Southampton(1) 1-2 (3)Newcastle - League Cup Semi Final - Second Leg
redkeith replied to Chez's topic in The Saints
Turned my stream off. Absolutely dog shit. Playing 3 at the back doesn't suit us, and didn't suit us before, with Bednarek playing. Giving a championship full back his debut, while leaving the Mom from Sunday on the bench, and moving your best rb to Lb?? That is on a par with branfoot moving Le Tiss to left wing to accommodate Perry Groves. The man is a born again, Welsh mining fuckwitt. -
He has been free to talk to clubs outside of France about next season for the best part of a month. Maybe he didn't get the offers he was expecting. 6 months with us could be a way for him to get the move he thinks he deserves.
-
Aribo was running alongside the guy who scored their goal 25 yards out and just let him run. He was yards behind him when he scored . Lazy, lazy bastard. Should never play midfield again. Only good point from today was that the left side looked much better with a left back playing.
-
Bednarek couldn't get a game for Villa, so I think there could be a shortage of takers, but DCC and Orsic could get buyers if they do well.
-
Went to bed hoping for a striker, or a pacey inside forward. Instead we get right back cover, and maybe a new Lew Chatterly. Completely underwhelmed, especially if this leads to him trying 3 at the back again ! Feels a bit like Xmas in the Undertones song "What's with Terry ", " A Johnny 7 or a cuddly toy ? no ! Horned rimmed glasses, fit for a boy! "

We will get a lot of money, from the sale of KWP, ABK, Lavia, JWP and Alcarez, but most of the should probably be used to pay of the Covid debt. Salisu , Adams and Tella will also raise some cash , and Elyonousi will go on a free transfer. Lyancos agent thinks he can get a move to Brazil and Willy will be state pension age by then. Theo will retire. This will leave us with a squad of: - GK Bazunu, McCarthy RB Liveramento ( until he proves his fitness, hopefully), Payne LB Perraud, Larios CB DCC, Bednarek, Simeo, Stephens MF Diallo,Smallbone, Finnegan AMF Arribo, S Armstrong ,Pearce, Dibbling, Wing Djenepo, Orsic, Edozie, Orsic Forward Mara, A Armstrong, Ballard . There is the basis of a squad there, with a need for midfield reinforcements, a Goal keeper and of course, a Centre Forward. We will have parachute payments, but we will be lucky to sell 10,000 season tickets. Many people I know are no longer willing to fork out that amount of money when there have only been 3 or 4 decent home games a season since Koeman left 6 years ago! I can see it going as badly as last time, although you would hope they can do better than signing Denis Wise, Hjato and the other Willy McKay clients that we bought. The most important thing will be to get Payne, Pearce , Dibbling and Ballard involved, or else the Academy players will walk out.

Jimmy Jay Morgan not to sign a pro contract at club!

Just we you thought you couldn't feel any worse about Saints. -
A New dawn fades! That was completely shit, bar a 2 minutes spell in the 2nd half. Last year we beat Villa 1.0 with a first time shot from A Armstrong. This year he hit the keeper. Matchday 20 was a the 3 .1 loss at Wolves, so our comparative goal difference goes up by one, Yippie ! I'm sure that will set the jackpot off in one of Rasmus's spreadsheets. H-2-H: -11 points; -2 GD Match Day: -8 points; -10 GD Matchday 21 was a good 1. 1 draw at home to the champions Man City. The head to head against Brentford was a complete no show, like a trailer for this season and a 3 nil defeat. Someone is going to have fun next year trying to equate Blackburn with Newcastle to work the equivalent teams out !
-
I think the club manages to sell itself to players with the idea of "give us 2 good years and then we will sell you on to a CL club" . An extra years delay in their career is not going to attract the likes of ABK. Obviously Salisu being injured for a lot of his first season put a spanner in the works. Maybe we should have tried to extend him then. Once he had proved himself, that ship has sailed. I would still much rather have ABK and Salisu for 2 years than Hoedt for 5.

