Honestly can't see how anyone would think that's not a red. In other news ...

Given that our last game is home to city where we'll be annihilated why don't we all boycott that game. We'll either be safe or not by then (and if it's in the balance will lose anyway) so an empty stadium at home to the newly crowned champions would be a decent message? And it won't effect our season at all. Just a thought. If we all agree we can spend the next couple of months supporting our team (who probably don't deserve it) safe in the knowledge our protest is organised and sorted?

Les announcing that we haven't reinvested the vvd money from left to right 1) damn, I could have pocketed that money 2) brilliant, that's a third of my debt sorted 3) when am I getting my inheritance 4) just heard that you can get relegated. That doesn't happen in ice hockey. Most confused.

I do take your point, but when we next go out at burnley I'd rather have players who have a game in their legs and some confidence. If they're rested the last footballing experience will be 2 weeks old and one of the most abject 45 minutes of football in living memory. You're right in that the distraction is not now, but later on. So play the first team now and let the reserves lose 8-0 to city in the 6th round (or whatever). And the Bournemouth analogy isn't great in that they rested players due to fixture congestion which we don't have now, but might have later on. Again, play the reserves when fixtures start building up, but not now when we need a confidence boost. All IMHO of course.

Don't get me wrong, think we're a very good bet to go down with this manager. But palace have an awful run of fixtures, as do Brighton to a lesser extent. Stokes fixtures are really not good and I think you overrate lambert. He's had a mini bounce effect but I think they're dire. Don't see Huddersfield picking up too many more points and in terms of playing personnel, Swansea and Newcastle are lacking. Watford and Bournemouth have probably done enough, and I think West Ham have enough winnable games to survive, but it's too close to call. At this stage I'd predict Stoke and west brom to go, with any one from us, palace, Brighton or Huddersfield.
-
I wouldn't say that accurate. Whether we get enough points to survive is questionable but I think we'll have a good few more than that prediction. And I think being a London paper they're being very optimistic for palace. Can't see how Stoke will survive personally. It will be tight and each week will mean a rethink due to unforeseen results (Newcastle last week for example). But a draw at burnley (worst form in league) and a win v Stoke which are both achievable could see us up to about 13th in a couple of weeks time. I for one think predicting the bottom 3 even from this close to the end of the season is nigh on impossible.
-
We haven't got another game for a week so don't understand why you'd possibly put the reserves out. Surely be better to play full team, win and gain some confidence? Play on the front foot, attack, and show the manager the benefit of not playing defensively to not get beat. I might have a sims or hesketh on the bench, but would go for as strong a starting 11 as possible.

There are two things that worry me after this weekends games (and swanseas previous couple of results). I don't think we'll get much more than about 36 points, but was comforted by the fact that there's so much dross in the league the target was looking like being about 33 for safety this season. After those recent results that target is creeping up. The other things that worries me is obvious .... while there maybe three (probably more) teams worse than us, I can't think of a single manager worse than ours. Saturday was a great and much needed result, but I'm not suddenly filled with confidence in him after one good performance. Hoping to be proved wrong, obviously. And if we can get another win against the dippers that would be all the better.
-
Fair play to Watford, thoroughly deserved it. If they play anything like that in the rest of the season they're safe.
-
Chelsea not doing us any favours of late ... Not seen enough of bakayoko to comment on his usual standard, but that performance was the definition of having an absolute mare. Seriously, 0 out of 10.
-
Actually, we got 1.5 seasons out of vvd. Second half last year he was injured, first half this year he was behaving like a d1ck. All three acted very poorly IMHO but because of the impact it's had on this season, I think vvd is probably the most damaging. But as others have said, I can't hate them, life's too short, just enjoy it when it goes wrong for them.

