Saints vs Borussia Mönchengladbach - Match Thread
Fatboy40 replied to wessex saint's topic in The Saints
Highlight of the game?.. the Mönchengladbach fans jumping left and right at the end of it celebrating. And to think the Bundesliga has three weeks until it starts so they will only get better. We were bloody awful today. -
Maya, a big thank you to you for sticking with Saints, respect. Still rusty from your holiday, your first game back today in crazy heat, and you're still our best CB!

I'm 50 / 50 if this is a symptom of a poor defense overall or not having the right players back in the squad and Sparky tinkering? If we had Cedric back, plus Vestergaard from last night (who seemed to want to run the back three, trying to marshal them) and either Yoshi or Bednarek (playing how he did last season) then things would be a lot better. I'm going with attack needing to be sorted. Long is ****e so we're hoping that Austin and Gabbi stay fit with Galagher as a sub, we've no Plan B up front?

I'm looking forward to Mourinho reaching that point again where he gets bored / itchy feet and starts to implode, it's glorious to watch. Saints to finish 13th to 15th, everyone to be split on Hughes being the right man for the job.

Watching the video here again... https://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?57004-Sofiane-Boufal&p=2368160#post2368160 ... I can see all the traits that have annoyed me about him since he arrived... # Incredibly lightweight (the amount of times he gets taken out with the lightest of tackles... and then dives). # Isn't a team player, tries to do it all himself. ... we should have known from the start that a decent Premier League defense would chew him up and spit him out.

This is a thread that I don't want to lose myself in, however that's absolutely not a "Jew-hating trope", it's a comment on his involvement in geopolitics and markets. Soros is a master at this game, and he may well be a very nice person to know privately, however he's got his hands well and truly in this pie only for his own benefit... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Soros#1992_pound_short

Same here, zero interest in him.

Looks like managers are allowed... ... so... B - Bates M - McMenemy

I know I'm bleating on about non-league but there are players like this... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruno_Andrade_(Portuguese_footballer) https://www.getsurrey.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/raheem-sterling-grateful-tip-woking-10268238 ... who just don't get the breaks that some others do (remember Lambert's early career). I'd love to have the chance to compare Andrade to Boufal in a series of friendlies, I doubt he'd be no worse, and be a damned sight cheaper!
-
# The effort that they all put in. # The training facilities they have (close to zero for clubs like Thatcham Town). # How many of them are amateur / semi-professional, they get paid peanuts, and by playing they could potential wreck both their amateur football and professional day jobs through injury. # Somehow, many were still a more rounded package than poor old hard done by Sofiane. ... by any measure Boufal's been a **** poor signing.
-
I was at Wembley yesterday for both non league Vase and Trophy finals, and even watching football of that quality you can see how Boufal's not the complete package and is just a show pony. He's only 24, time is on his side, but if we're being honest with ourselves he'll never change his attitude / work ethic.
-
I'd love him to stay until the end of his career and get a testimonial, you made the right decision Yoshi!

The only available striker? Pull the other one This has been debated to death on here, we had money and so many options. Pellegrino and Reed both got us into a very dark place, had a circle jerk, and panic bought.
-
It was a terrible season, under a terrible manager, recruited by terrible directors who were children left alone in the sweet shop. Pellegrino was a total shock, I just can't understand how a manager of any sort could be so unbelievably incompetent. We could have employed a manager from the top of the Vanarama National who'd have been easily as good, and potentially better in keeping the players fitness levels up and understanding the value of a well timed sub. It was a very lucky escape, but what I take from this season is that Les Reed has now been found out, for the sacking of Puel + recruitment of Pellegrino + his arrogance in not accepting he was wrong.

I don't know if others have already commented on this but its his substitutions that make me happy (of course along with so much else, players taking yellows for the team in the past few games has been a breath of fresh air). Pellegrino was so amazingly inept at this side of the game, he really had no idea at all did he. It's been so good seeing subs being used to break up play again, to waste time tactically, not just a fresh set of legs. My worry right now is that Hughes and his back room boys may get a better offer elsewhere and not chose to stay at Saints at all!

I'm assuming that whilst Kat started trying to sell the club in 2016 she just left Reed in control to run it with the other directors? In a weirdly positive way, if Gao and Chen pull their finger out once the season ends and try and conduct a proper root cause analysis of why we had such a **** season, all the breadcrumbs lead back to Reed?
-
Jisheng Gao has just bought Southampton FC (or whatever the businesses corporate name is) to further his own international business interests, I suppose it could have been any club at the right price at the right time for him. The guy I'd be watching is Neil Chen... https://www.soccerex.com/events/soccerex-china-2018/the-studio/chinese-investment-in-global-sport ... who may well be the Chinese 'Nicola Cortese'.
-
So someone new for us to stalk and find out if he's on twitter (probably not as he's Chinese, so Weibo or something similar I suppose?) Also has the guy on the right in the photo shat himself or something?
-
Christ on a bike, Ji Sheng Gao is totally deluded allowing statements like that from his employees. He really has no clue whatsoever about what's going on does he, or he just doesn't give a ****, I can't fathom out which it is. All I know is it's going to get far worse before it gets better if this is his style of conducting business!
