I did jury service about 3 years ago. Two cases, the first one slightly unsavoury, but not clear cut. I was foreman, found not guilty on a majority decision after some lengthy delberation. Second one was a fraud case brought up from P*rtsmouth - unanimously guilty with a very quick decision. Thoroughly rewarding experience and it was pleasing how everyone on both juries treated the whole process very seriously. Incidentally, on both juries about half of us were aged 40+.

My dear old dad trained as a master carpenter and used to work on the carriages of the Royal trains. His best tip (apart from "always keep your tool sharp" ) was "Measure twice, cut once".

Dates for the diary: December: Buy 'Arry a Christmas present. Something useful - "Soap-on-a-Rope" springs to mind. Mid-February: Spring house-hunting. Check out the bargains in Sandbanks. 18th February: Derby at home, should be quite a game. Half-time entertainment provided by JackFrost in one-man naked rugby match against the Stewards.

Warm or cold, never hot. Best as follows: lightly toasted, then buttered while warm, spread with peanut butter (smooth), then Branston pickle, top with thinly sliced cheddar cheese. Pop it under the grill for a few minutes - heaven! Elvis' favourite apparently (probably used a different pickle though).

Not really thought about it before, but I suppose the numbers add up: 126 kids coming through!

I hope they get an easy draw, through to the third round and a home draw against the skates.

Funny, I was at that match on the first day. They looked like they were going to rip England a new one and suddenly there was a couple of no balls and they seemed to ease up on us. Didn't think anything of it at the time.

Should be there, probably for the weekend. Family in Donny and a mate in Bradford, who'll be coming to the game. I'll be the big guy next to the mad axe murderer.

So does this mean they'll start paying the CVA debts and charities? Thought not.
