  1. Is Clyne the most underated right-back in the league? Seems like the "nearly man" at the moment. Just below the radar.
  2. Gees. Thank feck I have Turkish on ignore. Please stop quoting him. People who think they are (a) funny and (b) clever and are, in fact, © neither are so damned boring. For me, it's a close call between the Norris goal for the skates and the Pires goal at Cardiff. The former was damned annoying. The latter killed my mental dream that I'd see us win the Cup. Also, looking back...it was all down hill - for several years - after losing at the Millenium.
  3. Please don't lock this thread. It's made my day. Also, LOOK AT ME. PLEASE...PLEASE LOOK AT ME!!!! Thanks.
  4. Micah Hall ‏@engagePompey 16 Nov Thanks to all with positive feedback on the beamback, really appreciated! Reply Retweet Favorite Expand [*] harvey sinden ‏@HsindenPFC 16 Nov @engagePompey Micah did you break even on the beam back, I went Reply Retweet Favorite Expand [*] Micah Hall ‏@engagePompey 16 Nov @HsindenPFC thanks for going - hopefully by the time all the takings are in we will have broken even yes.
  5. Agree with those who say "drop the oldies". Lampard, Gerrard and Cole would not be in my squad. They'd be in my team if I had to win a one-off match for my life, but - as others have said - we aren't going to win in Brazil. We'd be lucky to get out of the group stages, so may as well blood the youngsters. As far as Saints players go, I'd take Lallana and Clyne. I'd probably take Lambert because we are so weak on centre-forwards. I might take Shaw. I wouldn't take Rodriguez. I'd also rather have Schneiderlin than Carrick and Fonte than Cahiill, but that argument has been done to death elsewhere.
  6. Don't get the question really. Well, I don't get the "as it stands" part of it. We either have a better team than England or we don't. I'm not expecting either the England or the Southampton squad to change greatly in the immediate future. So, the question will probably be stood in about the same place in a few weeks and even a few months time. "As it stands" there are 3 players who play for Saints and for England, which rather complicates matters, I guess. Assuming these players could be replicated and be in both squads, I think Saints would just edge it.
  7. If the choice was "keep Puncheon" or "let Puncheon" go, surely the former is preferable. My disappointment was I assumed his departure was to pave the way for some amazing new signing, but that was probably just me being greedy.
  8. I'd rather we stuck with Southampton FC as our official name. But I'd prefer our abbreviation to be "Saints" rather than "Soton" in league tables or on scoreboards etc (if Southampton has too many letters in it). Wolverhampton and Tottenham seem to manage this, they aren't abbreviated to Wampton or Totham, but rather to Wolves and Spurs. Much classier.
  9. This. I just suggested we should consider this a double "must win" on the other thread ;-) For the optimistic gamblers amongst you, I'd suggest - rather than betting on Saints to win at Arsenal at 6/1 - backing Saints at 250/1 to win the league. Were we to win at the Emirates, this price would probably fall to 40/1 or 33/1 very fast on panic buying. Were we to draw, it would probably fall to 100/1 or maybe 80/1. You could then choose to lay off the bet on betfair. Have been trying to track down Glasgow Saint - is he still offering 500/1 on 1st place and 350/1 on being runners-up? If he is, put down as much cash as (a) you can reasonably lose and (b) you think he can reasonably be expected to pay out. Current title odds here (as I type, fewer and fewer bookies are offering better than 150/1 on Saints) http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/premier-league/winner
  10. Lose this one and a relegation scrap beckons. As some of the Arsenal fans are saying, it's a "must win" match. If that's true for them, it must be doubly true for us (as we are already 3 points behind them...and to fall six points behind might be tough to overcome in our remaining 26 matches). Must, must win.
  11. It's getting absurd now. Has Cortese actually bought up the entire British press in order to not have to bother with PR officers? It'll probably turn nasty when we lose 3-0 to Chile with the Saints players scoring 4/10 or less...:-)
  12. I'd settle for holding what we have. More ambitiously though, cover for centre back and left back and maybe an upgrade on Puncheon. Banega in (and maybe Ramirez out) would work for me.
  13. Herbie Taylor is a legend of a Saints fan. What a loyal fan, totally top bloke and highly intelligent bloke.
  14. Being press officer for Southampton FC must be the easiest spin doctor job in the world right now!
  15. Thank God it's just a massive four games. I was waiting for someone to chirp up that Emirates away is a "must win"! :-)
  16. Always seems possible to get tickets in corporate....ok, pricey (£100+VAT at least, I think), but if you're flying over especially, why not splash out if you can?
  17. Really expect Arsenal to win this - but the 6/1 available on Saints is very tempting.
  18. The team is doing so well on the pitch that it's easy to forgive/overlook stuff that's off the pitch. In general terms, the ticket office seems to be a pretty appalling shambles. Don't quite get why it isn't simply sorted out - it's not rocket science, really.
  19. Any reason why not? Property is a pretty good investment at the moment and I'm not sure why a house in Hampshire would be a bad investment - especially as you have the benefit of living in it (for the time being at least)
  20. Way more than five.... Burley was the ideal manager to get us promoted. Having just gone up from League One, we'd be lucky to finish in the top half of the Championship. NC was wrong to sack Pardew and wrong to sack Adkins Gaston Ramirez would turn into our best player ever Rudi Skacel would turn into one of our best ever players We'd walk the Championship in 2005/6 I'd probably never see Saints win at Wembley in my lifetime Moving to St Mary's was a mistake, because although the Dell was just a bit too small, we'd only ever attract crowds of 17,000-19,000 We'd almost certainly be relegated in our first season back in the top flight (only started to change my mind after we beat QPR away) Yoshida would replace Fonte as a first chocie centre back this season The list goes on and on...
  21. Can't remember which thread I asked for £100 on 1st at 500/1 and 2nd at 350/1...still up for that? By the way, you don't necessarily make "nothing back". If you put £10 on Saints to win the League at the start of the season, you could now sell that betting slip for about an £80 profit. (alternatively use betfair to back and lay your bets)
  22. We're not really in the title race. We're at 250/1 to win the league, which is probably about right - i.e. the same sort of chance that the Liberal Democrats have of winning the next general election outright. Am starting to think top six might be possible though. And I'd say we're heavily odds on to finish in the top half now.
  23. What do she do particularly well? I guess not noticing the officials is usually a good sign. But did she have any tough decisions to make?
  24. Deal. Can I have £100 on each of those, please?
  25. Looked great for 15 mins, especially as he's just back from injury. Could be superb for us over the long run.
