If we'd beaten Wigan, Newcastle and QPR and lost the 3 we won we'd have the same points but be in a much better position in terms of safety. Yes or no?

If we'd have beaten QPR they'd be as a good as down and we'd be 7 points clear of the relegation zone, so arguably yes, it was a six pointer as they are only a two game swing from being out of the drop zone. Wigan away was a another six pointer. 1 point out of 9 against our fellow strugglers is hardly amazing stuff.
