  1. 3 of us going and looking forward to it.
  2. Best wishes to Dan, this is horrific and he doesn't seem the sort of player to be giving it the big "I am" either. London Road from memory is covered by CCTV so if someone has done something stupid they are going to find it difficult to cover their tracks if an incident has occured on the pavement outside the club. About time the political parties, licencees and the other authorities got together, put their differences aside and started taking serious measures to curb the alcohol-fuelled anti-social behaviour that seems to blight the city. I'm only 33 but you would not find me out in Southampton City Centre after 8pm at night, it's too unsafe. Don't get me wrong, I'm a CAMRA member and like a beer but action needs to be taken. Poor journalism by the Echo but then when has it been any different?
  3. They are two that are well down the pecking order at their clubs and the latter was loaned to Norwich last season. Eccleston is another but I can't remember him really going great guns at Charlton although this was prior to Powell completely overhauling their entire squad. Peterborough, Hull and Carlisle seem to have first call on Man U's top youngsters. Harry Kane at Spurs could be on although it means dealing with Saggy but then he likes our Nigel. City let their fringe strikers out over the last 48 hours.
  4. What about if Barnard ends up in jail? With Connolly's injury record, as brilliant as he is when fit, I'd say the chances of us getting a striker loan are very high. Jackson at Norwich and Pacheco at Liverpool (if some hasn't already nabbed him) would seem the obvious choices.
  5. That might cheer some of the other posters up. Punch must been on a fair wage and he clearly was miles out of favour. Can't see how he's going to compete with SWP for a place though!
  6. Proud of them, still playing great football, in the overall evolution of the side it is time for Fox and De Ridder to come in for Harding and Guly, despite today's welcome goal from Harding. I'm sure NA will get a new centre half in before the next league game. Nice to see we've gone up a division and the refs have actually got WORSE. How that is never a foul on Lambert I will never know, ref deserves to banned/fined for that. Bar about half-a-dozen of them in England, they should largely be sacked and replaced with ex-pros from the lower divisions/Scandinavian officials until they can use their common sense and put their egos away.
  7. Not over-fussed on this deal - if he's not quick I'd rather stick with Barnard. Not sure if Baldock will work out at WHU but if Waghorn is the best available, let's wait until Jan and spend the money on a top quality CB for now instead.
  8. Colin's book was interesting but this is utter tosh from him. He's a hypocrite: 1) Gorkss was one of his key players that got him up so just dumps him without a chance 2) Has messed around on Puncheon and doesn't care about a player that is clearly out of favour with Adkins 3) QPR have just been promoted to Premier League and £1m for someone who did well on loan at that level shouldn't be an issue. Unless of course you are a tinpot club and a tinpot manager. Perhaps we should give Wally Downes, Gary Megson and Stan Ternant free tickets next time we play a Neil Warnock side at home....
  9. Probably for the best this one fell through as you've only got to search down the right-hand side of yesterday's BBC Sport articles to see that the references to ankle problems appear frequently. Feel sorry for the player though. Surprised at NA, he usually does his homework on these things. I think someone on the Gorkss thread had it right there, Reading won't mean moving his family and also it might be that NA really wanted him if it was a part-ex deal to offload Puncheon but as an individual target he may not have been a number one target although on the shortlist. Let's see what NA and NC come up with before 31 Aug.
  10. If people think this guy is bad value, remember we paid £1.2m for Wayne Thomas! The ankle injury is a concern if it is a recurring problem, hopefully the medical will flush it out one way or another. He seems to have pace, which we needed and may have stagnated a bit at Bristol but a new environment and a bright manager (that's no disrespect to Keith Millen) might give him a new lease of life. If we get 150-200 games out of him, that represents decent VFM in this inflated market and doesn't eat into much of the AOC cash. Striker with blistering pace next please....
