Looking at other teams around us (especially the 3 promoted sides) it strikes me that you just have to be competent this season. That's pretty much it. Brighton / Hudds / Newcastle -- Nothing particularly special, just solid, organised & able to grind out a win here & there.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the price is guessed early on. VvD's fee started at around £35m last summer and kept going up.

Yeah, can't imagine there are too many examples of a manager doing a terrible job & then letting him sign a £20m striker. (& who was clearly his signing too).

I doubt anybody is going to sign him from us in the summer, so will have to support him next season. He (in theory) has the attributes to do well in the championship.
