Saints reject bid from Cardiff for José Fonte
Minsk replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Yes, because I am sure everyone at Cardiff knows how all our contract negotiations are going........ -
Shouldn't you be preparing for tonight's quarter final rather than worrying about something that will never happen?
-
Where does it say Fonte is 'disgruntled'?
-
What is with Scousers at the moment? Now waiting for Liverpool to make a bid for the interviewer! P.S. Good luck to both players, but I will be surprised if either steps up this season.

Welcome Feyenoorder, and many thanks for your input. The bit I have put in bold is especially nice to hear. I was expecting Pelle to be more Andy Carrol than Ricky Lambert; but this would indicate otherwise. Your comments on Tadic are also a positive sign. And, I agree that it is a shame that rich clubs hoover up young talent effectively stopping, or slowing, their development. That is why I was desperately hoping Shaw would stay with us for at least one more season.

Good job Trousers!!

It's a tough one at the moment, as we have no idea what our starting 11 will look like come August 16th. The captain should be the first name on the team sheet, a regular starter whenever they are fit. They should also have great leadership abilities and have the respect of their team-mates. I agree that both Steven Davis and Jose Fonte have the aptitude for the job, as have Jack Cork and probably even JWP, but I am not sure any of those will be guaranteed starters this coming season. IF Morgan stays, he would fit the bill; but I would prefer to wait and see how the squad looks in early August before going firm with that.

I see even Sepp Blatter is now having a pop at Saints. During some speech in Brazil he suddenly started singing, 'Oh when the Saints, go marching in,' to then add, ''No they're not, they're finished, it's over.' (Or words to that effect.) So come on, own up - which one of you is Blatter in disguise?

Getting both would make my summer!!

Lallana completes move to LFC for a fee of around £25m
Minsk replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
I sincerely doubt the club has received anything close to 25m. Bournemouth get 25% and have received 4m; that tells me we got 12m - and almost certainly that will be in instalments over the next 3 years! The rest of the 'in the region of 25m undisclosed fee' will probably be add-ons based on appearances, goals, Liverpool winning PL and CL, England winning WC with AL in the squad, etc. I can fully understand a 26 year old wanting to move to a bigger club on much bigger wages, it is how he has gone about it that riles. Also, his comment about wanting to play for them last season and how he was caught up in the end of season run-in makes one wonder how much effort he put into our home match against them.... -

Excellent prose Bear -
Good post

Fine him a month's wages if he's not at Staplewood first thing in the morning.

How can people possibly be upset that Sammy Lee is coming to work with our academy? He is far more experienced than Dodd and Williams.

[Daily Mail] Saints make formal enquiry to sign Danny Ings
Minsk replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
4m for current England international who has scored 15 goals in each of last 2 prem seasons 8m for unproven player who did okay in championship last season -
35m (initial pot) + 2m (MoPo buyout) + 4m (Rickie) + 30m (Luke Shaw) = 71m + Possibility of around another 20m coming in from sale of Lallana or Lovren
-
They are paying 30m for the fact that he will BECOME their first choice LB for many years to come. If he were to 'rotate' with Evra next season he wouldn't get anywhere near 30 games. They are not in any European competition. So it's just league and domestic cup matches. If he were being signed to be the immediate first choice LB why sign Evra up for another year? Personally, I will be amazed if Evra doesn't start Utd's first match next season - unless he is injured.
-
I think you mean Athletico Madrid. Madrid/Milan easy mistake to make.
-
Musa had a good game against the Argies, bagging a brace. Shaqiri scored a great first and decent second against Honduras.
-
So it was the fault of the managers, not the number of players they signed? Or were the managers sacked because they signed so many players? Surely the boards had to sanction the signings?
-
This. I was concerned about Fonte at the beginning of last season but towards the end he was the better of the two CBs, in my opinion.
-
One finished above us, the other knocked us out of both cups. Your point is?
-
Excellent prose as always rb.
