Fantastic result. They are running out of games...

When you joined the forum you agreed to abide by the forum rules. There used to be an initiative on the old forum "play the ball not the man." It's something which would work really well in your case. Comment on the issue in the thread (Trottman) instead of taking the thread off topic by baiting Alpine. Seriously, what did you think your comment was going to achieve? You're the first to have a go when Alpine winds you up so why are you giving him an excuse?

Sigh. I'm sure the mods will have a different view.

Should we be offered a referendum on the EU?
hypochondriac replied to View From The Top's topic in The Lounge
So once again, just because the majority of the people want us to do something which some consider to be bad, that isn't a reason not to have a referendum. With regards to the EU, if accepting this and other hoops we must jump through to stay in the EU, then I would rather we were out of it. I would like to stay in but retain many of the rights that have been eroded. As someone has already mentioned, I want us to be in the position we were with Thatcher. I want a healthy relationship with Europe but I consider it wrong that we must subsidise smaller nations and that criminals can go to Europe to get our judgements overturned. -
I commented on something that Alpine said. You get personal and throw about insults even when Alpine has not even posted on this thread! It's called baiting and it's unnecessary and pathetic.

Well I can't see a scenario in the next ten years where it won't be one of Labour of Tory (or maybe Lib Dem.) If it is one of them that my original point stands. -

There is no chance we will ever get this in a referendum. IF we ever got a referendum (which I strongly doubt) then it will be worded in such a wa as to make it confusing at best and strongly favouring the pro lobby. -
St Will, can you not realise that by harping on and on about the same stuff you are as bad as alpine? Just leave it alone.

saintandy you are wrong, and no amount of politics lessons are going to convince me otherwise. Try to take on board the points that greg hill has made. He is clearly extremely knowledgeable on the subject. -

I wouldn't worry. It's not like we would be around to complain! -
NickG, keep posting these threads every week if needs be! Reading it makes me smile. Don't let people tell you otherwise.

I enjoyed the whore chant. Also liked "we only win 3-1"

Wet side right by the steps! Was a laugh, especially when the bloke behind me kept telling the steward to get off the yellow bit of the steps "Off the yellow 51!"

It's up for debate but I would say definitely not IMO.

I really dislike the implication that people who vote against this do not know anything about it. Labour should tell people the benefits and we should then be able to weigh it up against the negatives to make up our own minds. It's the same with the BNP debate, unite against facism didn't want the BNP appearing because they thought it would cause mass rioting. Bonnie Greer gave the British public more credit than that and I would like to think that we could give credit to the majority here should they bother to vote. Besides, democracy is about letting everyone have a voice, however idiotic you are and you can't just refuse to let people vote because you won't like the results. -

That's my exact point. The real reason they won't have one is because er they would lose and I would imagine by a substantial margin. Far better to do it on the quiet and sneak in through the back door. Even if the treaty was wonderful and for our benefit, labour promised to let us have our say and they have just blatently lied. It's scandalous.
