I would happily take schniederlin or Cork back, know the club, know the league and are good leaders. Norwood from t 'e blades would be a good fit. We are desperate for leadership in the middle, whether we say up or not.
-
Can't be arsed to watch this one. Will probably check out the team to see who has won the weekly shit player tombola to mysteriously get a starting berth. Hate Friday night football, which is a nuisance as there is more of it in the Championship.
-
Yes it was a bit of a lazy comparison between Luggy and Jones, long post. I liked Sturrock when he first arrived, we got some good results and played some good football. However, whatever he did in preseason completely baffled the squad. We were utterly hopeless up at Villa, and mates all said that day that we were getting relegated. He did win his last game thanks to a late penalty, but we were battered by Blackburn. It is a long time ago but felt like a game where we had 3 shots that all went in. He needed to go. With Jones, I was hopeful after the 2nd half at Anfield, but it turns out that it was because Liverpool are a bit shit lately. We showed nothing like that endeavour in any of his matches after the World Cup. He was hopeless, out of his depth in every way aside from having the right coaching badges. Worst Saints manager ever IMO.

You are being a bit MlG, I went for the year the season started, 2004 to 2005 and 2022 to 2023, just couldn't be arsed to type it every time. I also missed Kenton and Neilson from my list, no loss there! Can't remember Niemi being that bad, wasn't at Fratton, but I think the mismanagement from the top down has been just as bad in both seasons.
-
Last time Saints were relegated, they had accumulated a large squad of mediocre players as a result of trying to emulate the success of the £2 Million or less purchases of both Svensons and Anti Niemi. This season we seem to have tried unsuccessfully to repeat the success of Livramento. So how do the 2 squads compare ? Goalkeeper, 2004 -Niemi, Smith ,Blainey, Keller 2022 - Bazuna, McCarthy, Cabillero Niemi is, for me, the best ever Saint's keeper, so 2004 wins on this count, although this time we have far better cover. Right Back 2004, Dodd, Telfer, Cranie 2022 - KWP, Bree, AMN Dodd and Telfer had no legs by this stage, while Cranie showed great promise at that age, but proved to be a defender who matured early but didn't develop much further, so KWP wins this one. Left Back 2004 Le Saux, Bernard, Van Damme 2022, Perraud, Larios While Le Saux was a classy player, by this time his legs had completely gone, Bernard invented the term "Phoning in a performance" and Van Damme was better in the beer commercial. While Perraud is not the greatest, and when I saw Larios warming up at Bournemouth I thought he was the mascot 2022 wins this one. Centre Back 2004 Lundekvam, Higginbottom, Jackobsen, Davenport 2022 ABK, Salisu, DCC, Bednarek, Lyanco, The defensive strategy in 2004 must have been just hoping that Killer would recover from his injury. Claus is the only decent option here, but as we now know, he needed a strong partner. A fit pair of ABK and Salisu looked very promising, but hasn't happened often enough. The rest, all of whom have a ricket in them, are at least better than Jackobsen or Davenport. 2022 wins Midfield 2004 Oakley, Delap, Prutton, Folly, Redknapp, Quashie 2022 Lavia, JWP, Diallo, AMN, Oakley was a very good player, but injuries took their toll this season, Prutt's is a nice guy, but very average at PL level, Redknapp was good for 50 minutes and Quashie was a relegation specialist, he only failed in this at the Skates. Folly looked like a decent holding midfielder until Sturrock asked him to play box to box at Villa. Delap was a fantasy football dream player at Derby. With us he looked like the definition of a utility player, average in a number of different positions. JWP, although below par this year is still better than all those above and Lavia is the best young midfield talent we have had since Steve Williams. No real depth here and we really should have told Romeu that he would have to wait until January for his move due to the Lavia injury. 2022 wins again. Wide/Creative midfield 2004 - Mc Cann, A Svenson, Fernades, Griffiths 2022 - S Armstrong, Aribo, Orsic, Edozie, Djenepo, Sulemana, Walcott, Elyonousi, Alcarez Till I looked at the squad for 2004 I couldn't believe how week we were in this department. Anders was managed out by 'arry, maybe because he was nit with Willy McKay, or maybe because, as he went on to show for Sweden, he was a much better CM than the 2005 version of Jammie. Fabrice was never the same after being dropped for the Cup Final and Mc Cann was just awful. This year Stu has completely lost it, Edozie has still not made or scored a goal, Djenepo is still very random, likewise Sulemana. Aribo looked promising, but is soooo lazy that MLT looks like Nick Holmes by comparison. Theo has been ok for a month, Orisc is a mystery, how can someone bee so good for his country and in Europe, but not trouble Grimsby. Ely is ok at following instructions, but not at scoring or creating. Added to this criticism, most of these players prefer to cut in from the left. It is madness to have that number of squad players for the same spot. Alcarez looks like a player we should build the team around, great attacking instincts and for this reason 2022 wins, but in reality they are the worst 2 sets of creative players in Saints top flight history. Forwards 2004 - Phillips, Crouch, Ormeroyd, Camara, Best, Blackstock 2023 - A Armstrong, Adams, Mara, Onachu Hands down win for 2004 in this category, the only comparison I would make is that Che gets more goals than Brett, playing the same role. Managers 2004 - Sturrock, like NJ, out of his depth, Wigley, cheap, beat the Skates, Redknapp utter uninterested money grabing c@@@. 2022 - Ralph - lost the players in March 2022, NJ see Sturrock, Selles too defensive and often brings a knife to a gunfight. No winner in this category. The link seems to be an "innovative" recruitment strategy with glaring weaknesses being ignored. All very avoidable.
