I think it's utterly pointless. All it does is let selling clubs know how much we have to spend and lets our real targets know that they aren't our first choice. Leicester are saying Billy Sharp is theres, but Billy might now think we want this other fella first and he isn't our number one target, ie Leicester want him more.

A lot of our crowd get on Gulys back and dont rate him, yet the stats show him to be as good as Sharp and better than Maynard, players people are getting hardons over signing and who most of us would pick ahead of Guly. You know a good player and you know a bad player if you've got half an ounce of football knowledge.

Well there is because it costs time and money. It's not like FM you know where you just stick a bid on the computer and wait for it to be accepted or rejected. Bids have to be prepared, checked by lawyers, agents spoken to and dealt with before you've even spoken to the player. If we are d*cking about making bids for players we have no chance of signing you have to question why. And it sends out the message to our ACTUAL targets that they are second or third choice and we want them because we couldn't get someone else. Not forgetting other clubs knowing we have at least £8m to spend. It's a pointless and foolish thing to do. Especially when clubs like Man United want him.

Do you not think that would be a very odd thing to do? To try and sign a player that we have no chance of signing to indicate that we might be able to sign a player like this in the future?

We'll need to get SISA and the Saints trust involved to put their weight behind it.

If we dont sign him it will simply show our lack of ambition and inability to compete in the transfer market.

Stats tell you nothing about a players mentality, fitness, ability to adapt to a style, work rate. All of these things are equally important at this level. I find it hilarious that so many people think a player has a set level of ability usually based on stats. Obviously some players are just sh*t and not up to it. Here are some more stats for you Wayne Henessy has made 81 saves more than any goalkeeper. In that case he's got to be better than Joe Hart in that case right? Faurlin has made 74 tackles, more than any other defender. in that case he's got to be better than Phil Jones, Rio Ferdinand, Vidic etc right? Willams at Swansea is the third highest passer. He's got to be better than Nasri, Silva, etc right? Ba is the second highest scorer with a 31% goal to shot ratio, give me him over Rooney, Aguearo, Balotelli, Van Persie etc right?

People pay far too much attention to stats FFS. The only ones that really matter are points, goal scored and goals conceded. That's the trouble with having a Football manager generation of fans.

BUT BUT BUT.(*stamps feet*) We are only potentially only two seasons away from the champions league. What about Corteses vision? What about the brilliant academy? What about the potential crowds of 50,000? What about the catchment area? What about the shopping in West Quay for his wife to enjoy? What about Highfield and Portswood schools being so great for his kids? What about being able to go for cream teas and strolls in the new Forest on sundays? What about being near the sea and an airport? What about being able to scrap with locals in village pubs if he wants to? It's not just about money and wanting to play for the biggest clubs in the world you know.
