Liverpool EFL Cup Semi First Leg Buildup
Kingsbridge Saint replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
I am expecting Puel to rotate for this one. And to take a cautious approach at home. -
Excessive rotation and negativity are killing Saints. And that's all down to Puel. He won't change. There is no future with him. He has to go.

From What I've Been Told Today....
Kingsbridge Saint replied to View From The Top's topic in The Saints
The change in tactics and consequent inability to score is down to the manager, not the players. Most of this squad have been around for a while and have played just fine. So don't give the players must share the blame rubbish. It's the players who are actually trying to do something about it. Good luck to them. The sooner we are shot of this chinless wonder and his team of yes men the better. -
We have come a long way in 6 years and the Board deserve a lot of time and some patience from us in return. They need to either back Puel with a vote of confidence or get rid of him. He has clearly lost the dressing room - VVD intimated as much about the style of play, and Hojberg has probably been asked to curb his progressive style of play, hence the show of dissent after the substitution. Can't imagine Fonte's happy after the not appearing in the Europa League either. I want Puel gone, but respect the Boards decision. The unrest is now at a level where they need to make a statement though. The football is appalling and the players we have are capable of so much better.
-
Glad to hear it. The sooner player power gets rid of this Goon the better. This is the bloke that attacks on the basis of whats going to happen when we lose the ball. To fail is acceptable but to repeatedly fail having never tried is inexcusable.
-
Puel will continue with his rotation policy as he is a stubborn old goat. Rotation policies are a recipe for failure as the team never gels. Knew we would lose when I saw the number of changes and then looked at the consistency in the Albion line up. Because he won't change, he must go. Appoint anyone that will select a consistent side and play attacking football, really don't give a toss who - must be hundreds out there. This dross can't continue.
-
Draw the most likely result. 0-0 I reckon. Thriller too. Might be a couple of corners. We will have lots of possession.
-
Until someone better comes along we probably need to stick with Puel, as he will keep us up easily enough, though it won't be much fun to watch. Top 6 are out of sight this season and with Liverpool in the LC semi European qualification looks doubtful. Which makes the EL attempt even more disappointing. We have waited a long long time for an opportunity to show our worth at that level and Puel's attitude to it was a disgrace, a borderline sackable failure on its own. I do wonder what his brief was from the club. I wish the Ranieri approach had been taken - sod the league until Christmas, just get out of the group. Very disappointed in our season so far.
-
Half that Spurs side turned out for England against Iceland. It's a national disgrace that they are able to let the country down so badly so often, but get selected again and again. We should have battered them, but our approach was too timid. Down to Puel. Kane, Dier, Alli, Walker and Rose - all overrated.
-
Out. Anyone who thinks he should stay lacks ambition or is easily pleased. If we were in the last 32 of the Europa League I would be inclined to be more forgiving. The football is dreadful as well. The only time when we look any good is when we go off his template.
-
Puels thinking is in a technical straightjacket. The UEFA coaching badge discourages crossing and encourages getting the ball into zones just outside the box around 20-25 yards out where statistically most goals are generated from. So we fluff about endlessly trying to work the ball into that zone, but don't have much of a plan when it gets there. Meanwhile, everyone (including the opposition) know a cross isn't coming, so it's easy to defend, and none of our midfielders bother with making runs into the box. Puel needs to mix things up a bit occasionally, but he is a stubborn old sod and that's why he has to go.
-
Still not forgiven Puel for the abject European failure. Going to take a lot more than a lucky punt from 'Sick Note Boufal' to put that right. Bet he's missing again Wednesday. A cold wet night in Stoke will play havoc with his cold/fractured perm. He'll be back in bed with a Lemsip again while dull Claude explains his 'small injury'. Nice 3 points but Thursday still hurts so bad, the comfort of mid table obscurity doesn't quite make up for it. And don't get me started on the style of football.

Saints 1 Hapoel Be'er Sheva 1 - Match & Meltdown Thread
Kingsbridge Saint replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
So the cautious approach proves too risky and fatal yet again. When will Puel grow a pair and let the midfield support the attack? Someone mentioned above five occasions they had spotted where Redmond could have delivered a telling pass but all the midfielders were 30 yards back up the pitch. A number of times the ball came out of the area and their defence was able to chase it down and recover the ball 10-20 yards outside the box down the middle. Where the hell are our midfielders? On the ****ing half way line, that's where. Puel out. I have had enough. Let someone else have a crack at Liverpool. Had enough of this style of football. -

100% agree. On his heels waiting for the ball to come to him. Schoolboy error. Amateur hour. Pathetic. -
So it's squeaky bum time until we open up a two goal lead. With our clinical record in front of goal this is going to be a very uncomfortable 90 minutes. Or 98 if the ref is the 'Milford' type.

Crystal Palace 3 Saints 0 - Meltdown Thread
Kingsbridge Saint replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
Well that was a shocker. Again. Is the first team the new second team? I am starting to lose track, given performances. JWP, Hojberg and Romeu cannot play together. Safety first rubbish all the time. Rubbish. -
First team, no messing about. Rest a few at Palace so we are ready for Hapoel. The two cup games are massive. We are safely mid table in the league and well positioned for a run after Christmas. Advancing to the knock out stages of the EL would be great, and there is no reason we can't get to the League Cup Final, and even win it. Don't bugger about Claude.

This one starts at 2:30am Monday morning here. It's not been chosen as an 'On Demand' game by Optus so I can't watch it recorded in the morning. So the choice is get up in the middle of the night or give it a miss. Nearly always do the former, but on this occasion, and repaying the clubs attitude on Thursday (when I did get up at 4am), this one is going into the long grass. I suspect it won't be a sell out at SMS for the same reason. It's not much fun under Puel at the moment. Hope I wake up to a 3-0 win and a revitalised season. Even then, if Puel doesn't follow it up with having a go at Arsenal in the cup, and playing the first team at home to Hapeol he can do one.

This is all very rational. But to be fair, if that was the plan, maybe the club should have warned the fans not to travel as they were planning to go off half cocked in the away games to save players for the Prem/limp over the line to qualify. The selection, tactics and performance tonight were an insult to those that travelled, and have alienated a large section of the fan base at home. Puel should be ashamed of himself. A journalist with some Kahunas needs to call him on his BS in the post match Pressers too - he gets away with murder spinning his positive comments when it's clear the bloke sends the team out to play possession based negative football and is a total coward when it comes to promoting attacking, risk taking, chance creating football. -

I think the midfielders have the ability to play attacking football. I think Redmond has the ability to take players on. I think Martina wants to run up the wing instead of cutting back all the time. I think Puel has told them not to. He needs to have a rethink. Its not working. -

Woeful. Hopefully will still get through with the required result at home against Happel, but the fans who went out there should be compensated. I feel short changed and it only cost me 2 hours sleep. -
Good point, unlike Hull City. That result still hurts a lot. Still need to make up for that one.
-
We have lots of shots but get very few on target. It's not just the forwards. They are all to blame. Wouldn't even trust Tadic to get a penalty on target at the moment. That all needs to change against Liverpool if we are to have any chance. If Liverpool get a shot on target they are likely to score given that Forster seems to have retired from shot stopping. I fear the worst.
-
Starting to have doubts. They shoot, they score - that's the way it seems at the moment.
-
Bringing Boufal on too late cost us the game. A second goal, or at least more attacking intent to push them back would have made a huge difference. I am not buying tiredness after Milan, when Boufal is lounging on the bench for over an hour. That will probably turn out to be our worst result of the season and was completely avoidable. We create loads of chances too - just struggle with putting them away. Midfield in general is very wasteful in front of goal.