-
Put up a good fight for 44 minutes and a nice finish from Mara, but that's it really. HTH -14 points - 9 goal difference. Match day -13 points and -18 goal difference. If we don't beat Palace in the next home game, we will need snookers to stay up. I still worry that Selles will shoehorn Elyonousi somewhere. Last season was a tame 2.1 defeat to Palace, while the equivalent match day was the 6 0 loss to Chelsea, where Ralph decided to play a high line against Werner, and leave Mount unmarked because he is a smelly skate.
-
I know Selles likes to start with defensive wide men to delay conceding the first goal, but as Stu and Ely were both terrible last week so.... Baz KWP ABK/DCC Bednarek perraud Lavia AMN J WP Alcarez Sulemama Tall Paul Leaves us a bit open on the left , so Djenepo in for Sulemana if you want more cover. Sule and alcaraz to link up with Paul ,JWP to cross the ball high every time he gets the ball.
-
Glad to say that I couldn't get to see this one, as I was driving. I was just waiting for updates from my wife in the passenger seat. Less frustrating than actually watching it be all accounts. HTH same -13 points - 6 goal difference. Match day -12 points and -15 goal difference. Next up is Man City. I know we beat them with the worst PL manager ever in charge, but I can't see it happening, not even if Pep picks a team of 11 false 9's. Last season we drew 1 all with a KWP cracker. The equivalent match day was a 1-1 draw at Elland Road, thanks to a JWP free kick. Maybe Elyonousi will score the 4 goals that a player in his position should have scored after 30 games. If so, I predict Saints 4 City 6 !
-
I still hope our strikers might turn out OK. I was talking with my brother last week and we both agreed that if you replaced Paine and Sydenham with our current wide men, Man U would have won the 4 1 Ron Davis game one nil .
-
Well that was a big improvement, with a bit of fight in the last 15 minutes. HTH same -10 points -4 goal difference. Match day -12 points and -15 goal difference. Next up is a trip to the London Rent Free Stadium to play West Ham. We won 3-2 up there last time, but we also lost a vital relegation match up there under Hughes . The equivalent match day was a tame 2.1 home defeat to Watford. Fingers crossed and hold on tight !
-
Great comeback, the 3 subs all made an impact. Soft penalty, but a stupid challenge and there was contact. People wanting Selles to be more positive may be disappointed. Read an article about him where it said he went gung-ho in an early job and learned quickly that you need to concede less than you score. Stu slowed us down to much on the ball today, and Elyonousi was marking someone else instead of his man for the first goal. The international break will give us a chance to get one of the Cbs fit, but I fear that ABK will be out for weeks.
-
Off the remaining games, we have Spurs, Bournemouth, Palace and Fulham at home , who all play a solid block defence and hit on the break. Away from home we have West Ham, Newcastle, Forest and Brighton, who all play a solid block defence and hit on the break. We cannot beat teams who play a solid block defence and hit on the break. This leaves Man City and Liverpool at home, and Arsenal away as teams that may give us some space on the rare occasions that we have the ball. I would be astounded if we even get to 30 points.
