Isn't this thread about Nigels appointment? nothing to do with summer transfers is it?
-
Yeah you can dress it up anyway you like people like to say "I told you so" and that's what thread bumps are all about.....even if you want to claim they they serve a higher purpose.

Bantr.tv - 'Why The Saints Will Struggle In The Premier League'
doddisalegend replied to wireframebox's topic in The Saints
Strange article..... -
Which in fairness they are....If we'd been relegated rather than promoted this season the other half of the thread would have been on hear saying "see we told you Adkins wasn't up to it" People bump these threads to say "I told you so" and then someone always dresses it up as a learning exercise for the Ignorant..... Hindsight is a wonderful thing (and before you say it other than than my shameful dig at SRL, I took a wait and see attitude to Nigel on this thread)

How many youth players will break into the side next season?
doddisalegend replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Saints
That's what I thought. The way the bbc article worded it though (IMO) gave the impression that it was on the cards for next season Southampton boss Nigel Adkins says he wants a youthful side to consolidate themselves in the Premier League. Adkins wants to fill his newly-promoted team with young talent from the club's own academy. -
Just seen this article on the BCC http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17910274 Southampton boss Nigel Adkins says he wants a youthful side to consolidate themselves in the Premier League. Adkins wants to fill his newly-promoted team with young talent from the club's own academy. "We endeavour to get 50% of our home-grown players through to the first team," Adkins told BBC Radio Solent. "It's about a spirit that we've got, a Southampton way. We've got a good environment to improve, to learn, to work hard and to develop." He added: "The object is to get them through, we've got to make sure there's a pathway for them. That's the vision that we've got, we've got to keep driving on." Do people think we are planning to have 50% of next season 1st team as academy talent? I know NC has talked about a team built around our own youth products in time but this article seems to suggest this going to happen from next season which I really can't see happening.... IMO I think the jurno has got a bit confused with our long and short term objectives.

Last seasons promoted sides summer transfers and spending
doddisalegend replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Saints
I suppose it depends on how much of a part these signings actually played ...for example I see QPR signed a guy called Jason Puncheon on loan who didn't actual play as far as I know. Swansea seemed to have signed 3 new keepers ...which seems rather excessive. -
And so it begins...I wondered how long before all the old threads started rearing their heads........I reckon this will be the first of many

By having a ST (which doesn't mean non ST couldn't have been ever-present) but the article seems to suggest that the critera is a ST.

Last seasons promoted sides summer transfers and spending

£14.5 million apparently. With Swansea spending half a million and Norwich another 5 million in January -
Last seasons promoted sides summer transfers and spending

Came across this website and thought it made interesting reading. It gives all last summer's PL transfers with fees http://www.betinf.com/england_transfer.htm Of the three clubs that were promoted last season there summer transfer activity looked like this Norwich City € 10m Spanish defender Daniel Ayala from Liverpool for a fee of 0.9m; Defender Kyle Naughton on loan from Tottenham; Forward Anthony Pilkington from Huddersfield for a fee of 2.3m; Midfielder Bradley Johnson on a free transfer from Leeds; Midfielder Elliott Bennett from Brighton for a fee of 1.7m; Forward James Vaughan from Everton for a fee of 2.3m; Belgian defender Ritchie de Laet on loan from Manchester United; Wales forward Steve Morison from Millwall for a fee of 2.8m. QPR € 10.3m Defender Anton Ferdinand from Sunderland for a fee of 1.2m; Midfielder Jason Puncheon on loan from Southampton; Midfielder Shaun Wright-Phillips from Manchester City for a fee of 4.5m; Senegalese defender Armand Traore from Arsenal for a fee of 1.4m; Midfielder Joey Barton on a free transfer from Newcastle; Defender Luke Young from Aston Villa for a fee of 1.2m; Irish goalkeeper Brian Murphy on a free transfer from Ipswich; Brazilian defender Bruno Perone from Tombense; Forward D. J. Campbell from Blackpool for a fee of 2m; Welsh defender Danny Gabbidon on a free transfer from West Ham; Forward Jay Bothroyd on a free transfer from Cardiff; Midfielder Kieron Dyer on a free transfer from West Ham. Swansea City € 12.1m Greek defender Vangelis Moras on a free transfer from Bologna; French defender Darnel Situ from Lens for a fee of 0.3m; Argentinean defender Fede Bessone on a free transfer from Leeds; German goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel on a free transfer from Red Bull Salzburg; Algerian defender Rafik Halliche on loan from Fulham; Dutch goalkeeper Michel Vorm from Utrecht for a fee of 1.7m; Midfielder Wayne Routledge from Newcastle for a fee of 3.3m; Forward Leroy Lita from Middlesbrough for a fee of 2m; Portuguese goalkeeper Jose Moreira from Benfica for a fee of 0.9m; Forward Danny Graham from Watford for a fee of 3.9m; Defender Steven Caulker on loan from Tottenham. Might give us some insight in to what sort of money a new side might be looking to spend (10-12 million) and how many new faces we might have to bring in. Quite a few lower league players rather than established PL players (SWP and Joey Barton aside) in those lists. -
Plastic Fans (Don't you just hate them?)
doddisalegend replied to Friday's Legacy's topic in The Saints
I think even a simpleton can see whats happened there...A few southampton yoof came across a Arsenal fan and mugged him for his phone then took it to the match......... -
Leeds at home. 1st game of the season wasn't expecting to much, thought a draw would be ok for a 1st game in a new league, but we tore them apart.....
-
Oh I hope not I'd hate St Mary's to be called something s hit like the "King power stadium" or the "Sports Direct Arena"....
-
this guy? was he the one giving fox the run around?? Thought Gael Bigirimana looked pretty useful. Hell even that kid they brought back from Nueneton gave a decent account of himself when he came on late in the game
-
I thought the Coventry fans were excellent. Even above the wall of noise that we were creating you could still hear them singing and supporting thier team from the Chapel end. I thought some of their youngsters looked pretty decent...hopefully they can get in a couple of old pros to mix with their kids and have a really good season in league 1 next year. Ideally beating pompey twice on the way to promotion.
-
I'd love to but we aren't playing any for 4 months:(
-
Changing managers never did us much good. I'd love Nigel to stay for years and be our Ferguson with a team that evolves slowly with him. Next year might be tough though the fans and players have got used to winning and I'm willing to bet the gripping will start if we lose a few on the trot. NC wouldn't be the first chairmen to make a change if he can see his PL jackpot cash slipping away either.
-
Nothing to to worry about according to Nigel he is here for as long as we'll have him....HTBH even if we get relegated next season I'd rather keep Nigel than look elsewhere

The joys of hindsight........It turned out to be a great day so I'm happy...........but would I have been unhappy if Leicester had done us a favour....not in the slightest
