How did Hughes get on with Shaqiri at the end of his Stoke tenure? Curious if they had a falling out at all? I can remember seeing analysis of Shaqiri just walking around the pitch during matches.

I know what you mean. I think Stoke did want Rowett back in January but couldn't get it done & ended up with Lambert.

Rowett is a very good choice for down there. He's only just signed a new deal at Derby so I didn't think he'd be available.

Last season was so weird. Both of those scenarios were bizarre. We did what seemed like a 2 week season de-brief & then kept releasing stuff through the Telegraph saying things like: "The club haven't ruled out keeping Puel" even though we knew he was going to go. It was so strange.

Yeah, I just feel like we don't know the whole truth. Maybe he really is like a Sith Lord in the board room. Maybe he's not. Maybe they've just had a bad couple of windows but the next ones will be better. It's so difficult to balance up. I mean, Hughes' last set of transfers at Stoke weren't exactly stunning. Overall, I don't have an issue with us trying to keep VvD. The biggest issue that I have with us lately is our "January centre-back roulette" game we have played for the last couple of Winter windows.

With the recent Telegraph article saying that Cedric (& Bertrand) might be allowed to move if we get a big enough offer for him, I was curious what people think he's worth? Is Pereira @ £25m a good benchmark?
