wright Dennis Case R. Wallace Le Tisser Williams Bale Ron Davies
  13. Awwwww, poor Arsenal. If they don't like it then may I suggest that they develop their own talent? He'll only go if we get a price that we want and they buy at a price they want. Otherwise it's tough luck.
  14. Just as long as that's not how the table is at the end of the season. Looking at the teams in there makes me realise just how competitive this league is going to be, any one of 13 teams could win it IMO. Really looking forward to it.
  15. Good, being as we developed him we should profit from any future sell on IMO. If the big boys don't like it then tough.
  16. I want to win the champ but I'm not atall bothered about getting back to the prem. I think we're currently in the best league, the prem is a sterile wasteland.

  18. If true then £12M is a great piece of business. OXO for CMS + 3 others of similar calibre would put us in with a great shot of prem football IMO.
  19. Would be a great signing but I'm not holding out too much hope. Would have thought that if he was going anywhere it would be to a prem club.
  20. Somewhere between 6th and 9th.
  21. If he goes just make it quick so we can find replacements sooner rather than later. Just for once I'd like to see us hit the ground running next season. Of course I'd rather not see him go in the first place but if it is to happen then so be it. We'll survive.
  22. Some of the ppl on here have some strange views on NP. When a football club is down at the bottom having been on a negative trajectory all season it's tremendously difficult to get them back on track - yet Pearson managed it in a small spell of games. What he did was an incredible achievement and what did L**e do? That's right - give him the boot. Yet another terrible decision that caused the club to immolate itself.
  23. Man alive, that's tough on Hudders. Soooooooo glad we pipped them to 2nd as I'd have been extremely nervous myself facing CMS+Boyd this afternoon. Wonder what the CMS situation will be now?
  24. United were crushed like a tin can under the boot of Barcelona. Barcelona's defence never really looked troubled, probably because the ball was so rarely at their end. Barcelona's attack was permanently menacing, the fact that they only scored 3 was great credit to Ferdinand, Vidic and Van der Saar who I thought all had outstanding games. However it was the midfield where United were flattened like a pancake. The Barca dominance was almost total. How does anyone beat them?
