This is now a global economy, should we feel any empathy with France, Germany etc just because they're geographically close? The internet's changed all that - its easy to trade with anyone, anywhere now - and the rest of the world don't care if we're a member of this dubious club or not. All the eastern european countries are joining for the free handouts - which we are paying for. I voted in 1975 (or whenever it was) to stay out. And would do so again - if given the chance!