  11. If you look at how previous windfalls have been squandered by buying large quantities of average players that we've had to pay to get rid of, maybe NC and NA want to do things differently - 2 higher quality signings and then leave a bit spare. With respect to Dave Jones, who was otherwise excellent in the transfer market, look at the crud we wasted the Davies money on - Ripley, Hughes (was decent at DM but not what he was signed for), Marshall etc. Beattie turned to be an inspired signing but one out of six or seven isn't good. That said, Beattie's arrival still made it more successful than the waste of the Theo money by Burley. In fact, Burley wasted it so badly that we sold Jones and Bale and it still didn't make a dent in the debts that had wracked up! So if NC and NA are taking the time before 31 August to get players that they want, that fit the existing group, that can play in the NPC as leading stars now but can also make the step up, then good on them. Just wish previous regimes - going back to Branfoot's waste of the Shearer/Flowers monies - had done the same!
  12. Their history and one recent tainted FA Cup is all they have to lift them from a stadium falling apart and unstable ownership. They bang on about the great teams from the 1940s but Preston and Blackpool had greater teams more recently than that, even Bolton but their fans don't claim to be bigger than Man City! Frankly, who outside of Hampshire cares anyway? We've just got to keep on winning games and be around the top 6 and we'll have a good season, what the skates do is irrelevant.
  13. They might see Frazer as a decent stop gap though until Jack Stephens is ready. We do definately need a much pacier striker, Saturday proved it, as a different outlet and from the sounds of it post-QPR takeover Gorkss may finally be joining. Hope his head is right though, must be a bit cruel having worked so hard to reach the PL all your career and then a takeover causes an influx of players and blocks your big chance.
  14. I hope none of our law-abiding fans got caught up in it, I'd have been petrified, like the vast majority of fans I go to football matches to watch the game only and have never had any time for violence whatsoever. The club should know better but I'm really cross with the police, how can they go to the lengths (which were justified as it turns out) they did for the Pompey Cup game and yet - allegedly if posters on here that saw the trouble are correct - not take appropriate steps at full time, the first of which should have been to keep Millwall in?
  15. This is very likely to be true sadly. Down here in the South West they have been out in seemingly much larger numbers in the major towns recently desperate for it to kick off. I grew up respecting the cops like majority of the public but frankly I thought I'd never see the day where the police completely lost the respect of the public but that's what a combination of the riots, the phone hacking corruption and alleged bribes from the press to the Met and finally contrived incidents like today have done. I walk the opposite way as I park the other side of the Itchen Bridge but it was stunningly obvious during the game that Millwall were going to kick off afterwards and one can only assume that the cops have facilitated a confrontation to ringfence their resources from cuts.
  16. I wouldn't loan him out, he's improved since he joined from Exeter the January before last (bear in mind that he started his career with them in the BSP) and he's left footed, which is why clubs want him. Don't get me wrong, I love what Jaidi did for us in League One but I'd have offered him a coaching deal. Seaborne and Martin would be excellent back ups who are learning their trade under a quality coaching team for a new signing at CB.
  17. Phil Brown was crazy to give him a 5 year deal at Hull, Fulham didn't offer him a longer deal due to his knee problems - I think there was even a direct quote from Roy Hodgson so Hull were warned. CM is an area of the pitch where we are seriously strong anyway, we need a CB and a pacy striker and it seems NA and NC are on the case. I've got a feeling QPR might offer him a pay-as-you-play. After all, Keiron Dyer will need a buddy for the physio's room!
  18. I don't think they should be booed though, maybe a cheeky taunt like that but I'd much rather we'd had the £12m for AOC than the skates who don't deserve it after swindling the taxpayer and local businesses so badly. We also got good money for Theo who could have gone earlier for far less, not his fault Wilde and Burley wasted the proceeds. I still think Walcott is too young to have written a book though. A good one I read recently was Steve Hodge's - the Man who Got Maradona's shirt. Self-effacing but interesting. Mel Sterland's book is gritty and although I don't like the bloke, Neil Warnock's was a good read with plenty of spice. Agree with whoever said Cloughie's is the best though. Sports books generally are more interesting when a player has finished the bulk of their career, a current international cricketer like Andrew Strauss has to toe the party line really.
  19. So Saints could get some compensation from the end of his contract. With Morgan signing a new deal and Cork being a top target once promotion was secured Gobern's prospects weren't looking good. He's gone to a good club in Huddersfield, hope he and them do well this year.
