OP was thoughtful and well put as have been a good deal of other posts on this thread. FWIW the players confidence seemed to nosedive after Wembley last year and translated into a woeful end to the season. As is often the case this lack of confidence affects form and very often continues into the following season. This is no endorsement of Pellegrino by any means but this precedes his tenure and falls fairly and squarely into Puel's lap. Looking at our rise, the very best we probably could have expected was to win one of the domestic cups. We were never going to get in the ECL and didn't have the squad for an extended tilt at the Europa League. The EFL Cup was our big chance, but despite playing well enough to win we came up short. Cue dismal end to season and start to this. You only have to look back to Leicester's season's end in 2015 and start to the following one for a graphic illustration of how it can go the other way!

As you say, your view and yours alone. That said the new ownership is a significant change and we all know that change brings uncertainty. As such it's no surprise that some will feel threatened/uncertain while others will be more optimistic. In some ways on a football level it's not dissimilar to where we sit as country now, but I'll not go into that in case the 'snowflake' insults start flying about.

Don't want to patronise, but that's what happens in all aspects of life. Our model was never sustainable and I don't blindly accept anything. Football like a lot of things is cyclical. Liverpool dominate for years and then don't win a league title for ever, same with Man U pre-1993 but they'll never go down, unfortunately if we have a bad season our fall back is potential relegation which is where we are now.

Manager apart, who doesn't seem to be able to provide a settled lineup/pattern. Our squad is full of those who have punched above their weights for a good few years and simply don't have the mindset or mentality for a fight. EFL next year.