-
Fuck Fuck Fuck .. that was horrible. Playing a defensive winger in a must win home game !!! We are well into massive negative number theory again . HTH same -10 points -4 goal difference. Match day -13 points and -16 goal difference. Next up is spurs at home, last year it was a 1-1 draw. If the PMU took bets on goal scorers over in France, I would be putting a load on Richarlson to get his first spurs goal. The equivalent matchday was a 2.1 defeat at home to Newcastle, so we only have goal difference to lose on that one. I struggle to pick a first choice 11 atm, so god knows what we will put out on Saturday.
-
Meanwhile Tella scores a hat trick for Burnley away at Hull. Top Spread sheeting Saints ! I can't believe we picked such a negative team against a side that is crap if they concede first! It will need a miracle after that to keep us up. And If we have to play Bree again, it will take a double miracle ! Bree Chatterly should be printed on his shirt.

I am on holiday ATM, so sorry if the format is not so good. Very enjoyable game on Sunday, shame we couldn't snatch the win. HTH same -7 points +1 goal difference. Match day -13 points and -18 goal difference. Last season we beat Brentford 4 1 , whilst the match day was the 4 nil, shape of things to come, shitshow at villa Park. Let's hope it is more of the former .
-
Not sure if it just a Saints thing. I watched an Arsenal game on French TV once, which didn't have a swear filter on the crowd Mike and you could hear this guy calling Ramsey an Fing C all game , up until he scored. We moved our Season tickets to the East stand because of the ridiculous abuse the West Stand were giving Paul Rideout. Bally used to get a lot of stick too. Would love the pair of them in thee team now!
-
Done some actual research after last night's battling win and there definitely seems to have been a game missed along the way . HTH was actually Everton at home H-2-H: -7 points +1 GD . Match Day: -11 points -16 GD Next up is Man United away, where we got a creditable 1 all draw last year. They are a different beast this Season, without the cry baby up front. Our best hope is if Rashford gets involved in solving the nurses pay dispute. Match day 26 was the 2 nil home win over Norwich .
-
Thanks for the fact check. I am quite lazy so I just continued from the original poster and then get the results off the club site. I will double check after tonight's defeat
-
Held off writing this until after the Grimsby game in case there was something positive to put in it. Well we don't need to worry about hope anymore as the team and the club is hopeless, almost to a man. Leeds away was pathetic, didn't lay a glove on them and yesterday we did the same at home to a league 2 side. H-2-H: -9 points 0 GD . Match Day: -13 points -17 GD This is getting so bad that I may need to study Large Negative Number Theory to be able to keep up with it. On to the next one, which I don't think I can even be bothered to look for a dodgy stream for. Last season we drew 2 all with Leicester, scoring 2 goals at home eh, remember that feeling. No me neither. The corresponding home game was a 2 nil home win over Norwich, our last win before the terrible run we are on started. In theory, after this one the head to head can't get much worse as we only took another 5 points all season.
-
Let's just forfit the rest of the season, take the 3 nil defeats and move on. Get ready for the Championship, and start of by laying off the marketing department. If I see one cheery email asking me to come to the Leicester game , I am more likely to get a ferry back from France just to smack them.

What the fuck are the handball rules these days ? Compare that one to the 2 West Ham ones that haven't been given lately, it makes no sense whatsoever. Shit attempt at a header, but his arm was not exactly in an unnatural position. Having said that, we are still shit, apart from Lavia. I would imagine he is regretting not having tall Paul on the bench now.
-
Same flat performance with a better press conference. Didn't do anything in the first half, bar the shot from Tall Paul. 2nd half got better, until the substitutions lost us the midfield. ELY was especially bad today, his pass completion stats must be single figures. We need to work out how to get Sulemana on the ball a lot more. At least we can relax now, that week of hope was quite stressful. Ps that goal was just awful
-
I can still remember his commentary for our home game against Everton on an icy pitch in 78 or 9 . Graham Baker scored one of his trademark volleys from a cleared corner "little Graham Baker ! ". I could be wrong, it may have been his debut against Blackpool. Great commentator, full of facts about the teams and the complete obosite of the commentator who did the Chelsea game last week.

Saturday was a breath of fresh air. So much to like about the way the team applied itself, and the confidence exuded by Ruben in the dugout. H-2-H: -8 points +1 GD . Wow a positive goal difference! Match Day: -10 points -14 GD . This weekend corresponds to the 2 nil home win over Everton, whilst we where still in the middle of the last good run under Ralph. The corresponding match at Elland Road was a 1 all draw, courtesy of another JWP free-kick. As someone famous was said, maybe it was Shelly in the sit-com, "It's the hope that kills you". Long may it continue.