  20. Definate red card and whilst I like Chaplow, he has to be careful that he doesn't waste his talent as Prutton did when red mist descends. Michael Brown, for example, has to resort to being an animal as he lost any pace or ability he had three years ago. As we saw from Gobern's stupidity last season, Adkins will only tolerate that sort of thing for so long.
  21. Gooners won't be happy though if Fabregas and Nasri go to be replaced by a promising 18 year old that has only played a season in the third division! Moreover, they still can't seem to get the other youngster (Theo) that they bought from us fit for any more than about 4 games in a row. If this is true, we can re-invest and really push for the play offs if the fee from Arsenal is right. Doubt if Cortese will do business if it isn't.
  22. Same here. Let's get Maynard or Rodriguez in plus a partner for Fonte in and really aim top 6. This is the same drip-drip speculation we had with Theo and I don't want to see the clear team unity displayed on Saturday disrupted by Alex's team of "advisers" after their big pay day. Although Ox-C has been a good distraction from anyone noticing Lallana's rapid development into a top drawer player!
  23. Excellent performance, very good from the rest and outstanding from Lallana, Fonte, Connolly, Cork and Hammond. Michael Brown was left hacking at shadows and subbed before he was red carded, good tantrum when subbed too. Leeds fans seemed to think Snodgrass is Carrow Road bound and certainly he looked a lot less interested than Max Gradel who in spite of his temper tantrums was their best player along with Howson. Chamberlain would have been concerned watching that, if De Ridder adapts quickly to this league then I'm honestly not sure Chamberlain is going to get in the first XI unless Lallana and/or De Ridder are injured. Martin did very well but still urgent need for a CB. Good gate and a good atmosphere, loved some of the songs. Combined with Hants T20 success yesterday it was the ideal weekend of sport! Hope the rumours about Jay Rodriguez, very highly rated by the Burnley fans I know and would really put this team firmly in the play off picture, not sure about another left back though, Harding is good enough. Sad news about Billy Sharp, some of the challenges in the highlights of that game, including Doncaster's Naylor (living up to his name) as well as Brighton's Dunk, were disgraceful.
  24. - First win V Charlton - Simon Brown's shot hitting the inside of the post and rolling back across the line! - Riise's bizarre own goal v Liverpool 2001/2. Is that the most odd goal scored at SMS thus far? - 3-2 win over Arsenal, Delgado even scored! - 4-2 comeback win over Fulham on the windiest ever day at SMS - 4-0 FA Cup demolition of Spurs and it should be have been a few more as well. Best display by Saints since the 6-3 win over Man U - 2-0 Wolves FA Cup Q-F - 2-0 Carling Cup win over Skates, electric atmosphere - 3-0 win over Skates, Marion's brilliant goal - 4-3 Norwich, the deafening noise after Camara's goal - 2-0 win over Coventry 2006/7, Bale's free kick - 3-2 Sheff Utd - Walsall home last season Best goals against us would have to be Venus's blockbuster 30 yarder for Ipswich in 2001/2, Tugay's monster for Blackburn, Marcus Bent's control and volley (although it still makes me sick even now). For us, I was in Barbados for the Test match and had lent my Dad my ST when I was in a bar and Delap's overhead kick came on Fox Sports - wow! Oakley's MLT flick up and volley free kick V Hull never gets discussed on here for some reason and of course who could forget his stunner Vs the Skates which almost broke the net. Fernandes hit a scorching free kick V West Ham. More recently, Rickie and Harding scored two beauties V Tranmere last season and Connolly v Norwich. Best of the lot has to be Marion Vs the Skates though!
  25. Stearman would be quality and may be an option if the daft quota system on work permits denies Jemal. The Exeter fans had mixed views on Dan, some rated him and others thought he was clumsy and seemed to pick him a lot of yellow cards. He got booed a bit when he came on as a sub vs them at Exeter last season. I can see a good player there with some development and coaching but we'd need to persevere with him through a few mistakes and I'm not sure if the club are patient enough to do that. The fans certainly aren't!