Well what do I know? Not much apparently. A great week with 3 fantastic, and deserved results. JWP and DCC were immense yesterday, and everyone put a shift in. The comparison now reads. Match Day: -8 points; -11 GD H-2-H: -8 points; 0 GD Next up is a tough match against Villa, who have won at Spurs and Brighton recently. Last year we beat them 1.0 with a first time shot from A Armstrong. Matchday 20 was a 3.1 loss at Wolves, with the only positive being the Ward Prowse rocket free kick.

That is a bollocks decision, Rushford was shielding the ball

Match Day 18: What a complete shit show! The Forest keeper could have played the 90 with his hands in his pockets ! Our 0-1 defeat by Forest leaves our comparisons as follows... Match Day: -8 points; -9 GD H-2-H: -11 points; -4 GD The equivalent match in 2004-2005 was a 5 -1 defeat at Tottenham so -1 point and -4 goal difference on that. Everton up next, by which time we will have been knocked out of both cups, so we will be able to "Concentrate on the League" . One of our worst away grounds to visit, both from a results point of view and an away section viewpoint as well. Last season we scored first, to a great A Armstrong finish, only to collapse in the 2nd half to a 3-1 defeat. Match day 19 last year was Brentford at home, a cracking 4 -1 win. I have to admit I don't see the likelihood of either a win or an Armstrong goal. Matchday 19 in our last relegation season was a 0 0 draw at home to Charlton.
-
I will keep it going for you, although I can't remember if we got a result when I filled in before. The comparison is soon bad this season! Almost makes you want to do a comparison with the last time we were relegated.
-
If we weren't looking at a winger who had had already scored 8 goals in the Championship, our scouting department would want shooting. The fact that we can get him for free makes it a no brainer.
-
I went to the Bournemouth and DCC impressed with his leadership, it was the first time I had heard a Centre half talking since Fonte left. Salisu is obviously not going to extend his contract, so needs to be sold ìn the next 2 windows. If he goes , we would need cover so I could see Bednarek coming back as cover, but I am not sure that he would have a good attitude.
-
If the guy who does the half time playlist is reading this , can I suggest Joy Divison - A New Dawn Fades. We are worse than we were under Ralph . Don’t know why we picked a Championship manager.
-
2 points from the last 5 games. I think that the chuckle brothers could be in trouble, especially as whichever manager wins the World Cup tomorrow will be looking for a new challenge!

What is the best goal you've ever seen live at a Saints game?
redkeith replied to tunit's topic in The Saints
Team goal, Channon against Liverpool. Solo goal, Steve Williams against Norwich, picked up a pass from Keegan on the half way line, beat five players and then curled it round the keeper. Total football goal, Danny Wallace against Liverpool. Left back Dennis crosses from left wing touchline, back post header from a centre back , Mark Wright for Wallaces overhead kick. Insane individual brilliance, MLT against Newcastle . -
Looks like they are paying fake fans to celebrate the world cup in Qatar. Looks like there could be a lot of Nepalese builders, earning a bit of extra cash and seeing a lot of games.
-
Watched this and Tella looked a step up from AA, although that is not much of a statement after yesterday. Diaz didn't lok great but it was hard to judge as Blackburn were clueless
-
It was even better than the Long moment, it felt like the only time we got in their half. Katalinic had a blinder

Saints 1-1 (p6-5) Sheffield Wednesday - Match Thread
redkeith replied to Picard's topic in The Saints
No updates on club website, no commentary, no streams. It is like being in the age of ceefax. 1 nil down to Wed's before we have even had a shot ffs -
Sandra's old man sold our best player to buy dross like quasie, camera, Bernard and his boy, who unfortunately only had 45 minutes in him. We would have been much better off keeping Beattie and playing Oakley, Svenson and Le Saux
-
Well, it has worked that way for the last 4 Prime Ministers !
-
I am guessing, but I think we may be the first team to come up with a negative XG. Other than the 2 CB s everyone was shite . Never got a grip in midfield, maybe Lyanco might have improved it, but I doubt it. No positive from that at all
