  1. Looks like we really have the bit between our teeth now so I could honestly see us winning every game. However, if we win our 3 home games (Rovers, Hartlepool and Walsall) and Plymouth away I think it would be enough. Even if Posh were to win every game they'd only be able to match us (with an inferior goal difference) and Hudders would have to win 4 out of 5 plus win\draw the 5th - too much for them IMO especially considering the places they have yet to play at. Really feeling that we have 1 foot in an auto spot now. Been following this club for 30 odd years and I've never seen us get promotion. Please don't blow it Saints!
  2. Three points would be par for the course IMO so it's got to be the 2 games in hand. Fingers crossed for 3 points against a recently wobbling Orient and a win\draw at the Spotland.
  3. People are saying that Huddersfield have a tough run in but do they? They have: Posh (h) - pretty ropey on the road. Charlton (a) - in mid table mediocrity with nothing to play for. MK Dons (a) - genuinely tough game. Daggers (h) - can only see 3 points from this one Brighton (a) - probably already up and with little left to play. Brentford (h) - mid table, little to play for. I'm not convinced that Huddersfield's run in is a difficult as many on here think so I'd favour a draw followed by a Posh win.
  4. I loved BT when he was here but the club would have to look at the BT circa 2011, not the BT of 2001-2004. Good points: - Whilst he is 33 as long as he's looked after himself he could still have another 3-4 years left in him. That should be enough time to effectively use him in a promotion push back to the prem (assuming we got promoted this season). - He has a strong affinity for the club + a large amount of goodwill from the fans so I'd imagine he'd settle quickly. - I believe that if he could get back to form he'd be a formidable champ striker, maybe something along the lines of Steve Howard at Derby. 15+ goals wouldn't be out of the question IMO. Bad points: - Wages could be a big stumbling clock. - We already have a good striker in a similar mould i.e. Ricky. - How is his fitness? A 33 year old BT that is constantly breaking down would be no good. Overall I'd welcome him back as long as: i) We got promoted. ii) He accepted a 'realistic' wage. iii) The club didn't sign him over a decent younger pacy striker like CMS (who would be my no.1 target).
  5. Looking at those fixtures I've got Huddersfield to get another 12 points so we'll need another 17 points off 9 games or 2 per game. Although we've also got a tough run I think we'll do it. If we could go on a run of straight I still haven't given up on top spot. Would need a big wobble from Brighton now though.
  6. Sounded like a pulsating match and a great win. Love it when we have to win by digging deep, shows a degree of mental strength.
  7. Hughes, Speedie, Groves, Lee, Grobelaar, Dixon, Hurst................. and any other old mercenary that came here to loot the place rather than play.
  8. I'd rather have 3 games in hand............just. If we were at the bottom end of the table I'd plump for 5 points but being as we are trying to get promotion we should have high expectations of getting at least 6 points from 3 games.
  9. I slightly favour our position but only just. It's frustrating having to constantly play catch up though.
  10. I'd take that but my goodness Plymouth would be a real nerve jangler (I'm assuming we'd beat Walsall if we had to).
  11. I also think 20 points should do it. Two points per game over the next 10 games should very doable if you have aspirations to get top 2. The relevant games on the final Saturday are Hudds v Brenford. P'Boro v Dag & Red. Saints v Walsall. I just hope we don't go into that final match having to rely on one of the others to cock up......
  12. Unlike us they know how to consistently turn a narrow lead into 3 points, especially away from home. The difference is mental toughness IMO.
  13. We've lucked out getting Charlton on a low so it's up to us to ram home the advantage. At least 7 points but every chance of bagging 9.
  14. Their negativity is a worry. We all know what we're like when we're expected to win at a canter...............
  15. Agree with most of the above. I'd also like to add Colin Clarke to the list, scored a lot of goals in his time here yet never really got the recognition he deserved IMO + Glenn Cockerill, skillfull midfielder who gave us sterling service in the 80's\90's. Also the addition of Shilton\Wright\Dennis\Mills gave us the meanest defence we've ever had. We got 2nd in 84' because of that defence rather than our goalscoring (how many 1-0's did we get that season?). Other notable names in my time of watching Saints would be Armstrong, Marsden, Case, Pahars, Beattie, Richards, Svensson (killer - not the other one), Niemi, Crouch.
  16. Bruce Grobbelaar. 1) On a last big payday jolly. 2) Only made an effort when receiving money that wasn't from the club. 3) Crap moustache.
  17. My gut feeling is the teams around us have had purple patches and are due a wobble. We, on the other hand have been bumping along and are due a pick up in form. Don't forget about injuries too. Huddersfield have already lost one of their main players, which other key players are going to get injured between now and the end of the season? Who has the best squad to cope? Still confident of top 2 but I do wish we could play those catch up games sooner rather than later as our (points behind & games in hand) position is a psychological burden IMO.
  18. Great result although I always fancied our chances in this one. Everyone maybe talking about Huddersfield and Posh but keep an eye on Orient, unbeaten in 13 games now and only 5 points behind us if they win their game in hand. 8 more wins to get auto place IMO - should be very doable now.
  19. We'll see. Your last home game was a very close run thing and last night it was an own goal that gave you the points. IMO you're not quite as untouchable as many on here think you are. To be within 6 points of BHA with 4 games to go we'll need to gain 4 points on you over the next 9 games. Not easy but we should be capable of at least keeping up the current points rate and then it's a question of whether you drop form. As the pressure builds can Brighton maintain this form? My main concern is (as always) our mental strength - do we have the wherewithall to keep our heads and grind out the results? We can't afford any more P'boro (a) & Walsall (a) aimless hoofball performances. My gut feeling is we're due a pick up in form, you're due a wobble and it's still very much game on.
  20. Brighton's last 4 games - Saints(h), Colchester (a), Huddersfield (h), Notts Co (a) - look tricky to me. If we can get within 6 points of them coming up to those last 4 games I still think we can pip them.
  21. Also if you add in Reading, Bristol City, Palace(?), Millwall, Watford and maybe West Ham there should be plenty of easy-to-reach away days (IF we get promoted).
  22. Yeovil will give us a tough test but if we show some mental strength by keeping our heads and put on a professional display I can only see one outcome. 2-0 or 3-1 to us.
  23. Relieved at getting a result at a tricky place like Colchester esp as most of those around us won. Still confident that we'll catch Bournemouth as our 2 games in hand are both home games. Brighton are looking more remote but they still have some tough games + they must play us so it's very much still all to play for. Maybe the stinging sensation that was Tuesday night has sunk through to the players and we'll be a lot mentally tougher from here on in. No more headless chicken displays please guys.
  24. We seem to lack the mental toughness needed to get to top 2 at the moment. Also Ricky Lambert hasn't found consistent form all season and that's seriously affected us. I agree with Alpine's comment that when we come up against a team that backs off us we murder them but when we come up against a team that wants to give us a fight we flounder. We need to find the mental grit to dig in and grind out consistent results, when we did it at Exeter I was really hopeful that we'd turned a corner but with this last result it seems we've we've fallen again. I can only hope that the Walsall result will have mentally kicked the players right in the guts and made them understand that they are in a real dogfight. Toughen up Saints!
  25. Sounds like we were pretty unlucky last night so you just have to chalk it down as one of those things. Hopefully this kick in the knackers will increase their hunger and spur them to go on a big winning run.
