Yes, I've had the same thought but he will have vast experience and Premiership know-how and he is still sharp in front of goal, and still quicker than anyone we've got now--so I would go for him, happily and anyway Yoshi is doing a great job and Jack is one of our own so let VVD go, we'll be better off
-
Perfect summary. To be avoided at all costs, even at no cost
-
Can't understand how we have been taken for a ride by the club, I reckon we've never had it so good. But the players do seem to be a bunch of mercenaries, they and their agents are the problem, the club seem to be the victim. It's so demoralising I'm not surprised if support wilts, especially with 8 of the last 11 games we haven't scored
-
No. It's tempting to take the money and get rid of the problem BUT we can still get the money at a time of our choosing and when we have time to buy who we need, there is no time now. ALSO if we do back down and sell after saying we won't every player will know for ever that we are there for the taking and they only have to make a fuss and they will get their way. This is a watershed moment for the club. Keep the fellow to contract and sell at the right price and time of our choosing, for other clubs and our own players to see we have principles and a backbone to support them.

We've sold Pele and Mane who are the best goal makers and goal scorers of the last several years and then when we don't score goals, we sack the manager. Now we still can't score, the next manager must be hoping for a sensible signing in the last window week, or he will get the chop as well. Bring in a goal poacher, pleeeeeeeeeeeese

Lots of players get such an inflated view of themselves and their worth-not only VVD- that they think they are bigger than their club. Its happenend to Saints too often. If we are now asserting the club as bigger than any player--cherrs, and well done Les, Ralph and whoever. But £50m + Ox would be hard to refuse and I reckon most fans would take that gladly and still say well done Les and Ralph.

Kat was there y'day, that's a good sign

i hope Hoot comes and does well, if so it is a great sign that we are adding to our squad and using the summer to strengthen not weaken. This has taken many awful summers but the day seems to have arrived. My only worry is that Young Jack Stephens will suffer a setback and maybe Yoshi as well. They have been terrific in difficult times, hope they are truly professional and not quitters cos we still need them.
-
We've been stronger without Fonte who was on the slide, it was VVD we missed, Yoshi and JackS did a great job but no one in the whole Premier league would fully cover for Van Dyke
-
If it is true that we are the 0-0 specialists, why is there so much demand on this forum saying we need a new gk, that Yoshi full of mistakes and that Jack Stephens is not yet ready?
-
If we sell for under £90m we've been taken for mugs as with Mane. Also the market has blown bigtime, wasn't Pogba £90m a year ago? That makes 90 realistic for VVD but I actually hope we keep him to his contract, otherwise we are just encouraging unprofessional conduct--and having to eat our 'not for sale' words again.

What's happened to Fonte?
-
Is Fonte likely to play?

We can always hope that JWP will actually be what we hoped others would be---a loyal one club man, we are his home team amd I hope he gets the support he needs and deserves instead of ridiculous criticism from people who call themselves fans.
-
It was Chester City and they also went into administarion and were suspended. Incidentally he went from us to Derby and then to---guess who---Liverpool.
-
Last saw him at a Yeovil Town match, he was managing a side in Lg2 and they were bottom and lost their place in the League, but can't remember which team it was---about 5 years ago.
-
It doesn't need the press to tell us, he is a moaning minnie to all his team mates every match. I was pleased to see young Jack Stephens have a go at him after he had one of his strops. Loss of Tadic woulod help team spirit imo
-
If VVD stays and gets over his stop and commits for a year, he is the natural captain and it would be a mistake to take it off him
-
JWP is bound to be captain in due course, first of us, later of England but maybe Yoshida should come first, he was captain in the warm up on Wednesday I think but there were so many substitutions it was difficult to tell.
-
It depresses me to think we still have Tadic as our invetnive play maker, no wonder we have been short of goals. I am usually optimistic but am anxious about this season, its going to be a survival fight I fear.
-
Morgan is often quoted but he is not a good example for VVD -or anyone else--because Morgan's career ground to a halt and has never recovered. His Southampton days were his onlyu good days
-
Don't reckon they chose Le Tiss best goal, how about the Newcastle home match goal?
-
He improved with every match and deserves his chance, how else can we bring on the young ones?
-
Selling now after this long drama would send all the wrong messages--to the rest of the players, to every other club that we are a push over and to the fans that we out cash before success, Les is trying to stem the flow, deserves our support

What is the point of signing someone to keepJack Stephens on the bench, I want to see him in every match possible
