Rickie Lambert - most expensive 3rd tier player of all time?
S-Clarke replied to SaintBobby's topic in The Saints
IMO for what he has to offer and what he has already offered...£1m is a snip for a player of his undoubted ability. He reminds me of a very good cross between Beattie and Rob Hulse... -
Murty, Jaidi, Hammond, Lambert, Wotton...have all captained successful teams....and that is our spine. Not bad at all! makes a difference when you inject that sort of mentality right through the team.
-
He's finished at Saints, the final nail was hammered in when a new striker who had been out for 2 years, was brought in - replacing him on the bench. The problem seems to be that no one wants to take him on, possibly because of his 8k p/w wages.
-
I don't actually mind the format, some of it is a bit cringe-worthy i must admit...but it's good having some live studio based content to cover the football league. ITV were the best at creating excellent snazy glamor shots in games, whilst actually managing to miss the action. I prefer the BBC's efforts so far.
-
Seriously? Whos moaning other than you at the moment? He's made a completely valid point and - and i'm sure you'll be very worried if we do loose him as well. With loans it's always a risk to carry and i'd also prefer not to have a team full of them. I'm not sure why you keep responding to apline's post with these sort of replies.

completely agree with alps on this one. This club has been prone to an ''oh, it can wait'' attitude for too long now. I'd be surprised if Pard's hasn't started exploring the possibility of a perm. for Trotts already. I'd hate to loose him, as we've built our defensive play around him - for set plays anyway. Pard's has made him the main header of the ball.
-
Wouldn't say we're firmly entrenched. 4 weeks ago we were 12 points off safety - now just 5, which should be cleared within the next few weeks.
-
I'm pretty sure that if we offer what they find acceptable, they'll sell. They're in a position where all their players now have a price - 700k - 1m is a reasonable range for Trotts IMO. i really really hope we sign him up on a 5 year deal, he can climb the leagues with us.
-
That finish was real class - his first chance too, not a bad ratio! One of the things that i've noticed in this league is how slow players minds are. If you can get someone like Connolly fit and confident, his awareness and footballing brain will be enough to fool most opposition.
-
He's not just quick - he's direct and very strong, which is rare for out and out wingers these days. I've not actually seen him yet (going by the commentators descriptions/other fans ratings) - but at the moment he sounds like the perfect impact sub. Pard's said it was an initial 1 month loan to have a look....i reckon that'll be extended.
-
They've got big darren powell at the heart of their defense! so let's get in there with a few weak tackles, and he'll be off
-
Not sure but Leeds made a damn good fist of it - despite starting on -15 a couple of years ago, they would have finished 2nd if not for the deduction (finished 3rd in the end i think) At the end of the day, a few of our players are too good for this level - and if they can maintain their form, we'll win most games.
-
Who's slated lambert??? can't say i've seen anyone....
-
PNE are close to admin (their chairman said that when they sold St Ledger) - if we offer them the £££ they will say yes. I'd bet Trotts would be keen too.
-
nope he has made an impact on our defensive side though - clear to see. but the whole team has knuckled down and pard's has found a formation that works at the moment.
-
Wilkins was with us before the start of the season.
-
Should be a decent game, but if we play at our best we'll win again comfortably. What I've seen over the last few weeks, and even v Bristol rovers to a certain extent - is that when we attack with power and pace and use the ball intelligently...teams at this level just cannot handle us at all. Some of our players ''minds'' are worthy of a higher level, too quick for many opponents at L1 level.
-
Maybe not quite the best ''squad'' as a whole yet, as i think Leeds have got a v strong bench when all are fit - although we're close to that. We do have a brilliant starting 11 though, could even call it a L1 dream team seeing as we spent the summer grabbing the oppositions best players, which was fun.

Some comments from the Oldham fans (i love reading these...) ''Yup, they were a well organised side who played for each other and moved the ball well. If they hadn't had the deduction they would be right up there. They look like they have adapted to the league and I wouldn't be surprised to see them promoted.'' ''Yep, the best team I've seen us play this season by some way. I think they can still make the play offs. '' ''I was impressed by them they out fought, out thought and out passed us today.'' ''they did what they had to do to win at this level. i wouldnt say both sides were equal but we gifted them two goals. saying that, though, lambert could have had a hat-trick and they placed a sitter wide. if only we could have someone with the quality of lambert who did nothing wrong today
-
I wouldn't say it's just down to Wotton - but the part he plays is bloody vital. It allows Morgan and Hammond to push up a little bit and it gives us the scope and numbers in the middle to dominate and win the midfield battle. Once you've got that won - hand it over to your creative players to do the biz - and they're doing that right now!
-
I think it's safe to say we're now off and running. Pard's has found a formation that suits the players we have and he's getting the best out of the likes of Adam and Morgan. Oldham is a tough place to go for any team...so for us to do the job so comfortably (again) is brilliant. I don't think teams are playing ''that'' bad against us, it's just that we've been to good for them over the last few weeks. Footballs great again..!
