  1. Agree that at this critical stage of the season it is prudent to have a sub GK. I don't agree re Guly though. I have been one of his critics after some lacklustre displays, but you can't really lay the blame for yesterday's defeat on him. On the topics of subs though I was disappointed that we were short of a real attacking option there. Was SDR injured ? Ideally I would have liked an option of SDR or Barnard to join the attack as we pressed for a wiiner, let alone equaliser.

I saw Puncheon getting off the team bus yesterday at M/boro but, as others also suggest, I think he is surplus to requirements.
  3. Vectis provides the very reason that statistics as given by Glasgow_Saint, although intended to comfort us, just scare the sh!t out of me. No club bottom at Christmas has ever stayed up c2005. That was WBA sorted then wasn't it ?
  4. Good luck to Hearts in the final.Always been my preferred club up there and in fairness I liked Skacel when he was with Saints. He could not be held responsible for the pre-signing hype, nor the fact that a bufoon signed him to play him largely out of position.
  5. We are also staying in Durham, so will look out for a Saints shirt around there tomorrow niight.
  6. Wasn't that Mick Channon's debut ? And yes, at Orient in '78 - remember the wall collapsing - two-thirds of the crowd seemed to be Saints fans, and going tomorrow.
  7. M Phillips Rodriguez After that, a decent GK (Butland at Birm if they don't go up), and CB.
  8. Lets wait to see if we sell 4,000 before we start bleating about the allocation.
  9. Now obtained tickets - so two from Glos will be there, probably have a 90 mile advantage on most of you but still a long haul. Last visit to M/boro' was Jan 1982 when we went top. Bloody cold that day, at least this won't be played in arctic conditions.

  11. Come on chaps, this is all a bit rich coming from us as we were seen for many years after Lawrie left as a club that merely managed to survive and make up the numbers. Unfair. Fulham have to survive in the competition of more glamorous neighbours in the capital and all in all are pretty inoffensive.Although I can't stand the owner there, at least they have no delusions of their importance and right to be in the top flight, QPR for example just a grown up version of Brentford.Any club giving Mark Hughes a managerial job needs formal Football Authority 'sectioning' in my book. Everton, their 'worth' is that they share the same city as Liverpool, so have 'great witty scouse fans'.Everton are amongst the most detestable clubs in the league - 1984 and all that. I question the worth of Barnet and Macclesfield.Would anyone notice if they slipped out of the league ?
  12. I heard Kraftwerk record 'The Model' on the radio the other day. This was played at half time at Middlesboro' in 1982, we beat them and went top of the league that day. (I know because I was there - as Max Boyce used to say).
  13. Indeed. As a resident of Cheltenham I've often floated his name to Chelt fans who remember his time with them in the southern league. Not too popular here I'm afraid.
  14. Terry Paine also played fpr Hereford
  15. Not an all night candle lit vigil then ?
  16. John Sydenham ?
  17. I think he played for Gateshead but only briefly before they realised he was crap.
  18. We were introduced to slide rules in the early 1970's but I could not master them, nor could many others. Calculators were just creeping in though , and our Maths Dept realised that the slide rule did not have long to go. My father however was a wizard with the slide rule and could easily beat me armed with either a calculator or a log book to get to the (correct) answer. Logarithms , and the log book, have also been confined to history it seems. I asked young badger about this in his GCSE year and it was obvious that my Maths syllabus for 'O' level (in old money) had been drawn up at the time of the Ark. 'Sin' & 'Tan' ? What became of them ?
  19. There are several things I detest about the Premiership, but want to see Saints play - and win -at the highest level they can. Whilst another season in the NPC might be "fun", I suspect we would lose a few key players and next season might not be the ride we hope for. Several clubs who miss their opportunity fall away in subsequent seasons.
  20. My old Technical Drawing teacher at school would always insist on it as being called a "rule", which supports your view, and in Maths it was often (incorrectly) called either, except when it was a "slide rule". Tell that to kids today, they've no idea of either 'Technical Drawing' or slide rules.
  21. Good job it does not fall on the anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster then, otherwise it might have to be cancelled.
  22. kin ( as in fuh'kin 'ell)
  23. Yes, to a point. But the club were quick to try and dispel rumours re RL's potential abscence for any prolonged period after Blackpool.
  24. Exactly what I was fearing. The 'silence' on this does not bode well.
  25. I don't think I have missed any releases on this, but was is the latest on his injury, and how long is he expected to be out ?
