Good post. The government has kept this simple, and that's one of the reasons it's worked so efficiently. Faffing about with work related criteria and/or ID would have made it less efficient and divisive. The government have got a lot wrong, but they've got this right.

Sims is the one that I think really had something. That run and ball against Liverpool was quality. Les Reed rated Sims and thought he was going to do really well. Without the players you mention being in his way, and the managerial changes, perhaps things would have worked out differently. I can't help but think though that he'd have had more of a chance of he'd had a season or two on loan in the championship rather than sitting around the club not playing.

Yep, he got whacked by someone and came off. Whether he had a bit of fear from that I don't know, but from that to Crawley Town in 5 or 6 years and barely playing a game in teh meantime is a shame.

Yep, him and Sims had something but they haven't kicked on. I don't think we've handled them brilliantly though - the policy of not loaning out but not giving opportunities means that players aren't developing, and if they ain't developing, they eventually go backwards. Hesketh is better than a loan at Crawley at 25 years of age.

If you need to ask what a captain does and assume that people think that it involves lots of shouting, you plainly don't understand the role of a captain. On a computer screen you can't see the significance, but on a real footy pitch, it's very important.

It is simple, and I won't take this thread off topic talking about it. JWP plays to his role in that system. JWP is the topic.

You complain about hyperbole but you twist "playing himself into a big move" into "Deserving of a massive move". Let's see what happens in the summer, but I say he's put himself into the shop window for a big move. I could see him in much better teams than ours where he'd do well. "best in the world at free kicks". I say I don't see anyone better right bow. If you say it's not JWP at the moment, who is? I'm with you on his captaincy skills. All I see is a bloke who claps a bit. I'm also with you on the killer ball and the way he keeps the ball alive simply. I don't put that down to a lack of ability though. Have a look and tell me what runs he's not picking out. There aren't any. Moreover, I think it's Ralph's coaching - keep it simple, look for an opening, pass back, repeat. He's doing his job in a very simple system.

Good post, as was the post from S-Clarke you replied to. I also couldn't see the fuss about Prowse for ages. Not fast enough to play wide, not skilful enough as a 10, not strong enough as a CM. Over the last 18 months - 2 years he's become a superb CM player. As you say, his work rate is phenomenal and my criticism is that he rarely plays the killer ball. I think he has it in his locker though, and whether it's confidence, the runs not being made, or being told to keep it simple I'm not sure. On the "best" at this or that point, I'm not sure who's better at free kicks out there at the moment. My instinct is that he's played himself into a big move this summer.

Yeah, that's my take on it. I hadn't heard of the Morocco situation, but that's what I've heard in other countries, and that's what a tough lockdown is. We had a summer holiday last year, aided by Rishi's eat out gift. I've been back in the office full time for ages, strolling out for a coffee and sarnie in the day, meeting a friend for a stroll, and a few other bits. Sure. Its not as I'd like it to be, but it's not house arrest.

Yep, agreed. We've had no curfew, no actual requirement to stay within x metres of our homes, no obligation to work from home, no enforcement of mask wearing/penalties for breach, and for a while in between, life felt relatively normal. It's been shit, but I find it staggering that out version of lockdown is apparently one of the toughest.

Thanks for the link. I have to say that surprises me, but research is research. Regardless, I'm in the "what's the point of rolling out the vaccine if life can't go on" camp. I'm signed up for a couple of UK hols, IOW festival, and hoping to get back to some proper socialising, gigs etc. Normality needs to come back.

That just isn't true. Take France for example. They've had times where they were getting fined if they drove past the shop nearest their home to go somewhere else. They've had to stay very close to their homes. Other countries ditto. Our lockdown has perhaps felt the most severe as we've had to live it, but it really hasn't been the "strictest lockdown of any country in the world".

There's a world of difference between temporary floating hospitals to deal with overflow, and your idea of shoving everyone with Covid onto boats. We're still getting 5000 + cases a day - christ knows where you'd want to put them all.
