Having read that article, and noting Ramirez's praise of the way Fiorentina are playing at the moment, perhaps its time to speculate on their young Italian manager Vincenzo Montella, being our next boss. Just as worthwhile speculation as selling Gaston to them.

Tuscany ?

This might be the best chance of a trophy available to them, so I expect Benitez will be taking it seriously.

The Saints matchday experience now compared to 1962
Badger replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
He'd come charging out of the players entrance like that, a good 30 seconds after the last member of the team. That and Eric Martin's throwing the ball over to the corner flag, for a steward* to catch in a sack are outstanding memories of the pre-match warm up. No run about for twenty minutes then going back off to reappear as they do now, and no 'huddle'. Christ suggest a pre-match bloke cuddle to McGrath or Gabriel and they'd probably flatten you ! *steward, as someone has already pinted out would be in a lab coat, probably flat cap etc. -
Perhaps she walked off with the Andrex. or used to wipe his arse for him.

I thought MLT walked on water for a number of seasons.

Indeed. We were "fans" who attended matches, rather than customers well into the 1980's. -
Given - where does this come from ? (Apart from Glasgow Saint) Kjaar - ditto Tierney/shotton/naughton - who ?/ who ? & who ? Phillips - ? Presumably Matt Phillips, the perpetual link. For CB I really hope we can sign more of a 'monster' for that postion. Another Jaidi, or younger Ken Monkou MKII fit the bill perfectly. Does such a beast exist within our price range though ?

Yeh, happy birthday Gaston. I know some South American types are sensitive if we miss their birthday, so lets party. I'm opening another Old Speckled Hen in your honour.

Agree. West Ham v Mancs, will be a tv match as the media believe everyone wants to watch manU, Chel Town/Hereford v Everton for the romantics. Saints v Chelsea = holders, possibility of an 'upset' for the mediadarlings, and most of all the prospect of more humiliation heaped on Benitez. Again, if we lose so what ? No disgrace in losing to the European Champions, the league is more important. Rather go out this way than to a Stockport or Tranmere. But no b0ll0cks, a good cup run is good for morale and I want another cup final. Hate to ruin your theory but they might have a larger squad of players who are actually up the premiership standard to draw from though.

Cheltenham Town away would be nice and convenient.

Count me in. Grumpy old bastard, with honours.
-
You young bastards. Is there a defining song of my youth in the 1970's ? ( and it was a common scabby London bint in my time called Janet Stweet fackin' Pawter, by the way, who gave rise to the term "yoof" by her awful pronunciation that some of you now cling to). Will think about it. In hindsight, we were spoiled.

1970's. Norwich at home in particular, (1978) for the one where the Police Ofiicer went onto the pitch, and was informed by the announcer to leave the pitch as this was an organised display. -

Wasn't that just for Eric Martin ? -
Did it really take 145 posts to correct that mistake. And was it necessary to do so ? "Moight" and "plyaed well" , are you using the language of Chaucer's time here, or are these simple typing errors ?

Don't worry folks, Chelsea will be on a rich vein of form when we come to play them, as will Arsenal. Parity will be resumed.
-
Lets all pray, or woot, for a big freeze then.

Three matches in six days taking its toll. No surprise really. Poor reflection though that despite the summer spending we have few options available to us who can cut it at this level, therefore the side largely picks itself.

That was a god read. I'm too 'young' to know the 1962 season, but notice the programme cost of 21/2p in 1962. When I started going to matches in 1969 it had risen to a whole 1/- (shilling).Bastards. The matchday then was a far better and more exciting experience than the current conveyor belt of sanitised bland services on offer. -
Is this the same shirt as below ? I'm not sure it is as the above photo appears to have a collar. I only recall us wearing this shirt once, at Arsenal away (1989/90 season), and it was never on sale.
-
I know that one, David. Is it Princess Anne ?
-
Don't recall that one. Is that the 1976 shirt, but with three 'candy stripes' rather than two ? Only worn once in a match, but Austin Hayes was still wearing it in the team photo whilst everyone else had the two stripes on ?