One other question from me, I see Alfie Jones' contract is up in June. Wasn't he meant to be the next big prospect? Anyone know if it's our choice, his choice or just ongoing negotiations? Can imagine he'd have doubts about the pathway having bought bednarek, but maybe we bought him because we knew Jones would be off? Pure speculation on my part.
-
Trouble is, who amongst our squad would be wanted for decent money? Forsters on a fortune, classie can't seem to get in a team in belguim, reed isn't playing regularly, neither seager. Barnes injured. Think we might see a few go on free transfers or out on loan next season. If we survive, that is ...
-
Firstly, thanks for all your work on this. Secondly, agreed, but we also need to sell a few. If my maths is right, including all of the players out on loan (but not sims who I think will be under 21 next season) we'll have 30 senior pros on our books come the end of the season. I'd imagine Taylor, gardos and pied will get released, but given that we will be needing at the very least a right back, centre back and winger, that's a lot of players we need to shift on.
-
Frustrated, bewildered, flabbergasted .... But my overriding emotion is feeling a little bit sad. Sad that we're going to get relegated. Mope is clueless but had no support from the board in the transfer market, but then too much support for his clueless tactics. Les has been a significant part of our rise, but has overseen two hopeless managerial appointments and three atrocious transfer windows. The fans have been served dross for 18 months. The players don't get supported properly because the fans are bored / frustrated, and seem confused by what they're being asked to do, so some aren't making the effort and others are just frustrated. And we got sold to someone of questionable past and questionable intentions who's never actually spoken to anyone as far as I can work out. Oh, and we have Krueger. It really is a depressing mix. I love saints, but to see it in this sorry state does make me feel sad.

Wish I could - am normally quite positive about us, but woke up this morning and immediately thought 'if we don't sign anyone today and lose, it'll be one of the worst moments as a saints fan in many years and mean we're going down'. Then realised this is a very pessimistic view. An optimist would be thinking '3 points and a signing or two - happy days'. This obviously means I've become a pessimist, so why?? Awful manager, clueless board who look like they've managed one questionable, highly expensive signing despite knowing VVD was off weeks ago, missing out on our prime targets, leaking to the press various names to get our hopes up, and failing to land any of them. Plus a team bereft of confidence that can't score. I normally lean more towards the happy clappers, but things really do look bleak. Please saints / Les, prove me wrong!!!
-
Possibly not, but we'll probably be playing them next season ...

Guys on bt saying it was a definite pen, would be a foul anywhere else on the pitch. Not seen it so don't know if they're accurate or not? Any ideas on what the problem with Bertrand is? Could ill afford to be without him against Brighton. General view on bt is that we're very much on top. But that sounds familiar, and with only one goal to show for it I'm sure there will be some defensive substitutions to hand over the initiative ...
-
I know! Just a bit of banter!!
-
No boycott, just massive apathy. Don't know any season ticket holders that have bought a ticket. Maybe (he hopes) this will get the message to the board that we've had enough?
-
No offence, but if you place bets based on the **** that gets said on here you deserve to lose your money!
-
Call me stupid if you like, but I'd give Redmond a go, see how he reacts to being dropped for a couple of games. I'd rest hoedt and romeu, and give boufal a run out. I might even give Forster a chance as well. Any ideas if hesketh is fit? Assuming not I'd go Forster Cedric Stephens Yoshida McQueen Peh lamina Redmond Davis © boufal Gabbi Subs McCarthy bednarek Bertrand jwp Romeu sims long Of course, that assumes we haven't signed dozens of new amazing players by then ...
-
Ok, I know it's not specifically saints related, but any football fan, especially anyone who's spent time listening to radio 5 will miss this true gentleman. In an era of prima Donna footballers he's a reminder of what once was truly the people's game. A great life, two great careers and a sad loss.
-
I will ... if he turns things around. While yesterday was very encouraging, ultimately it was one point (1 more than I expected) that leaves us in the relegation zone. We have seen encouraging performances against top clubs this season already (city, United, arsenal) which have gained us 2 points. What we have rarely seen is taking 3 points against teams we should easily be beating, and have been in winning positions. If we can beat Brighton and get at least a point at west brom I might begin to have some level of optimism that we can somehow survive. As it stands today I'm still of the opinion he's clueless, out of his depth, and leading us to the championship. If I was les reed I'd be on the phone to marco silva (or his agent) today, irrespective of yesterday's performance.
-
Ok, fair enough - thanks. Let's hope he does play, will be good to see if he really does have a future with us. And seeing as we'll be in the championship next season it's the right level to test him at!!
